How times change. I remember agreeing with both of you that Snyder’s Watchmen ending was better than Moore’s. Comic book squid would have been so cheesy on film. Until I saw it in the Watchmen HBO series and it was literally bigger than life. I was in awe of how they portrayed it.

Completely agree with you, I really enjoy both now.  The mini-series vastly exceeded my own expectations.  And the way they played the monster Squid (and little squids) played perfectly.  I only wish there was more... No 2nd season as of this time.  I guess Damon is not interested :(

Detective Comics #1000 (gold foil variant) s/s Marv Wolfman, Denny O'Neil, Kelley Jones, Tom King, Doug Moench, etc---going to load this with no less than 10+ signatures, possibly more. - $295

Print run was considerably smaller than the other variant covers----going to really try to make this worth your while.  The last gold foil variant that I did had a multitude of 9.6 in there as well, so when these come back from grading, I can offer 9.6 copies at a bit of a discount if you want to switch out. I see a multitude of Batman creators past and present at several shows, my goal with this book is to stack it!

  3. Saw Shazam this weekend. Overall really enjoyed this movie. Different from any modern DC movie so far. Yet same level of quality as Wonder Woman and Aquaman, for completely different reasons, of course. The comedy was there, the heart was there, the action was well done. As many predicted the movie has allot of 'Big' but with a superhero feel to it, and in some ways its even more than that.

    Positives:

-Refreshingly light hearted, at times (while still demonstrating the serious impacts of 'super-powered' actions / inaction)

-Not all the comedic moments are in the trailer (there's some additional laughs you haven't seen yet)

-Lots of fun Easter eggs tie-ing to the rest of the DCU

-Fun for adults and kids...though you might need to shield your kid's eyes in a few scenes (the board room raises the stakes & warrants hands over the eyes for those under 10)

-(Positive just for me) I'm a South Jersey kid, so I loved seeing Philly as a backdrop for a major comic film (though I've read this was also filmed in Canada)

-Strong family theme (and a couple heart wrenching moments) give this movie more heart than previous DC movies

I can't think of any major drawbacks, but I'd say the director was trying to strike a challenging balance between minor elements of horror suspense (monsters) and a youthful comedy. I'm sure Sandberg couldn't help himself w/ some of the minor horror elements, given his expertise (and he does that well). But, at times you can be left wondering is this going to take a darker turn...or stay light and that makes some of the transitions a bit jarring.  Really fun movie...definitely predict a strong box office performance.

  4. I'd have to agree w/ Bosco...Derrickson...and Morgan...

I just re-watched the 'ultimate' cut in 4K this week, and have to say its one of my 'ultimate' favorite comic genre movies.

    Great acting...costumes...cinematography...effects...

I know its probably blasphemy to say it, but for the purpose of translating to film, I enjoyed Zach Snyder's final act more than Alan Moore's.

My only issue w/ the Ultimate cut is the run-time, though there's so much goodness I don't what I would cut-out.

I believe its just under 4 hours...so I watched it over two nights instead of trying to plow through in one sitting.

Perhaps it could have done better in its original release if it was 2 movies (2hrs each)?

  5. From what I've read its the end of the "Dawn of the Arashikage" story-line.

If you look at the books from #246 on they even say part 1 of 5, part 2 of 5 etc.

GI Joe:ARAH will continue, as far as I'm aware, its simply the end of that story arc.

Following Tom Waltz on Twitter, the IDW editor, it appears that starting with 251 they are moving on with a "Special Missions" story arc.

This will be intended for each issue to focus on one character or a small group of 'Joes for the next five issues or so.

Hope this helps answer your questions.
