  1. Well, five years after I started working on my revival and continuation of Boy Comics, I'm excited to say that the first trade collection is now live on Kickstarter! Here's a look at the cover for the trade, which is also an homage to Jim Steranko's classic Captain America poster: As you can see, this collects issues #120-124 (aka The Crimebusters #1-5). The continuity picks up right where the original left off when it was cancelled with #119, with Chuck Chandler at Curtiss Tech. But I have added a supernatural tint to some of his adventures, plus I have brought in some other Golden Age public domain characters both from Boy Comics itself (like Yankee Longago) and from other publishers (such as Granny Gumshoe from Quality Comics). Anyway, I've loved making these, and I love Boy Comics (obivously! 😁) so I thought I'd share. Thanks for all the support through the years! Here's the link again if anyone is interested: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thecrimebusters/crimebusters-vol-1/
  2. It's here! Almost 5 years after I started working on the first issue of my first comic, The Crimebusters #1, I'm super excited to announce that the first trade collection, collecting The Crimebusters issues #1-5, is now live on Kickstarter! Besides having over 175 pages of action, I've also has the first three issues -- which were originally in black and white -- colored for the first time. Thank you all for your support throughout this adventure! I really appreciate it very much! Here's a look at the three covers: Here's the link to the Kickstarter again. Thank you all and I hope you enjoy it! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thecrimebusters/crimebusters-vol-1/
  3. Almost 5 years after I started working on my first comic, I'm super excited to say that the first trade collection of my series The Crimebusters is now live on Kickstarter. It collects The Crimebusters #1-5 in one volume, and I've also had the whole series colored -- issues #1-3 were originally in black and white -- so it's a new experience for readers. Besides writing the comic, I also drew the first four issues and still do some of the variant covers each issue. The cover for the regular version of the TPB is the cover I did for issue #2, but with new trade dress: The series, which is my ode to classic mystery adventure series like The Three Investigators and Scooby-Doo, also continues the continuity from the Crimebuster strip in the Golden Age series Boy Comics. So every issue I had a Boy Comics variant cover that continues the numbering. Here's the Boy Comics variant for the trade, which is an homage to Jim Steranko's classic Captain America poster: Thanks to everyone who has supported me here on the forums, I really appreciate it very much! Here's the link again for the Kickstarter if anyone is interested: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thecrimebusters/crimebusters-vol-1/
  4. It's been nearly five years now since I began working on my first comic, The Crimebusters #1, and 4 1/2 years since it came out on Kickstarter. So it's not overstating it when I say it's all led up to this: The Crimebusters volume 1, which collects The Crimebusters #1-5 in one volume for the first time, is coming to Kickstarter on September 13! Additionally, I am currently in the process of having both issues #2 and #3 colored, meaning that the trade will present all five issues in color for the first time! So even if you've already read the first three issues, which were originally in black and white, the trade will provide a whole new reading experience. I'm really jazzed to get this trade out to everyone, and to have it in my own collection! Thank you all for the support over the years, and I hope you dig it! Here's the link to the re-paunch page - just click the "Notify me on launch" button to make sure you don't miss anything. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thecrimebusters/crimebusters-vol-1/ As always, there will variant covers in addition to the regular version. I haven't yet finished the Boy Comics variant, but here's a look at the regular edition and the cover for the Trixie Trouble Mysteries variant. See you there!!
  5. I'm going to be in the Ronkonkoma, Long Island area next week and I see there are a number of comic shops in the region. Anyone know which might have the best dollar bins? I want to do some diving, hopefully at a place that has some 80s or earlier stuff and not just reams of over ordered moderns. Thanks for the recommendations!
  6. While I was watching this documentary, I told my wife, "the worst thing about this is the fact that now I'm going to have to listen to a bunch of 60 year old fanboys continue the same incredibly tedious Stan vs. Jack argument they've been having for the last half century."
  7. As a indie creator who self-publishes through Kickstarter, I'm in contact with a lot of other Kickstarter publishers, and I can say that the vast majority of comics being funded through Kickstarter are personal passion projects that aren't making a dime. What you're describing only applies to a small percentage of the comics on Kickstarter, mostly ones being published either by large established companies, or books in the T&A market. Yes, those people often put out 35 variants with nude and normal versions and super high end, high priced variants. Most projects don't, or only have a few of those options for the handful of backers who want them. That's the key to your question: this market only exists because the backers want it. Kickstarters are only funded if the buyers want it to. It will continue as long as that's what the backers want. If they didn't want it, the projects would fail. But there are dozens and dozens of great indie comics on Kickstarter that don't remotely resemble what you're describing. If you try scrolling past all the T&A you should see that.
  8. Hey everyone! We're less than 36 hours away from the end of the Kickstarter for my newest comic, the epic fantasy Quest #1, and we're thiiiiis close to funding. But we still need a little help getting over the line! Right now we're at 90% funded, with only $276 left to go to hit our funding goal. So if you think you might like some indie fantasy comic action, you can check it out here! Thank you for all the support! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thecrimebusters/quest-epic-fantasy-adventure?ref=bjwa9u
  9. Hello, comic book friends! I'm so excited today to announce that my new comic book Quest #1 is now LIVE on Kickstarter! I've been a huge fantasy fan for my whole life. Playing Dungeons & Dragons and reading their Endless Quest series of books as a child opened my imagination to new worlds of wonder. I would sit on the floor with my modules and play out whole campaigns by myself, creating stories of heroes and monsters, triumph and tragedy, before rolling the dice and starting it all over anew. Quest is the culmination of a lifetime of dreaming. I first began creating the characters, world, and story of Quest way back in the mid 90s, and over the years, I've returned to them again and again, working to one day tell their tale. And that day is today! In Quest #1, you'll meet a ragtag band of adventurers, thrown together by fate and charged with an impossible quest to save their world -- a quest they know almost nothing about. It's filled with action from page one, and as the story progresses, so too will our heroes, growing in strength and tempered by loss as they try to learn the secrets that drive their mission before time runs out! So gather your courage to the sticking point and join me for the start of an epic Quest! Because by supporting my comics and making my dreams a reality, YOU truly are the hero of this story! Thank you so much!! 🤗 https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thecrimebusters/quest-epic-fantasy-adventure?ref=bjwa9u
  10. I have Avengers #1-503 plus annuals. I really should probably get rid of the last 40 issues or so and end with the Kurt Busiek run though. I was going to say that's my longest run, but I realized it isn't. It is just barely longer than my run of Jughead, which is vol. 1 #84-352, vol. 2 #1-214, and vol. 3 #1-16, for 499 consecutive issues. But my longest run is actually Archie #156-713, which is 558 consecutive issues. I'm currently working my way back to #50, as I think it will be cost prohibitive to try and complete beyond that point.

I can't take credit for this one, but it is pretty good! There's a company up in Canada that used to be called Chapter House that re-branded themselves as Lev Gleason, and they are reviving all the old Lev Gleason characters, but in the same universe as Captain Canuck. They've put out a few things that I liked, but they've been hit with a lot of delays -- this issue was originally solicited back in the fall of 2021 as part of a series that never happened. I hope they follow through with the Crimebuster mimi-series teased in the FCBD issue, but we'll see if it ever comes out!
  12. Hello, comic friends! I just wanted to give an update for those of you who bought stuff from this thread. As you know, I was selling off part of my collection to raise money to make a new comic, the first issue of my new epic fantasy series Quest. I'm excited to say that Quest #1 is nearly done, and the pre-launch page is now live on Kickstarter! Without your purchases, I couldn't have made this new comic, so thank you! Here's a look at one of interior pages, just missing the lettering: And here are the covers -- some of the variant cover art wasn't cheap! So some of the money raised here went right to that. You can check out the pre-launch page here. Thanks again for buying my stuff, it's been a huge help in making this dream project a relaity!
  13. I already shared one of the homage covers I drew for the first issue my new comic book series Quest, but I wanted to share one more. Dungeons & Dragons is one of the big influences for Quest, so I wanted to do a D&D homage cover. This version isn't just a variant cover, though. I'm working with a dungeon master I know, and we're going to add 8 bonus pages of game supplement material so people who buy this version will be able to play the story from this issue in their own home game if they want. Here's the variant I drew, which is based on the cover for the 1982 module "The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth" by Erol Otus. I tweaked it by changing the ratio of the art firstly, then swapping in my characters and monster, and fiddling with the color scheme. The "CCG" on the cover is short for Crimebuster Comics Group. Nothing to do with slabbing! 😁 I'm hoping to bring the first issue to Kickstarter next month, though the pre-launch page is already live. Thanks for looking! 🤗
  14. Hey there, comic friends! I'm super excited to tell you that my new epic fantasy comic Quest is coming to Kickstarter next month, and the pre-launch page is currently live. This is an ongoing series inspired by Dungeons & Dragons and by classic swords and sorcery comics like Savage Sword of Conan. I've always been a huge fantasy fan, and it was fantasy that really got me into comics -- before I bought my first comic book, I was reading comics in the back of Dragon Magazine, so it's no wonder that Warlord and Conan the Barbarian were among the first comic books I bought. Quest is going to be full of dungeon crawls and weird monsters, and the world is populated with characters right out of D&D, so if you are into that sort of thing, I hope you'll consider giving Quest a try! I already have the inked artwork done for issue #2 and am actively working on #3 at the moment, so I'm really committed to this series! I also have a bunch of variant covers to share with you, including two I did myself. And the D&D module variant will also include 8 bonus pages of gaming supplements so you can bring the world of Quest to your own home game! I'll have more soon, including a free pdf you can download with the first 5 pages as a preview. For now, here's the Kickstarter pre-launch link again. I love making comics, so I'm very excited for this, and I appreciate your support! Thank you!
  15. Well, I sent The Crimebusters #5 to the printer on Monday, so I'm launching my next Kickstarter next Monday! I'm tired!! This one is a little different form the others, though, so hopefully it won't be as much work. I'm just doing a short, simple Kickstarter to print a new blank variant edition of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #1 so I can do sketch covers on it for fans of the series, or so they can draw their own covers, or commission someone else to do it. Since the art is all done and everything, this should be really simple, and the goal is very low too since I just need to cover printing and shipping costs and not the art costs. You can check it out here! My next new comic will hopefully be the first issue of my new ongoing epic fantasy series Quest. Once that is closer to being ready to launch, I'll do a whole journal entry about it with all the characters and variant covers and everything. Thanks again for all the support everyone!!
  16. Found this at a local shop. Low grade, but looks nice in mylar and I've been looking for one for a while to go with my Archie #50:
  17. Man, doing these Kickstarters is such a massive amount of soul crushing work! But, there's just one week left in the campaign for The Crimebusters #5, and making this comic a reality more than makes up for all the work! I'm really excited to say that we've hit our funding goal! And now we're close to unlocking the first stretch goal! My hope is that we can unlock a couple more after this as well, because I want to be able to give my backers as much stuff as possible to make it the most fun experience I can. 🤗 I also just finished the back cover, which is a big tease for the main mystery of the series going forward, so I wanted to share that. Thank you everyone for all the support, I appreciate it very much and I hope you dig the comic! Here's the link to the campaign one more time if you want to check it out. 🙂
  18. My latest effort to keep Boy Comics alive - my Boy Comics #124 variant for the newest issue of my series The Crimebusters, which continues the continuity of the Crimebuster strip where the original series left off in 1956. This one is obviously an homage to Gil Kane's classic cover for Rex the Wonder Dog #11, except I replaced Rex with Crimebuster's sidekick Squeeks the Monkey. I also turned the guy in the foreground into Crimebuster by changing his shirt into Crimebuster's hockey jersey.
  19. My new comic The Crimebusters #5, which I've shown artwork for before, is currently live on Kickstarter, but while I should be completely focused on that, I'm actually spending a lot of time working on a new epic fantasy series that's half 70's Conan and half Dungeons & Dragons. It's called Quest, and I am hoping to have at least the first issue out this year, and possibly more. I've got a really good artist doing the book, plus a really awesome variant cover I commissioned, but I'm doing some of the other variant covers myself for fun. Here's the 70s retro cover for issue #1 - every issue will have a 70s retro cover by me:
  20. So weird, I know I absolutely posted this back on Monday, but there's no sign of it. Apparently the boards just ate it. Anyway, I'm excited to let you all know that my newest comic The Crimebusters #5 is now live on Kickstarter! This is sort of the culmination of everything that's happened so fr, bringig together subplots and loose ends and tying up characters arcs while also setting the groundwork for the next batch of stories. Plus, it's the first issue that I haven't drawn myself, as new artist Mac Radwanski has taken over. So this is a really big one for me! I also have added some catch-up reward tiers where readers can get a full set of all 8 comics I've done so far, either the regular editions or the super-rare exclusive variant editions, so if you haven't had a chance to check them out yet, this is a good jumping on point. We launched back on Monday and have passed the halfway mark towards funding, so thank you to everyone for your support, I really appreciate it! I also wanted to let you know that I just added a couple add-ons some of you may or may not be interested in. They are on the pricey side, but it's two spots to be drawn into the next issue, issue #6 -- one as a hockey coach on a single page, and one as a murder victim who may be on a couple pages. These are both one of one add-ons, and they are again on the expensive side of things, but if you want to get murdered in a comic and have Chuck and Trixie solve the case, this is your chance! These are both add-ons only, so if you've already pledged you can adjust your pledge level to select it as an add-on. I did one of these before and it worked out pretty well. I have ended up making the person from the cameo into a recurring character, though that's been easier because the reward tier for the cameo was claimed by my father-in-law 😁 Here's the link again for The Crimebusters #5, and a look again at this issue's covers. Thanks!
  21. One time price drop! The full Doctor Strange run is now just $2250 shipped to the U.S. Or, if you don't need the #110, the rest of the run (#111, #113-183) is now $1000 shipped to the U.S. which I think is a pretty good deal!
