    Time running out
Here I am still working out my budget for this weekend, and wondering what I want signed.
Since Stan Lee will be the most expensive I have to shift around what books I want to bring due to my recent unemployment predicament.
But I finally got at least three books that are definitely headed for signing and pressing
    Amazing Spider-Man 9 - 1st Electro
Don't recall where I got this book, but I paid a price around a 2.5 to 3.0. I keep track of all my purchases in exel.
    Amazing Spider-Man 13 - 1st Mysterio
Bought this book at Jay & Silent Bob's Secret Stash at a 2.0 price.
    Iron Man - 1
Bought off E-Bay at a 6.5 to 7.0 price. I have issues 2 and 3 at CGC 8.5, both signed by Stan Lee, now I will have this one join his brothers.
I will be sending these out for pressing and let's see where they end up, wish me luck. I will be extremely anxious to get these back early so I will be fast tracking these three.
I have a few blank variants that I hope to get sketched. The other books I plan to bring (maybe, finances) are all new modern issues.
    Thanks for reading.

Issue 1 has the added signature of Chloe Grace Moretz, the actress who play Mindy McCready in Kick .

I have basically stop collecting new comics. I decided this with ASM 1 (2014). To put that money into older books that I want.
Here are just a few of my latest purchases of raw books. I do love raw books. Eventually I will have them CGC'd. But for now I want to enjoy them in their raw naked glory.

Every book I purchase I place in a 4mil mylar bag along with a 42mil acid free backing board. This way I can take them out of the box and admire the cover art work without worrying that they may bend.

Growing up I loved watching the old horror flicks, Dracula, Frankenstein and Wolfman. So it only made sense that I seek these characters in their respective book.

Last year at NYCBM I found and purchased Dracula #1 and got it signed by Neal Adams and graded - CGC SS 7.0. Earlier this year I bought Frankenstein #1 (PGX 9.6) as well as a raw copy just recently. I own Marvel Spotlight #2 (1st app Werewolf By Night)

Now I have all three of the horror genre classic.

Werewolf By Night #1 will also be in my hands soon.

Now I would love a copy of 1st app of Doctor Strange (Strange Tales #110) but it is too pricey in the grade that I want. So when I saw Doctor Strange #169, I jumped on it. Now it can accompany my D S #1 (1974)

I also bought Strange Tales # 88, nothing special about this issue other than the issue has my birth month and year (9-1961). Like a previous journal in which some of you have done so, I thought I would do the same.

    Also with my BD. of the books I want;

    Amazing Adventures 4

    Tales of Suspense 21

    Journey into Mystery 72

    Tales to Astonish 23

    Enjoy and happy hunting

Maybe Marvel should consider this as a new series
Reading your journals and your love of the New Mutants, I couldn't help but try and help you guys a bit. Like you really need it, but never-the-less if you haven't notice Comic Connect has the missing issues in raw form (1983 series) you guys need albeit not 9.8's maybe some pressing is all they need.
    Good Luck
    Just my two cents worth.

    More Sigs
Here are a few more books that I had signed.
These I met everyone who signed them. A little disappointed with Celebrity Authentics due to their rushing everyone through.
It was get on line place book on table, she signs' it, next! So it seem to me.
As for the comic artist and writers, very approachable and down to earth. Pretty cool.

    Steranko's are back
Hi to all, I know I'm late. But so too was my submission of these beauties which were sent out to DWC San Diego Comic Con, they came in just now.
Never-the-less I am totally exicited for their return and especially the grades.
I bought these issues a couple of years ago in raw form, now they are CGC SS.
    Thanks for reading

    Raw Gold
Earlier this year I walked into my LCS seeking silver age spideys. In the display were several X-Men, Incredible Hulk and my favorite Amazing Spider-Man.
The ASM on display I already have in my collection, nothing new there. The Hulk book was way too high for me to purchase. So I look at the X-Men books.
The X-Men books in the case were all somewhere in my opinion from VF- to NM. This copy being the NM copy.
Haggling with the store owner, he refuse to lower his price, citing the I had gotten the best of deals from him in the past. Inspecting this book I did not see any flaws, white pages, glossy bright flat cover, no creases and sharp corners. I really wanted this book. But he wouldn't budge much.
So I paid the near NM- 9.2 price. I guess-timated a NM+ 9.6 and made up my mind to send it to CGC.
Looking at Desert Wind's scheduled cons, I saw that Roy Thomas will be attending the San Diego Con. So I sent this one along with five others to DWC. They finally arrive today. I think with pressing it may get a 9.8. But first I think I will try to get Ayers to sign it too.
    The other signed books were
    X-Men 25 - CGC 7.0
    Avengers 57 - CGC 7.5
    Avengers 58 - CGC 9.0
    Conan 1 - CGC 5.5
    Conan 23 - CGC 8.5
Thanks for reading and happy hunting

    Who?....Warlock
I finally got all the issues of Him - Warlock that I have been seeking.
Looking through my collection for books I wanted to have graded, I came across these two books. Marvel Premiere # 1 and Warlock # 1. I got a little curious and wondered where he first appeared. A little bit of researching using Wikipedia, and Overstreet, I got my answer. So now I put these on my want list.
First I bought Fantastic Four # 66 and 67 from Comicconnect, and my last purchase was yesterday, where I got Thor # 165.
Now I might just get Marvel Premiere # 2 (his 5th app) just to full complete the set.
    Thanks for reading

    Recuperating
Glad it's over, I had a good time.
Along with having my books signed, graded and some for pressing, I made some purchases of silver age comics in raw form (see pic below). I did not send them out to get signed, pressed or graded because I want to enjoy these babies in their raw form for now. But I will be having them pressed and graded eventually. Having them not signed is no big deal.
I think I made a decent purchase, no more that a total of $200.00 for these four babies from four different vendors.
Hope you guys like my scan.

    Days gone by....

(Walking dead reference, being the night of the new episodes)While this is not my first NYCC or signings, it is my first signing at NYCC and let me tell you, I felt overwhelm.Previous years going to the con, I would spend the days walking around, enjoying all the exhibits and seeking back issues, mostly silver age spidey. Never thought about signing my books nor having them graded. I love raw books.Anyway, a funny thing happened. As I waited at Artist Alley at the CGC station for a rep to get my books witness, I saw this one guy prepping and filling out the CGC form. I asked a question pertaining to the procedure on getting my books signed. The guy prepping was very helpful in answering my question. I thanked him and waited for rep, then my spider sense started to tingle so I decided to ask this guy if he is on the CGC Journals and he said yes.Lo-and-behold.... it was Tnerb ().I introduced myself and he introduced me to his friend, then who else comes in ()... SW3D, it was great meeting you guys.We didn't really get a chance to chat for my CGC witness came and I was off and running the gauntlet. Hopefully we can do that next time.To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

    Well, can't say I wasn't surprise,
but overall I am happy with the outcome.
I knew ASM 129 would not merit a 8.5 because of the top staple, paper worn. I actually expected a 7.5.
FF 48, was what I expected and pleasantly surprised.
Inc Hulk 181, after carefully examining my scan of it I figure it too would not grade above 8.5.
Journey Into Mystery 85, was to me a shocker. Besides the piece missing in the lower right corner, the cover was somewhat wrinkled. But not enough to have color breaks. I estimated this one at a 5.0 and it came back at a 6.5.
Now while we all like to have high grades, to me being only a little over a year in collecting CGC books and passing 100 slabs, having them signed by my favorite artist is extremely rewarding and priceless.
Maybe one day I'll have the courage like some of you out there to crack open a high grade book to have it signed, just hope that it keeps its' grade.
    Thanks for reading

    Grades are Up
My submittals from April have return with passing grades. As promised, here they are posted.
I had Chris Claremont signed Marvel Team-Up 100 and it came back a 9.4, I thought it would grade no higher than a 9.2, sweet. I have a complete run of MTU including all seven annuals.
Neal Adams signed Capt. America #1 Diamond Select Toys Ed. - 9.6
    and Incredible Hulk #1 with a sketch - 9.8.
Also submitted were my ASM 700. I should have waited for Humberto Ramos and Stan Lee's signatures, but none-the-less, no worries.
    Thanks for reading

or my wallet just got lighter
Just got home from Wizard World NYC Experience, and let me say that I had a great time.
1st I waited over by Humberto Ramos's table to sign up to have my ASM 648 sketched (2 copies). I have six more but they will have to wait for another time, since he would only do 2 per person.
2nd I dropped by Arthur Suydam for the same purpose, and dropped off my copy of Walking Dead 109.
3rd I dropped by Desert Wind Comics to have several books signed by Stan Lee as well as others from the Legends Tour.
    I dropped off:
ASM 129 - Stan Lee, John Romita, Gerry Conway
    F. Four 48 - Stan Lee
Inc. Hulk 181 - Stan Lee, Herb Trimpe, Len Wein
I had the above three pressed and I am very curious as to see how well they will fair. But they did come back looking awesome.
Also submitted was, Thor Journey Into Mystery 85 - Stan Lee, Larry Lieber. This one will most likely come low grade, maybe 5.0 due to some wrinkling and a missing piece in the bottom right corner of the cover. But no worries, they'll have both brothers signature.
4th I had my Wizard World Comic Con Edition of Walking Dead # 1 (regular & sketched, that was given out by WW), signed by Neal Adams and left with CGC on an open ticket. The CGC people were incredibly nice. Thanks to CGC.
5th, I proceeded to Mike Zeck's and had my Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars (issues 1, 7 & 8) signed. Dropped off at CGC, same ticket.
    Whew!
With all that going on I started to walk around and look at all the artwork that was displayed by the various artist. Wow! While I do like the stories written in the comic books, I gravitate more towards the artwork. I mean, isn't that how we all started in this hobby of ours. As a kid, entering the local newstand, and looking at the comics on the rack. One maybe two caught your eye, and a relationship began.
I then started to look for some back issues. Since I am mostly a Spider-Man fan, I was looking for and was lucky to obtain:
    ASM # 5 (v2), 1st appearance of the new Spider-Woman
Web of Spider-Man # 118, 1st appearance of Scarlet Spider (Ben Rielly)
Ultimate Fallout # 4, 1st appearance of Miles Morales (Spider-Man). (Seeking mostly first appearances.) These look like 9.6's to me, but I will give them a much closer inspection when I get home. I will send them off to CGC for grading some other time.
Every so often I would walk back to Humberto Ramos & Arthur Suydam to check on their progress. Nope, working on other sketches.
While I was waiting I continue to search for back issues. I came across a raw copy of Iron Man # 55 (1st Thanos appearance). Yes, I purchased it. It too will have to wait. Looks like an 8.0 - 8.5 to me.
Walking around some more, I dropped by Rodney Ramos and had a sketch done. Of what? you may ask....... Spider-Man. Chatted with him a bit, great guy.
Went back to Suydam and at that moment he was almost done with my book. So I stood there and talked with him while he worked on my book. Very cool guy and down to earth. Once he completed the book I took his picture, thanked him, and told him that I am waiting on other sketches and that as soon as they are done I will get the CGC people and pick up the book.
Whew! Getting late and I am tired.
Now I walked across the aisle to Humberto and he was almost done with my second sketch. Chatted with him too while I waited. Very nice and humble guy. Once he was done I thanked him and took his picture holding both sketched books. Got the CGC people, completed my transaction and finally left without spending any more money.
But what an awesome time I had. Aside from meeting these artist the best part of the day was spending it with my boy.
Thanks for reading, looking forward to Comic Con New York in October.

    Sketchy
Went to the show for the purpose of getting my Incredible Hulk (4th series) Blank Variant sketched and signed by Neal Adams. While he was not not artist for the book, He did do the cover for 1/25 variant.
Here is the pic before it went out to CGC.
This sketch is my very first original piece of art work, and extremely pleased.
    Thank you Mr. Neal Adams
Also had my Marvel Team-Up 100 signed by Chris Claremont who wrote it along with Frank Miller (too bad he wasn't there), also went out to CGC. When they arrive I will post them.

My 8 signature series submissions from way back in March 2012 finally came home.
While they are not high grade (I knew this), I am pleasantly pleased. I bought the books from MY COMIC SHOP with their grade and they were on point.
Silver Surfer # 1 was 7.0 now CGC 7.0 SS (Stan Lee)
Iron Man # 2 was 7.5 now CGC 8.5 SS (Stan Lee)
Iron Man # 3 was 7.5 now CGC 8.5 SS (Stan Lee)
ASM # 101 was 8.0 now CGC 8.0 SS (Stan Lee)
ASM # 121 was 8.0 now CGC 8.0 SS (Stan Lee & John Romita)
ASM # 122 was 8.0 now CGC 8.0 SS (Stan Lee & John Romita)
ASM # 136 was 8.0 now CGC 8.5 SS (Stan Lee)
ASM # 137 was 8.0 now CGC 6.0 SS (Stan Lee) ouch. Didn't see that one coming.
CGC has truly reignited my passion in collecting anew. I have been actively involve in purchasing raw books from several sites on-line and haven't been disappointed with the seller's grade, as well as Comic Shops. Will be getting graded.
    I recently picked up Iron Man 1 hoping for a 7.5 and X-Men 20 looking for a 8.0.
NYCCC is quickly approaching and looking forward to it. Now I got to decide what books I should pull out to get signed. Definetly looking to get ASM 400 (3 copies) signed by Mark Bagley.
    Hmmm, what else, what else...
    Thanks for reading

    Silver and Copper
A few weeks ago I purchase via auction, ASM 40 (Green Goblin origin), ASM 44 (2nd Lizard app). And I am very please with them.
Today I walked into the comic book shop to buy a new storage box, and to my surprise there in the glass display were ASM 38 (Mary Jane 2nd Cameo app) and ASM 129 (1st Punisher app), two books that I have been looking for. I quickly scooped them up after a somewhat thorough inspection.
All the pages present, no ads clipped, tanning, staples in-tacked, cover no creases. No stains with the exception of no. 38, some water stain on the spine, thou tight spine and flat.
    Ooh the rush...
I have been slowly trying to complete as much of the Silver Age Spidey's as possible. Don't think that I will ever get the real early issues. The oldest spidey I have is ASM 11 in FN cond.
Well the hunt continues. Thanks for reading and Happy Hunting to all.

    Signed... but...
Well, I got my two Spider-Man 1 (1990) back, unfortunately I made a minor newbie error.
Signed by Stan Lee not Todd Mcfarlane. I should have told the Desert Wind people to get the second signature...oops. Minor error, yes, Stan is one of the co-creators, so therefore deserves to sign these two books.
None-the-less I am very pleased on recieving my first signature series of my originally purchased books.
I still have 4 # 1Silver Edition books (original owner) that I hope to get signed by all three, Stan, Steve and Todd.
Still waiting on my 9 Silver Age books also signed by Stan Lee and 2 of the nine with Romita signature. Those will not be high grades, sad to say.

    A Complete Set
Ok, they may not all be CGC 9.8, but, THEY ALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
None-the-less, I have the first complete graded set.
    Here is a group pic.
Now I am just waiting for the set to be added in the registry.
