  1. Agree on the JRJR assessment. Gotta disagree on the Jim Less assessment (but that's why it's fun to talk about right?). I've found it surprising that Greg Capullo's work is as well liked as it is. I think he's good, but I don't know if I'd put him up there with some of my other favorites - that's a style preference more then skill critique I think.
  2. Forgive my ignorance- can you give a bit more detail on what you mean by "cover proof?" My understanding was that these are essentially a test print run of the cover that's untrimmed that is used by the publisher to check everything looks the way it should prior to printing all the books. Given the size and lack of color, this obviously isn't that, so trying to understand what it is and where it fits in the production process. Thanks!
  3. I really hope this turns out well. Seems like there are always so many rumors of WB dysfunction. It'd be great if, this time, they were without merit.
  4. Looks very Samurai style. I always liked the way Optimus looked in the first movie more than how they keep changing him
  5. I watched this again last week. I liked it well enough the first time around and really didn't enjoy it the second time. Interesting how that can happen.
  6. Also caught up on episode 3 today. Thought there was pretty deep irony in the "how could someone have voted for the other guy?" Not a political statement one way or another, just interesting that they dropped that in with a couple weeks to go in the election this year.
  7. I believe the simple answer is that he's not interested in the market rates for things. He prices art based on his willingness to part with it. He's got a variety of reasons for wanted to keep pieces based on time, sentimental value, skill, or significance (personal and professional). He simply doesn't care what the average collector thinks about the value, he wants to be sure he doesn't ever regret selling a piece, and prices accordingly. Unique point of view, but I give him credit for finding a system he can feel good about.
  8. It was Strange, Mordo and Wong. Where was the "bunch of white people?" Well: Strange discovers someone else has done this training and tracks him down - white guy (his Mom is from Peru I suppose, so maybe doesn't count)? Understands this guy has learned the mystic asian arts and seeks the same. So he travels across the globe to a Nepalese temple to find... a white lady. Upon arrival, learns a previously exceptionally gifted protege was also there but has gone rogue (white guy, whose crew is also all western). The climax of the film then happens in one of the 3 HQs - Hong Kong, where not a single Chinese master/student is present. For a film that had significant portions both set in and drawing from Asian culture, all of the main characters are westerners with the exception of Wong (who is a Brit). I don't usually go looking for that sort of thing (I'm a white guy from Minnesota - can't get much whiter) and frankly don't often notice it - but this did feel out of place to me. I don't mean to take anything away from Wong in terms of heritage either - just felt like for a film with so much Asian influence in both location and culture, it was odd to see so little Asian representation in the principal (or even secondary) cast. Also - It's likely I was already thinking about it because of the Matt Damon trailer from the Great Wall of China movie (single white guy shows up in China to save the world) - so that probably made it worse in my head. Not picking a fight about it - just what I saw and felt.
  9. Saw it last night IMAX 3D. 3 things: 1) Overall I liked it - was fun. Cumberbatch is fun to watch. 2) Felt odd to once again have a bunch of white people leading/saving another asian culture based story. Wish Hollywood was better than that. Also, once again fails the Bechdel test pretty hard. So, not exactly a step forward despite having 2 "significant" female characters. Marvel needs to step this up (and they're not alone). 3) The dark dimension felt pretty lame to me - it looked like someone saw bacteria under a microscope for the first time and just had to put that on the big screen. "This must be what other dimensions are like!!!!" Also, didn't love the fruitypebbles-imbibed-Thanos-meets-Galactus-esque-smoke-monster mashup.
  10. Anyone else feel like the special effects this season have decreased in quality substantially?
  11. Yeah - agree totally - Deathstroke would make an amazing Batman villain
  12. I had a poster signed by him at SDCC this year - I'd say it was a neutral encounter. I purchased the poster print from his booth (which I later also had Alex Sinclair sign and Alex appeared disappointed that Neal had turned a somewhat low quality scan of their work into a print - Alex sells 1 of 1 OA size color prints as his "original" work since his colors are digital. He wasn't upset, but I could tell for all the pride he puts into the colors, this made him a little sad - he sorta looked it over and said, "man, you can see he just threw a book on the scanner..." I am a big Sinc' fan so that made me a little sad too). Anyway, Neal was happy to sign it. I asked what he had been up to lately and he looked at me like I was a crazy person - "Well, mostly Superman - is the book I've been working on." I replied that yes I'd been following the book and I had meant what was he keeping busy with during the con. Again, he looked at me like I was dumb, and replied that he usually sketches during cons. My open ended way of engaging to see if he'd been doing/drawing anything particular or interesting so far during the weekend obviously fell flat so I moved on. I commented to him that I really enjoyed the specific piece of which I was buying the poster print. He replied that I should buy a sketch from him and I could have an original of my very own. I responded that I'd love that but would have to save for a bit. He responded that "yes well, even wealthy people have to save." It was a sort of abrupt gruff reply that wasn't rude, but also wasn't inviting or a "yeah I get it - cons can be expensive" type response. It wasn't a bad interaction, but pretty much every other creator I spoke with was much warmer and easier to talk with. I consider myself fairly articulate and easy going and just sort of "missed" conversationally with him despite my efforts to be warm and interested in his work/weekend. For whatever that's all worth - one more data point you can use to prep. His booth was empty when I came by for all of this. As long as you have good expectations, I think you'll be just fine
  13. I like this thread - fun to see the more affordable side of our hobby
  14. So, I liked the movie well enough (with previously mentioned complaints), but thought this was a pretty funny video review on it nonetheless:
  15. Saw it yesterday. I thought it was good. Really enjoyed Deadshot, Robbie's acting, Waller, and Flag. They had good chemistry and were interesting to watch. The plot was cliche and far from air tight, but I was ok with it. The characters are what make this movie interesting so I didn't feel like it needed to be anything more for me to enjoy it. Had 4 things that really bugged me throughout and prevented me from thinking it was very good: 1) Joker = Specifically his tattoos and teeth - just stupid. I thought Leto acted it well, and didn't mind the wardrobe and feel of a crime boss/gangster (thought that was a neat interpretation) - he just looked really silly and it distracted me in his "best" scenes. 2) Harley's Bum - got more screen time than Katana and many other "major" characters. Reduced (not totally, but a lot) Harley's character to "the hot girl" which takes away so much of what makes her interesting. Just the opposite of what I hope female heroes (& anti-heroes) can be. So unnecessary and a lame wardrobe choice - the 13 year old boys who get excited about that are already your target audience - don't cheapen it for the 13 year old girls. Seeing little kids at comic con dressed like this broke my heart a little. 3) Boomerang - what a stupid addition. Didn't do ANYTHING and really wasn't the comic relief he was intended to be. I really wish he wasn't in the film and Katana took that role. Which brings me to: 4) Katana - They hinted at so many cool elements of her character and story, and then she did nothing. She could have been such a cool focus - certainly WAY better than Boomerang. Wish she would have been used more. The movie would have been exactly the same if she was replaced with "Man with Knife." Hopefully we see more of her elsewhere in the future ALSO - POST 1,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Man, I saw ultimate edition tonight - SO much better. Really liked it a lot more.
  17. Man, I was in Hall H when this premiered and it was incredible. I was super pumped. Trailer looks so good. I love that the lasso glows and the fights scenes look so powerful. Just really really good looking. Can't wait for this movie
  18. Man, the promo materials for this just don't work for me - the cartoony spray paint rainbows all over just don't create a feel that makes me think this will be good. When I think about it, I want to see it, and then every time I see a promo, all I can think about is how terrible it looks.
  19. Yeah, when I switched to IE it started working for me. I think I got 2 sets
