  1. Perez is a Machine So I went to the NY comic show today. It was a one day show and it turned out great. It was a small venue and although there was not a lot of guests each one that was there was very accessible. I ended up getting about 30 books signed by George Perez as well as a 40.00 sketch of Adam Warlock. Chris Claremont signed another 40 or so for me as well as a couple more by Mark Texiera, Alex Maleev, and Bill Tucci. I also had 3 books sent for SS CGC. They were GI Joe 48, Tales of the Teen Titans 44, and Ghost Rider 6 and I sent them in fast track for the first time. It was a light show but I am saving up for Philly, Baltimore, and 2 for NY. I might try to sneak in a couple more like Chicago and Boston but only if it is worth it and the creators don't overlap. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 2. To CGC or not to CGC, you know the rest. I have a few questions again. Does anybody here still purchase books with a signature on it if it is not graded? If not, is it because of the uncertainty of its authenticity or is it more about value? If you do, how much value does the signature add or for that matter does it add any monetary value at all or rather does it just add to the desirability of the book? Finally, if you do buy unslabbed signatures would you rather have it on a less known or less key book compared to a first appearance or such? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 3. I need help!!! My kids have forced me into spending my extra comic book money on every possible figure they can find. And I have come to realize there are a lot. Please, nobody tell them about the Disney Infinity game that is coming out. With owning Marvel and Star Wars I might have to use my mortgage payment. 4. Cutting through the red tape Hey Guys. Has anybody seen the craze for Spawn's Angela all of a sudden? Spawn number 9 and the Angela miniseries have started going wild since it was announced that Angela will be in the Marvel Universe. I think Screenwriter showcased Spawn 9 not to long ago. I think I have about 15 or so copies to send it to CGC. The question is how many do I send regular and how many do I save for Signature Series? In that book there is a lot to go around. McFarlane art, Gaiman story, and Jim Lee poster inside. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  5. Couldn't be much happier. Here are a few book I have been waiting on since September 2012. New Mutants 1 CGC SS 9.8 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=111034955335&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT Claremont chastised me about the plastic bag and the painters tape when he signed the book saying it limits him on where he could sign because he would rather sign it across the top. Batman The Killing Joke CGC SS 9.8 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140938184979&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT I received 3 back at this grade and since it is one of my all-time favorites I will be keeping a copy for myself(and maybe I can get Alan Moore to sign it one day). I am scared of doing this because as you all know once it starts it never stops. I started collecting Skylanders with my kids and it has become overwhelming. . Last one for now. Uncanny X-men 266 CGC SS 9.8 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140936652483&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT Another one I want to keep but only received one at this grade so too bad for me. 6. To Sign or Not to Sign? Hello Everyone, I have a few questions about desirability of a comic. What are your preferences on Signature Series Books and how does it affect how much you would spend on them? More specifically would you rather have a Stan Lee autographed book where he really had nothing to do with it or would you rather it be a signature of one of the creators of the book? For example, would you rather get an Uncanny X-Men 266, which is the first full Gambit, signed by Stan or by Chris Claremont? In this example, Chris of course did the story whereas Stan just has his name attached to all Marvel Comics. This isn't even one where Stan created the character. To take it a step further, if you did want a Stan auto over any other would you want it on a book he actually wrote or would that not matter? To go back to the earlier scenario, if it was a creator's autograph that you desired which one would you want the most? Meaning the writers or the pencillers or the cover artists? Finally, would you want multiple autographs if possible or is the one "most important" autograph acceptable? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  7. Or Why in the World did I get this Book Graded? Hey Guys, Although I have bought, sold, and collected comics since I am about 15(I am now 41), this was my first full year delving into CGC books. That being the case I only have this past year to gauge my progress and to see what kind of trends and economic practices have taken place. I also only sell on E-bay, since it is very easy compared to other sites and is the least expensive, or at least comparable. So my question is, do you see many more CGC books on E-bay these past 2 months or so, and aren't many of these books being sold for a very small profit, if that? One thing I am very good at is calculating cost and I can't see how it is worthwhile for many of these people to make 3, 4, or 5 dollars profit on a book after laying out 20.00 or more on the whole CGC process. And waiting God knows how long to get the books back. More so, why do you think this is the case? Is it dealers getting everything CGC'd, even though they are not key? Or people in general not knowing how to grade? Or is it just collectors getting rid of extra stuff they don't want? Let me know what you all think?
