  1. Please read the rules. That's not how these forums work.
  2. My 2 cents Move to trades/graphic novels. Most people these days prefer to binge on things. Change distribution to larger retailers. Most people don't like to go to comic stores Stick with creators for at least 2 years If you can't stick to a creative team for 2 years then don't publish as singles and publish as trades/graphic novels Let creators create. Editorially mandated crossovers and storylines are typically Try more Image/DarkHorse/Valiant comics. Marvel/DC Superhero comics are stale. There is a lot of good quality stuff being done by other publishers.
  3. I have to agree it's a great read. I liked how the characters were brought to the present day and how it's setting up the Wildstorm universe. It will certainly read better as a full run since Ellis is clearly playing the long game.
  4. I also read East of West. Been on my pull list since issue 1.
  5. I just want good stories that are not interrupted by silly mandates from management/editorial. Is that too much to ask? Guess my pull list will continue to be dominated by Image.
  6. Lazarus has one of the best letters page out there. Marvel and DC cut them to reduce costs and because no one writes a letter but mostly for costs.
  7. Not pulling anything from Marvel these days. Guess I got tired of the relaunches
  8. Have to agree with most of these except Monstress. I will have to read past the first trade to see if it holds up.
  9. Yes, the characters are engaging and you feel them grow and progress. Real hardships are experienced which changes them as time goes along. Not something you get to experience often as characters in comics tend to follow a blueprint or archetype barely changing along the way.
  10. Bowing out of this discussion since the first step is recognizing there is a problem. Not many people want to recognize there is a problem.
  11. Need to read My favorite Things is Monsters. I never grab anything by Fantagraphics but everyone is praising it.
  12. Needs to be the right artist. Last fill-in didn't mesh well with the art style you had come to expect
  13. Agreed but we are looking into why this place is not thriving. To thrive we need new members. I firmly believe that how new members are treated is an essential component. After all, who returns to a restaurant where the host was rude and the waiter didn't answer your questions until you asked 3 times?
  14. This post and the likes it has sums up some of the challenges for new members. I read it as "I was insulted and harassed but I survived so you should too when I or others do the same to you". No old guard trying to keep newbs out but "there are hierarchies and cliques". Middle-aged men....I sure wish we could get teens , young adults and women in....not gonna happen though big-boy pants, mommy in the next room, Billy takes your ice cream cone....won't even go int what's wrong with these statements
  15. Just finished reading this. Loved the series but those fill-in issues were hard. Art was rushed and honestly not very good.
  16. I've had good experiences on the facebook comic collecting groups but your mileage will vary. I can also add reddit as a friendly platform for comic discussions. Buy and sell groups on facebook are not such fun for me though. I still feel these boards have too much emphasis on buying and selling which detracts from newer members who just want to talk about the latest story or artist/writer team on Aquaman.
  17. My 2 cents is that attrition happens at a higher rate than new members join. The fact of the matter is that the boards are a tad hostile to new members. Whereas facebook for example is a bit more friendly to new members. Furthermore, facebook transactions are not as regulated as the boards. Here sales are broken down between copper/modern, gold/silver/bronze and mixed. It's just too overwhelming for new members. Why not have a single sales subforum? Also, agreeing with other people that have commented, most people here are interested in sales. There are basically 0 discussions on the modern, copper, gold subforums that are not related to prices and what is hot. This is especially glaring on the modern subforum where one would expect discussion on current books.
