    Proud Father

My son loves comics too and is quite the artist! Hello...DC, Marvel you guys hiring? Okay a little self serving journal being a gushing parent. My son has been helping me go through my collection and re-board and bag everything as we prepare books for sale. He is 20 and is an actor who was a lead in a kids TV show for one season and the funds ran out so he is back home auditioning (the life of an actor!) and helping his old man when he is able with his huge comic obsession turned garage sale He is an artist through and through and though I knew he has been drawing for years and have seen snippets of his recent work and thought wow, he actually might have talent, I really never gave it that much thought given his acting career. Then he hands me this drawing and asks if I will scan it for him... HOLY ..... Wow. I told him he should consider being a comic artist for a career along with the acting. He claims that he isn't fast enough at this point...I don't know, I think with the ability to do this kind of thing out of his head (which he did) speed will come.... Anyway just a cool part of my day today, thinking that my son might actually be able to fit into this industry that I have delved in for many years... Yeah, I know...I hate listening to gushing parents too so thanks for listening. Ajester To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  2. Sold Andrew an IF1 CGC Book and received payment right away! Awesome experience!! Ajester
  3. OR why did the status on my 35 book order move from "Grading/Quality Control" to just "Graded"? Recently I posted a little whining about the fact that CGC no longer posts the grades of our books when the status goes to "graded". I am certain that it is just a coincidence that after I posted my little whine that my 35 book order slipped back from Graded/Quality Control to Graded. Has anyone else seen this happen? I hearbye retract anything that I have ever posted, said or even thought that was derogatory toward the hinge-pin of the Comic Universe which is CGC! My heart warms at the very thought of my best books wearing the Beautiful CGC wrapper! The people at CGC are the most wonderful people I have ever had the privilege of knowing...well okay I don't really know you...or...have not ever met you but I just know that you are all the hard working salt of the earth and amazing people! ESPECIALLY the graders *wink* wink* oh and those in charge of moving my books to "Shipped" status *smootch* smootch* Are we good now? Can my books be released from purgatory? OR at least move forward in the process instead of backwards?!? Seriously, I am sure y'all really are awesome and as such I sincerely hope y'all appreciate satire. Oh, and why DID my books move backwards??? Ajester To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  4. Or I am a big boy just tell me the grades - it helps the waiting... Okay here is a little wine to go with the cheese today. I think I speak for all when I say it is a bit frustrating to wait so long for grading. Having said that I think all of us have come to terms with the reality and as I understand it CGC is addressing it with added graders. The sceptical side of me says they can afford it now that many are using Fast Track but a post for another time... So we have learned patience and how to deal with counting the days weeks months...then instead of seeing that our books are finally graded and getting a little dose of happiness to tide us over we now have to look at the words "Grading/Quality Control for several more days.......weeks....Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! Wasn't quality Control happening before? Is it that they are concerned that they will post grades that might change before shipping as I have heard some say? What does that look like? And if so, hey just state that it might happen and why and then p o s t the grades when you know them! Knowing helps us endure the very long road our books travel. We are big boys and gals and we can handle knowing the truth! Now I have thought of another eventuality and that is that perhaps they are hitting the "graded" button sooner than they used to (doesn't feel like it but just maybe) regardless the reality from the customers perspective has to be considered...I don't know as I can only speak for this customer and not the many others but I suspect that many if not all would agree with me when I say... SHOW US THE GRADES!! After our books have been graded...it gives us that milestone for which to look forward and then the next milestone is when they ship... Psychology (woah look out I used a big word!) counts when dealing with customers...especially customers who are learning (successfully?) patience. Okay maybe I am not a big boy after all But come on show us your loyal customers some love! It is what it is sooooo what is the grade?! Ajester To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 5. Weird Fantasy 16 (Canadian) only one in census? Is it really this rare? Canadian fantasy? I just purchased a Weird Fantasy 16 Canadian Edition (Superior Comics) 1952. I sent it n to get graded as it appeared to be high grade. Just received the grade and it was an 8.0 OWW which made me happy enough to go check the census....? (W)hiskey (T)ango (F)oxtrot?!? There are none listed with this issue #. Checked on GPAnalysis and again NO sales. So not only do I have the Highest Grade on the census I appear to have the ONLY graded Weird Fantasy 16 Canadian Version out there! I was planning on selling it as I have been selling off my "many years of obsession collection" at the urgent behest of my wife (I know, many would say "I'm gonna miss that girl") but I had to put a higher value on the relationship. I have considered a hiding place for some of my gems and now I am really torn! What to do? I don't even have a good feel for what the WF 16 is worth if I were going to sell. Anybody out there have an idea? I have sold many of my Canadian variants already but I love the EC titles! What to do? No pick but will post when it arrives from CGC...
