  1. CAT-MAN COMICS #3 CGC 1.5 QUALIFIED OW PAGES Centerfolds married, staples replaced. Stalin cover. Hitler and Mussolini as well. $800
  2. CAPTAIN AMERICA #74 Classic Red Skull Cover! CGC Restored Grade 7.0 Slight/Mod(A-2) Restoration includes: Small amount of color touch on cover, pieces added to cover, tear seals to cover, cover cleaned, cover reinforced. I put this under black light and the c.t. is fairly slight, just at the corner edges and a few very small hits on the spine and reading edge. Likely small corner fills on book account for the "pieces added". Really pretty copy for a great price. The photo is best for judging color, the scan for details. $8000

ALL WINNERS #12 Restored. Off-white pages. At 5" spine split from the bottom has been sealed to the spine. The book would have been in GD condition if left alone. Maybe an "apparent" 3.0 now. 5. Yeah, a quick perusal of his feedback indicates that while small as a percentage of transactions, he gets routinely negged for overgrading. I tend to check the FB of anyone under 100% to see if there is a pattern of shoddy practices or if it's a couple of people complaining about shipping time or a refund for something that ended up being unavailable. I buy around 100 raw GA a year on ebay, for me the bad luck seems to come in batches. Overall my dissatisfaction rate based on expectations whether returned, partially refunded, or keep it anyway for the price is less than 10%, but in the spring of last year there was two month period where I had to return about a 1/3 of my purchases for undisclosed restoration or clipped or missing pages (a couple were just refunded without return as they were cheap to begin with). I agree there is little point in buying graded copies of low value books (<$100), unless they sell for the same price as raw. Unless you really like your lower grade readers slabbed, you'll end up paying a premium that outweighs the cost of risk.
  6. I have to imagine if a book with a full spine split qualified as a 1.8, it would have to pretty nice otherwise, though I can remember when even some pretty sweet looking books would end up in a 1.0 holder if they had a completely split spine (and then end up as a 2.5 after some enterprising soul had run scotch tape up the spine).
  7. Pressing doesn't get rid of creases, it just flattens them out, possibly making them less evident (unless they break color, in which case they're still pretty evident). What it can take out are bends, wrinkles, waviness, and some dimples. But an actual crease is going to have compromised the fiber of the paper.
  8. I'd send the MDA back, It's a 1.0,1.5 at best if you accept that grade for a completely split spine. The book isn't that scarce, and there's a nice looking VG on ebay at a fair price with a BO option. Neither book shown looks anywhere near the grade advertised, even without spine splits. the WDCS acceptably a 5.0 at best, and the MDA 3.5 tops, just based on pictures. The seller clearly doesn't know how to grade, or does and just figures he won't get hurt by seriously overgrading if the book looks like the picture, the problem being it doesn't even come close with the MDA. It's possible the spine was really weak and sheared in shipping, I just bought a book from a reputable seller that didn't appear to have a split in the pictures, which included an inside shot of the cover, but arrived split to the bottom staple. I wasn't happy, but as the book was maybe a 3.0 to start with, I could live with it being more like a 2.0 for the price, and will keep it. That's my general philosophy, if I still would have purchased a book for the same price after receiving it, I don't leave neg or neutral feedback, I just don't leave any at all, and try to remember who overgrades. There are sellers on ebay that routinely overgrade that I will still purchase from, but I just assume the book is 3 grades less than advertised (usually evident from the pix), and bit accordingly. Judging the prices such sellers get, I'm not the only one, as their stuff rarely sells for the FMV of the advertised grade.
  9. I had the pleasure of doing a transaction with Mike before he started posting on the boards. He's a great guy and I look forward to more of his threads.
  10. in thread rules. Paypal, check, m.o. or bank transfer acceptable. 7 day return, even on CGC books, but shipping costs will be deducted from refund. No HOSers or probies. Need a week or so to get payment together, no problem, I'll hold the book for you. Purchases in California must pay sales tax. ACTION COMICS #23 CGC Apparent 3.5 Slight (A-1) OW Pages Married Centerfold Restoration includes small amount of color touch on cover, staples replaced (Tape on cover & interior) There is some sort of scuffing or residue on the case, I haven't been able to remove, that is what causes the cloudiness in the center of the cover, it is not on the book. 1st Lex Luthor story (even though Superman #4 came out a week earlier, this is clearly the first time Supes encounters Luthor) $4400 Now $4000 SOLD! as I'm knocking $100 off what I was going to ask for reholdering if the buyer chooses to do so. Priced less than what you'd expect to pay for an unrestored 2.0
  11. Sharp looking 4.5, that would have been a 1970s Very Fine.

  13. They should only do that if you are purchasing something at their location in person. For example, most states with a sales tax require state sales tax to be collected by those setting up at shows, regardless of whether the seller or purchaser are from the state in question. Whether sellers and buyers actually comply is another thing altogether.
  14. That Fireman Saucy is rather tame for the run, but a beautiful copy.
  15. You buy enough stuff on ebay, you'll eventually get something shipped in a flimsy envelope with no added protection, and no bag. Fortunately for me, it's only happened to low grade inexpensive stuff, and if the books picked up additional damage I couldn't tell. I did get a slab shipped from the U.K. once that was dropped into a thin paper mailer that barely fit, and that was all. Fortunately it arrived without a scratch.
  16. Hmmm, I submitted a CA resellers license to ebay last October, and it took about a week to go into effect, but I've had no problem since. Also, no problems with the auction houses.
