  1. Well, I have heard that some online websites will play some music while you wait for checkout. I'm putting in the Static X musical theme while you wait, after a few tunes you won't care what the books cost.
  2. Without names it is hard to figure out who doesn't provide a invoice. I provide a invoice. Bob www.highgradecomics.com
  3. Why do you assume that the book is "consigned" and not owned by the auction house? If owned every shill bid is money in their pocket if owned.
  4. I wish posters would stop bad mouthing a show just because there are NO pictures or commentary. If you are looking for some "real" information talk to someone who you know very well that did or does the show and base their impression on what they are looking for. Believe it or not there was a lot of Golden age at the show. There was actually some keys that dealers could sell closer to GPA as we work through the Covid price hangover. There were actually sweetspots of price points that did very well. Dumpster divers could actually do well also. My sales were ok to good, buying was good. Traffic was good, there were definitely some booth placement issues due to a Reed Sales rep leaving. Load in went surprising well, I have no idea how load out went since I never base it on how I get out of the show. This show is long, stressful and very very hard work doing. It is 6 days 15 - 16 hour long days.
  5. ????????????? I can see with glasses. I just take them off when I'm grading
  6. I was at the Shortboxed dinner on Friday night. Richard Evans of Bedrock summed up "market reports", Convention sales and the "State of the Market" perfectly. He said your market report in the OSPG for the year and frankly for conventions is really based on the inventory that you have available to sell. If you have great inventory at great prices then things are generally pretty good. If you don't have the books or the pricing power your market and convention sales reports will reflect that. But where will you read a convention report or OSPG report where the seller admits that they haven't really gotten anything good lately or have lousy pricing models? As usual when I think I know a lot he has come up with something that is absolutely true.
  7. Having CGC/Casino not in the house has taken a lot of buzz out of shows. Onsite grading brings books to the show and new material to any show they are at. While I understand the problems that onsite grading brings the promoters should be finding a way of getting them to a show to do onsite. If you can pay a celebrity to have them there how about tossing the dealers a bone to get CGC to do onsite grading at shows.
  8. My take on Baltimore this year was good buying, very bad selling show for me. I either didn't have the Timely's or DC Golden Age, Horror books that customers wanted this year or I didn't have the books customers did want at the price point they wanted to buy at. There are always shows out there that require "you the dealer" to have a tractor trailer in negotiation room in order to close the sale. Baltimore is one of those shows. Motor City was one of the shows, Megacon another. If you don't hit that buyers "version of fair" after your offer the "I'll think about it guys" move on looking for that book that qualifies for their version of a "Deal". Box stock didn't sell that well and It looks like it is time for a inventory evaluation. Cash/trade offers this year unfortunately were on books that while I liked them didn't have the eye appeal to make them easy to sell. And frankly if a cash/trade offer is net a check to the customer I would prefer getting something that I like. Even though there are plenty of "reports" stating dealers won't adjust their pricing lets NOT FORGET those owners of books having a hard time letting go of what their collection WAS worth a year or more ago. The Bronze age Billionaire's as I call them aren't exactly singing the "Hills are alive with the sound of cha-ching" in their new reality. My assessment on the Bronze age market is one where I really feel like it is marching to the Gasoline market. Up and downs every day where I'm happy one day and disgusted the next. It almost feels like I don't want to be a buyer of this part of the business for awhile. I'm tired of stepping up, paying what I feel is a fair price for something and 3 months later looking at it going WTF did I buy this? But look while I may be disgusted at this time of the day on this post doesn't mean I will feel the same way tomorrow. Fanexpo Chicago was a great show for me which was a very pleasant surprise. Baltimore was a very big disappointment and frankly I'll own up to my issues on why it was.
  9. They will be hot again when they are relaunched
  10. Maybe she is hoping that they will dry out
  11. This sign pretty much says please do our work for us and reward us for our laziness in not going through our inventory. Better yet invest in some LED price stickers that can change price as soon as you start looking at it.
  12. If he were truly funny instead of being "shadowbanned" he would have said he was "Condomed" by the Big Lick for his protection.
  13. As I said before he is looking for a "real experience" where he can control the commentary. This is not a request for a "interview", this is "his experience" where he can control and provide the "sticky goose" agenda without any pushback.
  14. Sticky just wants to be the new Morton Downey Jr of Dealer haters.
  15. If you do these things you wouldn't have any video content.
  16. "In the end, if you dont get a discount it doesn't necessarily mean they're your "enemy" either" This should really say "in the end, If you don't get the deal you want it just means we couldn't come to an agreement in price. It isn't personal, I just cannot meet your definition of a "deal".
  17. Buying a dealer a coffee, donut, danish would go a lot farther then pushing me a note. Have you have seen a food frenzy when a promoter provides some breakfast food like bagels or donuts? As I've said there are more then a few dealers that live on the happy meal diet
  18. A genuine friend is like a bra, she supports you at all times
  19. "Dealers just want your money. Period" Listen, everybody in the room, the dealers, the promoter running it and the concession stands selling food at a show want your money. The only reason I'm there is to make a living, I'm not paying to setup and chit chat all day. What I'm not there to do is lie to get your money or bury you so deep you never buy from me again. But rest assured I am there to make sales.
  20. Listen, this is the new version of reporting. No interaction, come up with an opinion, throw a title that is always one to create controversary and basically say whatever you want. If I came up to his booth at a show he sets up at I'm sure I could "paint him with broad strokes" as he responded to Foolkillers post in the video thread. I am also not sure how Dealers could be your friend if we have never met before or done business and frankly this isn't a guy that rings a bell. Usually friendship builds over time. Friends usually don't throw you under the bus either.
  21. I did not know. Normally people ask if they can take a picture or interview. I get it, they want "real"
  22. Sorry, you are correct about this. Should have noted that also.
  23. There are so many issues with the Dealers are not your friend video that I wouldn't know where to begin. First, Define the term "Deal". To this video reporter that could mean Dealer Eats A Loss. Could mean 12 month GPA, 90 day, last sale GPA or the Overstreet price guide. I need to be that guy that you can show off the "haul to" where you the viewer can see how many Deals I got from sellers. Second, the main aisle to the side aisle commentary. Well, I was a side aisle dealer with main aisle books. I guess I fall into the "Don't buy from anybody with big ticket books". Third, I'm not exactly sure how teared up I would get if people didn't recognize me from my you tube video's. I guess in the South it isn't enough to get Is there anything I can help you with? I've got to tell you that I love watching your video's? Fourth, Conflict of interest. First off I'm not sure I can make a video stating "Dealers are not your friends" when you openly admit that you setup as a dealer. Your example that both buyers and sellers are "tense" is created by the promoter by the way. I didn't realize it was my job to soothe that tension by making you some money that covers the promoters cost of you getting in. My responsibility as a seller is to have the inventory buyers want to buy, prices that they may want to pay and the ability to get them the books that they need. The idea that I want to take every dollar out of your pocket is your "perception". If you operate that way you won't have many customers long term. Looking to sell that one big book versus a bunch of small ones? Huh? Big book sales normally don't take place at shows but there are buyers who come to see the book and then do the deal in private. Most big buyers prefer what they buy be private versus showcasing to whoever is at the booth what they have and what they spend. If you don't treat big buyers with respect they don't buy from you. Being known as a UNDERTAKER is not a good reputation to have. CGC books in Mylar are not a way to make the product look better. CGC books in mylar or any bag for that matter are because those "tense" buyers don't want scratches on the holder. God forbid that holder has a rub, if the book is a 9.8 that outer well that means nothing to the grade better be perfect to. As others have stated a good dealer should take the book out of any bag it is in. And yes I do consider Lou to be a very good friend who I have known for years. There are a lot of people in this hobby/business that I am friends with.
  24. Update: I have now watched this video through its entirety. I do remember this encounter. He asked me to see the first appearance of the Haunted Tank GI combat issue which is the planes dive bombing. I told him that I didn't have the first appearance issue. I believe he asks to see the first cover appearance issue of G.I. combat Haunted tank which is issue #91, I do not and did have that issue either. Whether he made a mistake or not what else am I supposed to say? I have spent years behind the table to know that if people are asking for specific books that is their "quest for the show". If somebody is asking me to see a FF #48 and I don't have one I'm sorry but I don't show them every other Galactus issue I have. Doing that very very rarely results in a sale. And no I wasn't judging him an insufficiently_thoughtful_person.
