  1. Yes that's it. The pictures are a bit deceiving. It's huge.
  2. This happens because most scanners use a CIS sensor and will only scan anything pressed right up on the glass. A CIS sensor lacks the depth of field required to scan a comic inside a slab which is lifted a bit from the glass when placed in the scanner. The best scanners to use for scanning slabs are any scanner with a CCD sensor which is capable of scanning items that not only press against the glass but also slightly off the glass as well. I found a really good article that discusses the differences here: http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artjan13/dw-scanner-type.html
  3. No, you are incorrect here. Diamond does not report print runs for variants. So this is the crux of the discussion, then. Is the 254K regular covers only, or is it all copies shipped through Diamond? If it's regular covers only, I suspect Jay's number is near correct, and indeed international numbers and small store orders are a wash. If it's all covers, there's a huge chunk of books in the 254K that don't qualify for the 1:100s, and carcrawford's number is likely close. It is the regular covers only. Diamond *does not* report print runs for variants. I refer you back to recalledcomics.com which features multiple books with ballparked print run numbers that are premised on the regular cover orders for several dealer incentive variants (EoSV #2 being one of them as well now). -J. You, sir....are insane. I gave you links that explain it, Larry (a rather large retailer who actually produces store retailers), and other boardies have told you these numbers are included in the Comichron numbers. Your only argument is based on a random website that just divides the print run by the odds on the variant. That is some serious science involved in that. No one said anything about Diamond disclosing print runs for variants and I have no idea why that is one of your talking points. We are trying to tell you that the 20-25 retailers who ordered store exclusives/phantom variants/ghost variants/etc. are INCLUDED in the print run for that book in the month. These are accounts that are serviced by and produced by Diamond and ship to the retailers from Diamond. I am done talking about this because it is like talking to a brick wall. I would hope that you would do some more research and stop spreading misinformation. And again, you are still wrong. NO variant print runs are disclosed by diamond. Zero. Zilch. Nada. None. Nothing. That being the case, there is NO WAY for the print runs of the variants to be included in the comichron total. What you are seeing is the regular cover ONLY. Nothing you have linked to states otherwise and the reason you are unable to provide any applicable links is because you are wrong. First you tried to tell people this thing only had 500 copies. Now you're saying 1250. Clearly, you do not know what you are talking about, so maybe you should stop talking. And It does not matter what "kind" of variant it is, or who ordered it. THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED. For you to say otherwise is an outright lie. I'm sure you're just trying to make a buck, but I would suggest you try doing so without attempting to deceive the participants on these boards. And yes, recalledcomics.com is a well respected site. I'm sorry if ALL of the information on there disagrees with everything you are trying to say here as well, but it is what it is. *I apologize to the other readers of this post if I seem rather inflamed. But this guy really needs to just quit. His motives are just too transparent. -J. Wait... so you're telling me I can't read? That on the Cominchron Feb 2015 figs page it doesn't say "Items marked with daggers [†] include orders of more than 350,000 copies from Loot Crate." I'm pretty sure that means that the number includes the number of loot crate variants printed.
  4. No, you are incorrect here. Diamond does not report print runs for variants. -J. http://comichron.com/monthlycomicssales/2015/2015-02.html doesn't the little dagger explain that Orphan Black includes 350k Loot Crates?
  5. Check out the very first post in this thread. It has a really good write up with pictures.
  6. Looks like this could be a good starting point for finding some info: http://www.volstor.com/ The site looks a bit outdate, but the retailer page has some contact info that's worth trying. BCW has a similar product: http://www.bcwsupplies.com/cat/comic-supplies/comic-accessory/comic-book-stor-folio-1-5-inch These are great for travel. I own a few of these to carry books around when I go to cons.
  7. Not sure what OS you're on, but on my Win 7 machine; it saves them to: Pictures > My Scans > .. then the software appends it by adding 'Scan' to the picture, with a number. In Win 7 if you're scanning and saving as tiff files, it's creating a multipage tiff file. Took me a while to figure this out because it seemed like only my first scan was showing up in the "My Scans" folder.
  8. Thanks to Kevlar. Just got 4 Guardian of the Galaxy - Paolo Rivera variants in from Wizard World Sac. These 3 came back lone top census:
  9. Yeah you're not going to find a new one. The HP ScanJet 8300 was released in 2009. I think its MSRP was close to $600. The specs show if you use it with and ADF it scans 25ppm http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/il/en/sm/WF06b/15179-15179-64195-3445111-3445111-1118287-1118289.html?dnr=2 When I first got my scanner, I scanned 60 slabs in about 40 min at 300dpi. If you could auto feed slabs I'm sure I'd be faster. You should be able to find a used one for about $80 shipped, with a major part of the cost going to shipping. The thing is huge!
  10. That's a little disturbing, have you called them about it? Looks like something may have held them up leading up to and around WWSac. Mine were waiting to be verified for a few weeks. 3/9 - Submitted at WWSAC 3/12 - Marked as Received 4/2 - Marked as verified
  11. There's some great advice a few pages back: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=7409247#Post7409247 Looks like that's a newer all-in-one. It will probably not be great for scanning slabs, but will probably do the trick for raws.
  12. Oh great tip! Just checked it out. Definitely makes sense. Thanks.
  13. Do you have scans of the interiors. If you're curious enough, spend the $5 on the notes.
  14. You should get an email with a tracking number. For me, the email has usually shown up the day after my order is marked shipped. I think on average, it's taken my packages about 5 days, give or take a day.
  15. 1.5 x regular time on avg Sounds good i'll see how long it actually takes. For me they have been quicker than usual, but Con season is about in to full swing. Plus i like the fact they don't charge you till the books are shipped. Is this specific for dealers or something? They charge me when they receive the books, not when they ship them back. Or did I miss something? This isn't true. CGC bills the moment the books are received in the system. So what's the point of prescreen if they charge up for all the books? Or do they refund for ungraded books once they ship them?
  16. I'm telling you -- flip the book. The light generally refracts differently with different bends in the case and oftentimes the glare is eliminated. That and scan in total darkness with the lid open. I'll test it out. (thumbs u I do scan with the lid open I have tried it all sort of light conditions even tried using a black cloth over the scanner You said you were scanning at 300pixels/in, maybe try a lower resolution. I know my first scans were at that resolution and I didn't like how much detail it was picking up. I just don't remember if there was more glare at that resolution. I still get slight glare, but it seems to stay off the comic and only on the plastic edges of the slab, which is fine by me. I'm really curious what could be causing it. Might point me in a good direction to get better scans from the thicker slabs.
  17. I actually don't see them either. Didn't even know they existed. I see the adjust at the top right, but if that only comes on after scanning, I've never noticed since i do all my adjustments outside the scan app. The only settings i'm using is a custom scan profile. With the following settings: Capture tab: Mode: Color Resolution: 200 pixels/inch Regions: straighten checked Adjust tab: Color: Boost colors checked Exposure: Adjust exposure checked, Adjust black/white threshold checked Noise: Sharpen checked Enhance tab: nothing checked. I do vary minimal adjustments after the scans. Usually only cropping with the occasional adjustments to blacks and color saturation. Oh and i always scan with the lid open. I prefer the black background over the white background Here are a few examples A few things to note on some of the scans the glass was dirty, because I didn't really bother cleaning the glass and wiping down the slabs between scans. It's not really noticeable in the small sizes that I use so i didn't bother. Also, the thicker slabs are harder to get the glare off of, as you can see on the Infinity #1.
  18. I got my scanner off of ebay. It didn't come with any of the software at all. I had to download it from the HP site. I have a mac so the installation required a few more steps to get it to work with the current OS but all the other downloads seemed pretty straight forward.
  19. If money weren't an object i'd still get an HP 8300. When it came out a few years back it was a $500 MSRP scanner. Now you probably pay more for shipping than the scanner itself. I scanned a negative with it as well and the result was f-ing amazing in my opinion. I'll post some sample scans and settings in a bit.
  20. I got one a while back. Great investment. I was able to scan close to 60 slabs in a little over an hour with very minimal post editing needed on the images. If all you're doing is photo editing and not necessarily photo manipulation or image creation, take a look at Adobe Lightroom. It's what I use to make minor adjustments to my scans. You should be able to download a 30 day trial form Adobe to give it a try. It is definitely a much cheaper way to go than Photoshop and it's also a great way to organize images. My current workflow is: 1. Scan using the HP scanner software at 200dpi and scan the full image without cropping (I could crop via the HP software but i'd rather handle that elsewhere). 2. Save as a tiff file to a specific folder. 3. In Lightroom have it monitor and automatically add the images from the specific folder. 4. Make minor adjustments and cropping in Lightroom. 5. Export at whatever size I need the files to be depending on how i'm going to use it. The best part about using Lightroom is the fact that it's non-destructive. It won't make any of the changes directly to the file itself. This way if later i want to make a different change to the file, I won't have to rescan.
  21. Verified: 12/5 Graded: 1/2/14 (didn't notice when they were marked "Scheduled for Grading") Grading/Quality Control: 1/7/14 Shipped/Safe: 1/8/14 Forgot to follow up last week when I got my books. In hand: 1/15/14
  22. I converted my garage into my Man Cave. Put up a false wall to block to door (so it looks like a garage from the outside) and a false floor - it works rather well (thumbs u Nice. Have you posted any pics up yet? yeah, picture or it didn't happen.
