  1. $1825 with a little more than an hour to go. Any predictions on where it'll land? My guess is just over $2k.
  2. I searched for a copy of this for 12 years before I finally found a copy. It's exceptionally difficult. The current bid doesn't surprise me at all.
  3. And also search they're username and look at who they were buying from. My brother had a guy stalking him for old real photo postcards and it nearly drove my brother crazy. He spent hours scouring obscure searches only to have this guy swoop in and outbid him every time. My best memories of buying on eBay in the early days were from certain sellers who had incredibly strict grading or were listing warehouse finds and had multiple high grade copies of late SA keys. In regard to GA books, I mostly have regrets at not having snatched up certain books because I thought I could find a better copy later for the same money. Spirit 22 comes to mind where I passed on several copies, only to watch it run away to prices I'm unwilling to pay.
  4. This is the bane of collecting Warrens. Many, many books have this problem and it's a factor of changing cover stock and inks used. The worst ones are where the back cover is black and the front cover is white. Those things are very tough to find without some transfer (Vampirella 34 and 50 are obvious examples). I can't say I've seen it more with Vampirella 5 than other books. However, a lot of the earlier Warrens were printed with higher quality materials and seem less susceptible to this phenomenon.
  5. Another heartbreaking loss. He was one of the new innovative storytellers that got me back into comics in 1999. His work on Spider-Man Blue and Daredevil Yellow was truly inspired and followed in the footsteps of such giants as Alex Toth and Jerry Grandenetti. My thoughts and condolences go out to his friends and family. R.I.P., Tim, you gave us your best work and we'll always be grateful for it.
  6. Man, Bob, you have some really obscure items and knowledge that should really get documented somehow. I'm willing to bet that some of these items have only a dozen or so examples still in existence. Thanks for sharing, as always!
  7. Two seconds after that photo was taken, it did, in fact, fall. But in an act of amazing deftness and dexterity, Oakman caught the Savage Tales as it fell while securing the other books with his right arm. After which, he returned the books to the safe confines of his vault and then made a spectacular meal for his family, providing excellent conversation while they ate. Still, as he sat there with his family, smiling and enjoying his wife and kids, a thought invaded his consciousness- "Sweet Jesus! That was a close call with the Savage Tales!" Feeling thankful for his good fortune, he put the thought away and never thought about it again.
  8. There's a thread devoted to non-comic mags in which I think it would fit just fine.
  9. I'm getting ready to resume listings in this thread. Some nice books coming up. In the short term, I may have misjudged the market for the Thrilling Crime Cases 49. If anyone is interested, I'll do a one time price drop to $4200 until I start listing books again. Feel free to PM with any questions or offers. Thanks for looking!
  10. Here's a few fun covers. For those that are unfamiliar, the interior illustrations are often as cool as the covers, if not more so.
  11. You've got an awesome collection. And it didn't get that way by selling nice books.
  12. In my experience, Overstreet is grossly out of touch with the current market on pretty much every single book with regard to valuations. Pricing many of these books in higher grades (especially Eerie Publications, Stanleys, and Skywalds), is pretty much a toss up. The market on them is still volatile and high grade copies show up haphazardly, at times in venues in which very few magazine collectors are looking (Heritage, etc.). Which unfortunately, just leaves having to search sold listings at various venues but even that isn't a very good barometer. As an example, there was an exceptionally rare copy of a non-Warren comic magazine up for auction with a high minimum bid. But the minimum bid was still a fraction of what that magazine should go for considering how scarce it is in high grade. I picked it up for the minimum bid but I would never sell it for that much and it could be another 10 years or so before a similar copy shows up. So, if you had another copy for sale in the same grade, and you used that sale as a guide, you'd be selling cheap. Wish I had a better answer for you. Perhaps other seasoned collectors can impart more wisdom than I have. I would suggest @oakman29 but that man never sells anything so he's no help.
  13. Gorgeous books, SA! I've never seen that D-29 before but I've liked the couple Frank Gruber novels I've read (The Mighty Blockhead and one other).
  14. I was actually getting close at one point! I still have the one complete set but I've been seduced by other mags lately. Still fun to watch others complete their runs, though.
  15. Nice work, OE! It's a lot of fun watching you knocking these down like this. Almost like vicariously collecting them all again!
  16. Thrilling Crime Cases 49, Former CGC 5.5 OW/W Pages (cracked out), Jon Berk copy. For many, this is the peak L. B. Cole cover. It's one of the Gerber Photo-Journal cover books and there are currently only 53 total copies on the census. Very tough in any condition. This copy has great colors and is structurally very tight. Prices vary widely on this book but I'm listing it here for what I'm willing to let it go for. This copy was one of Jon Berk's comics and comes with the CGC label for provenance. For this book, I'm only accepting bank wire, M.O./cashier's check or personal check. $4900 SALE PRICE: $4200!
  17. I have a bunch more to list but work is calling the shots right now. I'll list one book tonight, however.
  18. Yes, Real War is the other one. I don't think there's another, just those 2. @lbcolefan, have you seen any others?
  19. That seems like the perfect solution. Heck, I'd sell the Hulk 181 as well and get the best copy of FF 5 possible. Hulk 181 is as common as it gets, in pretty much any grade. But a nice FF 5, that's very desirable.
  20. Also, good to see you have your windows in. We have a project that's just breaking ground and the windows are now projected to be 39 weeks for delivery!
