  1. I don't like her face in it. Looks like she's got Green Goblin face. Guardians Of Knowhere #1 Cover D Variant Rob Guillory Gwenom Cover (Secret Wars Warzones Tie-In) Manufacturer/Publisher: Marvel (Release Date: 6/17/2015) Darn. Not a fan at all. Pass. They should have went white Anti-Venom. Damn is that really the final artwork they're going with ? Don't think I like it either..... -J.
  2. I'm going to have to break down and pick one up. It will be my third "Spider-Gwen" book. -J.
  3. Do any of you guys know if/when the "Spider-Gwenom" cover is supposed to drop, and/or what the cover art might be? It will look sick as a companion piece to the ASM 678 VenoMJ. -J.
  4. Yes. Everything else is just chatter to cover that fact up. And yes, your (misplaced) opinion is duly noted. Thank you. (thumbs u -J.
  5. ...for now.... There are "status books" across every comic age. The easiest course of action for you is to simply resolve to not purchase a copy of this one. Then maybe it won't keep you up at night. (thumbs u -J. And, again, if you seek acceptance and "status" through material items, you are in for a frustrating time. "He who dies with the most toys, still dies." When you mock, I see "don't spoil it for us! We're going to make a killing, and who do you think you are to come along and try to inject some reason in the discussion??" which is exactly what happens in every bubble, throughout history. Damn dude you've managed to take this thread completely off the rails. *I* managed...? You and others don't have any part in it...? Again, you're missing the point. It has nothing to do with this book per se, or anybody "cashing in." Where are you reading that? I haven't said anything like that. The point, again, is this: this book is a good exemplar of the irrational exuberance of the current market. There's nothing special about this book; it isn't any popular character's first appearance, it isn't a momentous occasion, it's just a rare variant. It's a cool cover...not to be doubted...but that's all it has going for it: an homage of a historic scene, mashing up two popular characters. When any market spends exuberant amounts of money for an item just because it is rare, that's a classic sign that the market is in a period of irrationality. Except that it doesn't. And there's no need to continually pimp different books with your irrational exuberance, painting a picture that, at best, isn't accurate (as you have done many times), and, at worst, is damaging to anyone who may believe you. There's more than enough irrational exuberance on this board. There needs to be a balance, so that the picture is accurately portrayed. You may not care about people being damaged, as happened in the last crash (and....please note...I'm not saying a crash is imminent, coming, or even likely)....but I certainly do. As always, we are free to post what we wish, within the rules of this board. I don't even know what you're talking about anymore. Nobody is "pimping" anything. Recognize that you are posting in an "appreciation thread" dedicated to "this" book, of which I own a single copy. You have already (repeatedly) registered your objections for what the book sells for. That bothers you. We get it. So don't buy one. Problem solved. -J.

Damn dude you've managed to take this thread completely off the rails. There "might" be 500 copies of this book out there. The one and only guy I know who ever had more than one is Costas, who had a grand total of two. That's hardly enough inventory to affect the overall comic market either way, so where are all of these opportunistic sellers looking to "cash in" going to come from ? By and large, the owners of the existing slabs are not selling. The rarity is part of what's driving the value. As are ASM completists, variant hunters, spoof cover enthusiasts, etc. This is a good old fashioned tent pole book that fires on multiple cylinders. You disagree and that is fine. Your opinions have been noted. No need to continually muck up this thread with your doom and gloom predictions for the entire hobby based on the pittance of copies of this book that are in circulation. -J.

  8. I've seen what you sell. Couldn't agree more. (thumbs u -J.
  9. Don't sell it. You may regret it later. -J. I'll only sell it if it's a 9.6 CGC 9.6 = FML Jerome We should have a pretty good idea in the next 60-90 days how many 9.6/9.8's are really out there. The raw copies seem to have disappeared from ebay and are likely vacationing in Florida right now. By the way here's the original first meeting panel between MJ and Peter the cover references: $100 book or $5000 book, I've always been a fan. It is just plain demented. -J.
  10. In trophy cases? Love it or be bothered by it there are five or six modern variants that got hot and, even after being out for a few years, haven't stopped. This is one of them. There's also that wolverine 1, the 667 dell'otto, then to a lesser extent uxm 510 pyslocke sketch, and siege 3, and that Nabisco wolverine. That's less than ten books out of the thousands and thousands of variants that get released a year. Why this one or that one ? Who knows. But the fact that those books caught lightning in a bottle does not foretell doom for the hobby. Some books just click. -J.
  11. Don't in the cornflakes. It will be so much more fun to laugh at all the "I wish I sold mine before it became a $100 book" posts. A few people were saying the same thing in the Fall of 2012 when it was $900 in 9.8. -J. $900, $5000, $1,000,000, none of that matters. It's all built on a foundation of nothingness. The book isn't worth that kind of money, and the only reason it sells for that kind of money is because GIMME GIMME GIMME!!! And when the bottom falls out, then what? If YOU bought it for $900 and sold it for $5,000, YAY! You won the lottery of comics! Congrats! Now what about all the OTHER "$900 comics" that aren't worth $300 today? Oh, right, we don't talk about those.... A couple dealers and original owners are capitalizing on a book that got hot. Your point ? Would you prefer if nobody sold any copies at all? Or do the two people selling a copy now seem "greedy" to you. What about the other 80 or so people who own a slab that haven't sold, despite the run up, thus causing the shortage in available supply and the spike in prices for what has become a "trophy book" of sorts ? I suppose you would feel they should be commended for their restraint. -J.

  13. The vast majority of them were pretty over the top, part of a short-run title and/or seemingly non-sequitur. Venom was born in the pages of the long running ASM title, throw in the MJ and homage angle with a slightly demented, unexpected twist and there you have it. Plus seeing a "venomized" fantastic four or psylocke doesn't have the same punch as seeing Mary Jane. It seems to follow a similar paradigm of the wolverine/Deadpool mash up cover. If the "Spider-Gwenom" cover actually happens (which would essentially be an homage of an homage of the 678 VenoMJ) and is done with any kind of cleverness as well, I would expect that to be a hit too (so long as 100 copies don't immediately flood ebay the moment it comes out). -J. Hit the nail on the head. Plus certain people like pooches under females belly buttons. Please don't discount that, haha -J.
  14. Ok, I know it doesn't have both " and the staples are on the front which drives some people crazy. And I know I did over pay, but I'm finally back in the club. I am so happy! "FIRST APPEARANCE OF IRON MAN". Nuff said. Nice book Johnny. -J.
  15. ...except there's not 1 million copies of the book. -J. No, and there weren't 1 million copies of the books that were selling for ridiculous money in 1993, either. "Ridiculous" is subjective. People buy what they like. If there are only 500 or so copies of a popular book in existence who's to say? Your thoughts of an impending "crash" are already well documented. This convo is probably best had in the thread you have already started on the subject. (thumbs u -J.

  18. Heritage "sales prices" are not what the sellers net, and the seller's net is not what's reported to GPA, so I get what you're doing there. Thanks for sharing and congrats on your quick sale and to the buyer on a hot pick up. -J.
  19. There's a grand total of 2 right now. Costas' new to market 9.6, and another new to market 9.6 that (Mr. Pawn Stars ) Greg Reece is auctioning off right now (that's at $1500+ after a few hours of bidding). The lone 9.8 that lasted on ebay for less than a day was also new to market and was the first new 9.8 added to the census in nearly a year and the first offered for sale publicly in over a year. The first wave of books we saw were raw copies. Now a few opportunistic sellers who fast tracked their raw copies through CGC are cashing in on the price spike with a few slabs. Seems par for the course to me. (thumbs u -J.
  20. I'm sorry, but what exactly was the significance of this book supposed to be again that is causing it to "heat up"? -J. 4th printing of the first appearance of Boba Fett. So chasing "first appearances" of movie characters in comic books that are adaptations from other media really is a thing now? Speculators must be looking for pretty much anything to buy now. Guess if it worked for Harley Quinn/ BA 12, why not this. -J. He-Man, Transformers, and GI Joe spring to mind, but I am not sure what came first, the show or the comic. All three appeared in the comics before the TV shows. All three were toy properties first and foremost which were licensed to appear in comics as a means to sell toys. They are by no means original comic book properties or creations. (Much like Harley, Boba, etc). (thumbs u -J. They may have been toys first, but the bulk of the names and backstory about them were created by the comics people. http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2006/10/12/comic-book-urban-legends-revealed-72/ http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2006/01/05/comic-book-urban-legends-revealed-32/ This is true to a certain extent, but the fact that these properties are owned (and have always been owned) by Hasbro, et al, pretty much tells you all you need to know about them. These are not comic book properties. They are alternative properties that have been adapted to comic books. (thumbs u -J.
