  1.

In my opinion, that just makes #28 that much more desirable. Maybe I'm crazy...

Yes, he was killed in his first appearance. Quite comically I might ad. If you want to read the story pick up a reader of Shazam #8

So, I guess that makes it two comics in which he appears :baiting:

Some may look at it that way, much like an ad or preview is a 1st. More so it is accepted that a reprint in not a "new" appearance.

Like Where Monsters Dwell #6, it's not widely considered the 2nd Groot, the perception is Hulk Annual #5.

  2.

Keep in mind that the high sale was for $1,250.00 (!!) last year though.

    If I had $1250 laying around I sure wouldn't spend it on a Hulk 271 :P

Seems a little better than Shazam #28.

A second appearance book vs "1 st Bronze age" appearance book. Which is the more perplexing?

The fact that people try to figure out why others pay $x for a book.

If it helps, those are both second appearances.

Your motivation for posting at all? :P

  3. Not to be outdone...

i guarantee this is because of me... i went in there and raid their dollar bin 2 days ago... took 14 copies... and they were like "whats going on with this book?"... i just said i was taking a gamble... same thing happened when i took a huge stack of Morlocks #1... next day the price skyrocketed lol...

    That's funny.

I don't understand the overreaction in price increase however. So he sells a dozen copies for $1 each and that triggers research. That research shows what? Speculation and some $10-15 sales. So raise the price to... $45?? Why? Is their goal to be priced 3-5x higher than the market?

Because they almost always have a coupon code for 40-60% off. Boom, back down to 2x market value.

Huh? They have them listed for $45. 50% off would be $22.50. There was a link posted to one that sold for $24.

  6. The casual fan probably isn't aware of it and it's still pretty affordable.... Then they said it could be the next Hulk 181, So I expected to see some movement.

    Who said that? :insane:

I believe Mike asked and Walt said if they keep up with the GOTG movies he could see it go as high a Hulk 181.

Hulk 271 is getting a bump as I now see raw NM copies selling between $200 - $300. Rocket may be popular with the kids these days, however, I just don't see him being on the same level with Wolverine no matter how many GOTG movies they pump out. The book will still be a Bronze age key for a while, but no where near Hulk 181.

Exactly, Rocket is more trending with toys and younger generations, not established collectors who like Wolverine. Kids are not going to spend $300 on a comic book.

  7. I guess, personally i think people just don't know the difference.

Or they think that putting money towards the first appearance of the character in a book from the bronze age with a Neal Adams cover is a better "investment" than the first appearance of a successor in a book from the modern age where the character appears for a grand total of six issues.

I would agree with that. The movie character cover is pretty bad.

It could also be people who have wanted the book finally pulling the trigger before it gets out of control.

  8. Yes, but what really made me think he may be on to something was this:

Sony has an opportunity to beat Marvel and DC to the punch with sort of a major black comic book movie character. Like I mentioned last week, the e-mails that leaked were perceived to be racist in some quarters. I really think that is going to play into things

They better hurry, John Stewart should show up any time now.

Also, I guess we are just going to forget that Marvel has already targeted two white actors to audition for PP? Maybe they are trying to throw us off the case?

  9. Ok People ! Rant Time ! rantrant

Putting Hard to find or Rare or even Scarce in your Ebay Auction is fine but then you put a pic of 20 copies laying on the floor is counter productive.

This does not give the illusion of Rare or Scarce. This makes the buyers think your full of PooPoo.

    Stop the Madness !

    Great Googly Moogly !

May the Force be with you. meh

If you think 20 or 100 copies of a book means anything, you don't have a firm grasp on what print run numbers actually mean.

  10. I always wonder if there is an satisfied 'end user' for the 'speculated' on books for ultra random characters. I can see people going back for characters that were semi-famous that you might have liked when you were younger, or were part of your favorite team.

But three years from now will there be anyone (who still owns one) that is satisfied they paid $15 for a raw X-Force 19? Or $100 for a CGC 9.8? Or are they all left with the dumbest dealers and speculators holding the bag too long and too hard.

Or are there enough true nerds and/or completionists that have enough disposable income to just pop up on ebay around movie time and say 'hmmm oh that character was pretty cool, I'll just buy a high grade copy for $20 to check out their origin and/or buy an ultra high grade graded copy?' But that same person did not have the foresight to buy earlier, or to wait til later..

So far the only bags I'm still holding is 1st app of Mind-Boggler (still time before the movie) and GOTG 1 2nd print (still 2 more movies coming out), and a few X-Factor 23's.
