  1. Batman #489 penciled and inked by Aparo looks pretty bad. The book is considered "pre-Knightfall" so I don't know if the weak art would affect the price if pages ever went up for auction. I won't even get into the blackhole that is Batman #497, but #498 is Aparo inked by Rick Burchett, a page of which was up for grabs at Hake's last auction, looks more like Aparo. Eighties Aparo is more my bag though.
  2. Ah the digital insert makes sense. I couldn’t see any paste up that’s why I asked. But covers are great, regardless!
  3. Honestly, I don’t doubt the sketches are authentic. I just would prefer a little backstory as to how they came into his possession. Not sure why that’s withheld. That withholding of information doesn’t give me further assurances about aunthenticity (it doesn’t squash the doubt) when paying $5k. On eBay.
  4. The seller has the same Stan and Jack story for his other overpriced sketches. It’s a bad ploy to sell dubious art.
  5. What I want to know is what’s an “Alf Theragones?” Kidding aside, it’s a great cover. Not many of those in collections.
  6. It’s tough to say. I’ll see art for sale on CAF or on these boards for a fixed price which no one moves on then they hit the auction block only to get half or less of asking. Always exceptions of course. But what attributes to the discrepancy? Hard to say. I think I return to what is preached here on the boards, the A-stuff will climb and the middle of the road stuff will dwadle. I’m more conservative and expect the piece to depreciate off the lot than think it’s now worth double the next day like flippers do.
  7. Just curious, so does HA still accept credit cards? There were talks earlier in the thread that that option didn’t appear anymore.
  8. And the GD title of the magazine prevents you from playing du mb. Thanks HA.
  9. See Mitch’s announcement in this thread. Sale only applies to select pieces. Click on the thumbnail and you’ll see an “old price” and a “new price,” to @Blastaar There is a Hulk cover for under $1k.
  10. Cool page. But I’m intrigued. Who was he in the movie (which movie?)? I don’t recognize him.
  11. I don’t know about Black Friday but Cadence Comic Art and Felix Comic Art usually has a holiday sale between BF and the end of the year. But I don’t take for granted that it happens every year. Just check the major rep sites daily.
  12. I see where you’re coming from but I give the benefit of the doubt to the artist that there’s no intention to manipulate the market. He may simply be that good with that level of demand.
  13. I was part of the quasi-discussion. As far as I can tell, the price has befuddled American collectors. I certainly would like to hear the European explanation, ahem, perspective. As a disclaimer, I’ve never heard of the artist so I’m operating on a lot of (likely erroneous) assumptions.
  14. I just heard about Designer Con. An artist I made acquaintance with over the years of attending cons, Mark Bodē and his wife Molly, were there selling cobalt-60 and Cheech Wizard merch. I wish I could’ve gone. How I miss Cali. Thats’s cool looking Xenomorph. The sketch is perfectly in tune with your theme, consumption consuming itself.
  15. Alex, congratulations on your sale. Yours is every consignors’ dream come true, to have that art smash expectations. And for it to be art you weren’t in love with that provided you with a few grails, all the better. Well, it seems that HA’s estimate arrived short too, so I don’t feel too bad for giving you a poor estimation. You just don’t know. Just saw some art auction for 1/5 of what the seller was originally hoping for outside of the auction house market, yet it was less than what I was willing to pay. Sometimes it’s a matter of the right bidders showing up, a lesson I’ve learned from the sages of these boards. Such a gamble. I have to say, after visiting your website, I feel funny giving OA estimate to the guy whose book I clearly remembered and enjoyed flipping through at the San Francisco MoMA years ago. It was Now and Then. (Sorry I didn’t buy it; then, I didn’t have the living space to accommodate so many books.) Do sell your art? Just wondering what’s your experience on the other side of the table.
  16. Just saw this and dropped my jaw. $26k for a panel page published this year from a book I’ve never heard of (but that says more about me than it). Beautiful artwork but man that’s a huge chunk of change.
  17. Wow. Not too long ago the consignor came onto the boards asking for an estimate. I said the floor on that is $4k but I couldn't see it break 5 figures because there's no Wolverine on it. Most people agreed with me though one or two said it was a 10K page. I was way off but at least I covered myself and said that with auctions, you never know. I can't seem to find the thread. The OP then said that he wanted to keep it regardless of value. I guess the temptation was too strong. But like you say, What a ridiculous hobby.
  18. What was Amazing Adventures’ original price tag on that Hulk 330? 65k? It’s funny how I forgot since I’d see that cover in person every other month for a few years. That cover is just *a tad* more impressive in person than an online scan though that might not be saying much. Of course, when I asked to see the cover up close the seller treated me like a common thief. This is the same seller who has that really nice Bernie Wrightson Star-Lord pin-up. Maybe that’ll go up on auction. All neither here nor there.
  19. This problem started for me yesterday too. I've never had it happen before. At first, I thought it was because I had a Buzzfeed article open. Even after closing it's still happening. I don't want to download adblockers because this has never been a problem before. I hate to think that CAF is allowing these ads to pop up.
  20. Freakin sweet pages. I can’t believe you sold off a majority of your pages though. Don’t you have a really great collection???
