Getting miffed about one purchase is the sure way to insanity. I purchase on ebay all the time and while "I can't find it" isn't the most common nuisance, the amount of mis-graded, not-as-described, nonsense will drive a soft soul nuts. Move on.

The #1 third printings can sell for 60-70 easy in high grade. Second printings have more traction because their print run was much smaller than the third. First printings are where the focus is. Sounds like you got a good deal on all of them, assuming you bought them recently. But I wouldn't read them especially the ones in higher grade. Every less-than-careful touch sends their value down. Just find the books online or get a reprint to get the story. The first run is classic and has some of my favorite storylines.

The 9.6 on HA Just closed at the same $26,290. Very big day for TMNT #1 valuations. We'll see if price confirmation comes in other higher-grade copies when they are for sale.

I sell a lot on the bay and I would never refund a buyer when item is shown as delivered in tracking. I've gotten sob stories of all kinds and my response is, I'm sorry to hear that but let's go through ebay's process and handle this correctly. In the two cases where this has been an issue, both have been decided in my favor (seller). These items were $150 and slightly less if I recall so not $700 like yours but I don't know that ebay requires signature above any dollar value for the listing.

I've always wondered how things would go down if one wanted to get a valuable book signed and you've spelled it out. Congratulations. I assume CGC takes this into account and removes the old number from their registry (and at the same time keeps the count at that grade the same)?

Can you go into a little more detail on how this person was caught? In my experience, they do scan emails very carefully for exchange of contact information. But unless you say you want to bypass them its not like they have any proof of this. Then you keep the listing but raise the price to something no one would ever pay. End the listing after a month or two.

In the big scheme of things the higher grades have had a looooong arc of price increases, much more so than the lower grades. I get it, more people can afford the 6, 7 and 8's. You see the same thing with the ASM and AF15 demand. I have no idea what the equilibrium price is of the high grades but just sheer availability dictates these to be higher than current prices (again, comparatively). Anyone have GPA on the 9.6? I thought it was 12-14K before this.

All I can say is. Wow. This 9.6 (again, not mine) is at $21, 510! ($18K + buyer's premium). I think the last 9.6 high was around $14K so this is a huge increase. Ends 11/18.

Ah, well offers are not consummated sales and shouldn't be counted as such, just like asking prices. Unless it closes it isn't a sale. That particular copy appears to have been sold at HA in 2012 for $17K, then the owner apparently was open to offers in 10/16 with an asking price set at $50K. I don't think $50K is too far away but we're not there yet.

Surprisingly low? It sold for $27K! That was the highest ever recorded to my knowledge for a 9.8.

Anyone who sells on ebay knows how difficult it is to be a seller there. And it gets only harder as time goes on. More fees and most of the power lies in buyers' hands. He can handle this any way he chooses. Clearly this buyer is telling a BS story and has the tiny inconvenience of a strike coming to him. That said, to save the headache and drama I would handle this a little differently. Cancel all the bids and add this buyer to my blocked list. If I were feeling especially vindictive I would put a comment on the "Blocked ebay users" thread here.
