  3. Just thought i'd share what i did last year on FCBD and give credit to a great comic store owner named Earl. Last year i was in the Army living in Killeen TX, my local comic store was Americas Heroes and the owner's name was Earl. He told me about a month out that he was trying to get Sam De la Rosa for an in-store signing on FCBD, I was excited. Yeah he was no Mcfarlane or Lee but at least he tried to get someone. I went home, went on eBay an secured me a NM copy of Venom LP #1. All the other bigger chain stores in Austin had some of the hotter current names in the business, but me being a vintage collector i was excited about Sam. Earl would tell me for the next four weeks every time i came in his store, that he was trying to get a CGC rep or to have them authorize him to be a witness. It never happend, but hey at least he tried. FCBD was upon us, I didnt get to the store at 10 right when it opened, maybe an hour or two into it. When i got there it was a pretty good turn out, I was proud of Earl. Sam had a little set up in the corner of the store, he didn't charge anything for his signature and had some original artwork and pre-signed stuff for sale at reasonable prices. I got my comic signed and bought an 18 x 30 pic of Venom that he signed for free, which i put in a black frame and it looks AWESOME. Of course I'm envious that Kaholo got his Venom #1 SS'd but hey, I was happy with what i got.I currently live in Chula Vista CA now, everybody is waiting for the SDCC. Big city, lots of comic stores, but it doesn't measure up to my small town comic store back in Texas and my boy Earl who tried his best to do something special for his customers. Thanks for reading. 4. I think i might be a little too strict on my vintage grading.... Hey everybody, I thought i'd share my grading results for 4 of my vintage Marvels i submitted through my LCS way back in March. All blue labels. Iron Man #10/ I thought this would be my best one. I thought 8.0 at the very least, possible 9.0. It was graded 8.5, I'll take it. I bought it on eBay with 4 other silver age Marvels for $25 total, already sold the other 4 for more than 25. Avengers #27/ I thought 7.5-8.0, It was graded an 8.5. I was very happy. Avengers #28/ I thought 8.0, it was graded a 9.0, yes!!!! I bought the pair of Avengers comics on eBay together for $34 total advertised 8.0 VF. Incredible Hulk #182/ This is the one I was unsure of, cuz it had the stamp on the cover. I thought it anywhere from 7.5 to 9.2, it got a 9.2. This was my second submission, my first being the 3 Sigs from Dallas comic-con. I've been very happy with both results. In closing I just want to say I enjoy this site and I find myself everyday checking for more good journals to read and great comics to look at. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 5. just thought i'd ask.... I'll be 28 in December, been collecting since '95, got a wife and daughter. I'm currently an active duty soldier, been in the military 6 1/2 years, got a year left. I just got into CGC comics around this time last year. I look at some of these collections and they've got numerous comics it would take me a year to payoff. Well folks, I'd like to get out of the Army in a year, don't really know exactly what career i want to pursue. I was just wondering if some of you would like to share some of your careers with me and maybe some thoughts on how they've meshed with you being a comic collector, thanks. - Yardley To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here.
