  1. The difference I see is that store exclusives have very limited availability, unlike the other books that you mention, which weren't really intended to be a limited collectible. It might be different if the number of exclusives was limited to one retailer per issue, but that's not the case. Often, a book will have exclusive covers available for a large number of retailers. I think any exclusive that holds demand down the line will be because the content of the cover is highly desirable, whether it's because of the cover artist, or a first cover appearance of a character that takes off later, etc.
  2. FWIW, I got the three books back, and no need to send any back again. So we capped at 26MEs for the 25 books.
  3. Toonces, the cat who invested in comics.
  4. If you're short on money, 129 is going to be the toughest. Then 101, which is 2/3 the price, but also is pretty scarce in 9.8-graded copies.
  5. It's crazy that in the top 50 books submitted, there's 1 indy (Spawn), 3 DC (Killing Joke, Omega Men 3 & Batman Adventures 12), and the other 46 are all Marvel.
  6. I've got 7 of the top 10, and 14 of the top 20. Including a bunch of multiples.
  7. It's probably Spider-man 1 (Silver Edition); almost 11K. X-Men 1 is close, but the census doesn't differentiate between the 4 connecting covers.
  8. Is that the DC Warlord character, or something else? I think the random requests just shows that there are still people out there trying to complete runs of whatever it is that appeals to them.
  9. I am human because I do the human things like go to the football and buy windshield wipers at a store.
  10. An article with 72 examples: https://vocal.media/geeks/super-smash-covers-72-times-comic-book-logos-got-absolutely-demolished
  11. I just realized this a few years ago (it maybe would have been more obvious if I had been collecting at the time, but I didn't start reading comics until a few years later), but on this cover, BRB destroys the decades-old logo, necessitating the implementation of a new logo on the cover of the next issue. I don't know if there are other examples of that.
  12. Since you're aware that the book is out there with an incorrect label, would CGC consider not only removing the pedigree info from the database (which you've done), but also including some sort of notation that the label is wrong, so it's clear to someone looking it up what the situation is (since CGC can't force the return of the book)?
  13. I sent in a batch of 25 books in May. When I got them back, I had to send 10 back for ME. All of them had cracks in one side of the case, in the same spot, suggesting there was some sort of mechanical issue with their encapsulator that was perhaps applying too much pressure? All of these except one was an oversized book, with the thicker case. 40% failure rate on this submission. When I got back the ME submission, 8 of those 10 had various issues, including different cracks, or debris encapsulated with the book. 80% failure rate on those books. When I got back the second ME submission, 4 of the 8 had some severe scuffing on the case, and another was cracked. I usually let a little scuffing go, but these were 9.8 books, and the scuffing made it look like the book was damaged or dirty. 62.5% failure rate on those. Just got back those 5. 3 of the 5 have plastic shards inside. One of those shard is more than an inch long. Not sure how you miss those. So those will be going back. 60% failure rate. If the trend holds. I'll need to send 2 of the 3 books back again, and then 1 of those 2 the next time. Then I guess it's a coin flip whether that one has no issues.
  14. Rarely. If you bought the NYCC Exclusive of the Enormous #1 (Second print) and got it graded at 9.8, you could have flipped that for about $500. (Not so much now, since the option fell through.) Convention exclusives that were panel giveaways can be worth money. The Black Panther Campbell partial sketch variant was a convention exclusive giveaway. And I just got this at NYCC this year: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=spawn+universe+sampler&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1
  15. Since it appears to be created on a typical board for comic art, I would guess that it's a house ad, rather than art for a magazine or other non-comic size publication
  16. That contrast *might* just be a limitation of the coloring production process pre-computer coloring.
  17. Is there something I'm missing about the color? His right arm above the elbow looks like it's bent into two segments, and the left one looks too long, but I figured since this is a thread about coloring, it's not the anatomy that's the reason for posting this.
