I feel stuck in a paypal conundrum where it is just plain the safest. It limits me but it seems I may just have to live with that and keep it small. Money Orders may not be an option for me. On my end as a potential buyer though it is usually the higher priced books that I am looking at here , so what you are saying is doing business that way is really REALLY going out on a limb as a buyer. I do appreciate that insight and also what you said about eating the fee, that being the only fee here as opposed to eBay where the fees just seem to multiply.

Hi to all. I have bought and sold here on the boards a few times and been pretty happy and grateful to do so. I was hoping that for future reference if people could give me advice on how to buy and sell here using money orders. I know it might seem obvious to those who already know the ins and outs but how do I go about it safely? I mean sort of like who goes first type of stuff. Do I send it or do they send or ship first or whatever? I have seen some books here in threads that I would like to buy and money order is often offered. I also would like to be able to offer it as an option in any future sales threads but only if I can feel confident in it as a payment method. I hope this is an acceptable forum to post this topic, since I am hoping to buy and sell comics. FWW I paid my rent for 10 years using money orders because I always felt they were a very safe method of transacting so I am pretty familiar with them and prefer USPS MO's. Just saying. Thanks.

Plus it looks like the information being displayed in the hover is both redundant and superfluous. Why do I need a bigger version of that to pop-up in front of me, just to block my view?

Really not that much has changed. It just looks like a more advanced graphic over lay. It's just more GUI. Although it seems like it might be harder for people to stalk one another here than it used to be.

I agree . The hovering pop-up thing is annoying. Nice to see the info displayed but still inhibits and slows down browsing.

What I liked about the old board format was it was easier to scan. What I mean is if I followed the recent activity feed, every so often a subject that interested me would pop-up and I could latch onto it, read, post and go about my business. Occasionally I could check back in to see if the thread was hot or not. Now my eyes do not know where to go, but I assume I will assimilate with enough time. The two formats are not so dissimilar.

I know this is a topic that is asked and touched upon many times and I have familiarized myself with it in the years since I created my post but does anyone have any experience making a claim? Not that I doubt the company but I was just thinking a little deeper on the matter and sort of came to a further conclusion. That being in most cases insurance never covers the entire cost of something. I had a friends house burn down with tons of art in it and although the family got money the did not get enough to cover everything. So my question would be, is it legal to have 2 separate insurance policies on one collection of comics. For example in an effort to get what my collection is worth in case it is ever destroyed could I have a rider on my my home insurance and a separate policy through collect insure? I mean if I had a rare automobile like a Pantera or the first Mercedes or something I would need insurance on the auto as a collectible and then another policy in order to legally drive the car on the highway. I realize the example is a little flawed but it is not all that far fetched. So is it legal , could I do that? Would I be able to get a fully reimbursed if so ? Would that be the best way? Thanks.

I guess I will assume you are new to the boards and have not learned how to use the quote function yet and that you are speaking to me Not sure where you got that the tear goes through the entire book. Maybe assuming from comiqu's un-replied to post with no feedback from the OP? So assuming the tear goes through the book, no way is it 9.0. An 1/8 inch tear on a book with no other major flaws? I do not see why not 9.0 or at least close. Not a 7.0 either with that as the only flaw.

Although it has been implied I have not heard anyone mention the fact that learning to grade comics can actually be a lot of fun too. Just saying.

I think it is lazy for the most part. It says to me the seller does not care enough about the comics to take a look at them and give a rudimentary guess at the condition. Further it can divulge any hidden defects not shown in photos. Now if it is a book that is $3 in mint condition and you are selling a lot then it would be ok and I would even assume that the grading may be a bit loose. You could be off by a few grades and it will not amount to but less than a dollar in that case. On the other hand if it is a book that is 3 figures or more buyer and seller need to be more astute. Even still noone should demand a seller to be %100 spot on with a grade and if so it can mark an irrational buyer. In that case if you nailed it and gave it the grade CGC gives, it is just luck. It is reasonable to expect that you should be within reason is all. While I do not buy into the whole"grading is subjective" thing there are slightly different standards professionally speaking( CGCvs.OGGvs.CBCSvsPGXvs.Ebayvs.CC)and so on and so on. If you are selling raw books you need to at lease take a swing and be in the ball park IMO.

If I recall someone did have a "$10,000 what if question" a while back regarding the Silver age. Totally hypothetical in my case. There was also a comics versus stocks thread a while back and the comic involved was OAAW# 83 if I can recall correctly . Just saying.

Get a high grade ASM #300 newsstand edition (barcode on the cover). The prices might be about the same today... but down the road, people will start realizing they're about 1-out-of-30 compared to direct editions (spidey head on the cover). Thank you for the suggestion. This is along my lines of thinking as it is only a 9.6 there needs to be something else special about it. White pages or newsstand edition would make it more noteworthy in those terms. A 9.8 is just too far out of my price range right now on a book from that era .

90 day GPA average: $6233 Better than one of your biotech stocks no? Better than most, but not better than all of them. And not better than a bunch of them when taking into consideration the scale of the investment that is possible. You just couldn't make that same return on investment by trying to buy and sell tens of thousands of dollars of Hero For Hire #1s in cgc 9.6. Right figured a 6+ bagger is not too shabby for the most part You have a good point also on the supply side with respect to liquidity. The only slabs I can think of off hand that have the population and "daily" ability to make a market in for multiple buyers without tanking the price would be an ASM 300 or NM 98. So in regards to the topic of this thread can I get some adivce? I am looking at buying an ASM #300 in 9.6. I can get a CGC 9.6 White off white for $375 or I can get a CBCS 9.6 White pages for $450. Down the road long term which will I be happier with when I try to move it? CGC one. Duh Do you say that based solely on price?

No it's not free they want me to pay which I said no. This might be a good way to reestablish with your parents. It may not last forever but from what you are describing you are about to hit a wall hard and fast. It is clear they want you to stand on your own and the more of a buffer you have the better will be your quality of life. I have been through all of this. Alot of people on here avoid talking about how harsh reality is but you are in a position that life could become worse than you ever imagined. Kiss comic books goodbye , living in a shelter you will be lucky if no one robs you. It is a downward spiral from there. In order to support yourself all you are going to be doing is working, working and working some more.

Yes, but would the 2 best copies posted be 10's when compared to the first photos which might be 9.8 or 9.6(or below)? You said it yourself that you looked at 50 copies and found only 2 that "pretty". That sort of fits the definition of scarce, which should be reflected in the CGC census. I understand the OP questioning how much a production flaw can detract from a books grade and I see how it leaves the door open to alot of inconsistency. It seems like the difference between condition and presentation. Does CGC grade a books condition ? or its presentation? And does that top spine split detract from the condition all that much? Opinion here would say it takes away from the presentation greatly. I feel hammering a books grade based on presentation is just too inconsistent to be relied on. Yes a I can see why it would affect selling price of a given grade but it is those minutia that make the difference during a sale in the end. I also feel that the different ages are on a different grading scale in terms of production flaws and should be weighted accordingly.

So if the goal is to buy and sell a million dollar comic why not get a job save up a million dollars , buy the comic and then sell it? If you are trying to make a million dollars selling comics...well the last few posts should measure out the math on that and as for the number of people who have made millions on comics the odds of that are as good as winning the lotto if you ask me. Do you think that comic book collecting is some sort of cash cow?

This makes sense. I made the thread originally with keys in mind, and everything on that list right now are holy grails to me. I'll edit the name to reflect the direction this thread is heading. Again, I'm a little noobish still. Have been collecting mostly moderns in the last 2+ years, and I'm ready to start on some key collecting. Alot of this information is currently in print in the annual OPG in list form. Also GSXM #1 and X-men #94 could go on your list. Off the top of my head the list you have compiled would go for around 5 million $ right now.

I thought it was Dazzler #1 I was going to ask that as well but Dazzler was when Direct became mainstream if you will. Was it Carol Kalish that started that? It existed before then.

Our Army at War #83 Sgt. Fury #1 Sgt. Fury #13 This list might make a little more sense if you sub-divided a little. For example you have "keys" mixed with " grails" mixed with " Holy grails" which are the corner stones of collecting. Just saying.
