I also noticed the younger more hip crowds at shows, my wife reminds me no matter how cool others are coming into the hobby I am still a nerd. Granted they tend to gravitate to areas of the show I do not but it is still good to see. I have often thought about the generational changes coming. For me the nostalgia is beyond what the movies share or promote. Today's generation is definitely robbed of standing in gas stations and drug stores drooling over spinner racks that introduce you to characters beyond movies (which we did not have).

On topic CL prices on books I planned on snagging this round were above last few sales. I was shooting for that Showcase 6 thinking DC was still off the radar but got sniped at the end by $100.Did grab a Steranko cover I wanted well below planned spend, but so far only have three wins on about 15 serious bids.

Your wife sounds like my wife.

Man, I haven't been to Arby's since last century. They got anything good there?

I've found Arby's bacon, turkey Market Fresh sandwich ok. I have at least one a year.

How many employees does CGC have, approximately?

I remember when the minimum wage in Florida was $3.35 an hour.

My first purchased comic book was when I was with my mother in an AM/PM in Chicago and I was allowed to purchase a Marvel Premiere #30 (Publication Date: June 1976) featuring the Liberty Legion, Invaders and the Red Skull.

Before that, I had read my older brother's comics he purchased mainly from the train station (the "L") along with what are now discarded Silver Age comics he found or had been gifted.

I would not actually read Marvel Premiere #29, the first part of the story, until many years later. doh!

And both of those issues crossed over with Invaders 5 and 6 or was it 6 and 7?

  4. My comic collecting started in the 70s when my dad plopped an Invaders 22 on my bed. I was instantly hooked.

Growing up in Panama City, Florida, at that time, I'd go to Money Haven every Saturday to look for new and back issues. I also ordered Howard Rogofsky's catalogue and ordered a number of back issues from him.

I started with Invaders and Captain America but eventually expanded to Peter Parker, Uncanny X-Men, and Daredevil. Sold my collection in 1985 to pay for college, but I've re-collected most of what I had back in the day.

This might not be what you are gunning for, but Haunted Thrills 14 has a horror story where a homeless man finds Gabriel’s Trumpet and summons the dead, resulting in Jesus coming back to send the undead back to their graves.

That, actually, is exactly what I'm looking for. Any appearance of Jesus, reverent, irreverent, in history, out of history, literal, metaphorical. Thank you.

  6. Thanks, everyone. This is really helpful. I knew about David C. Cook's stuff, but I didn't realize it had gone that far back. I have a book collecting his Jesus narratives, but its copyright page says 1978. The style of art should have given it away. Good info.

I knew about the E.C. stuff, Sunday Pix, and Treasure Chest, too, but the "Of Such Is the Kingdom," "In Love with Jesus," and "The Life of Christ" are completely new to me. I really appreciate the pointers.

    Are you talking covers only?

I am actually doing research. I'm in the early, early just thinking about it stage, so I'm just trying to identify potential sources for now. I'm considering writing something on Jesus in comics. I've presented some papers on the topic, and I've written a little about Christianity in manga and will have a chapter in a book dealing with Daredevil's Catholicism (Netflix's Daredevil) coming out later this year or sometime next. So, it's a topic I'm interested in. Just trying to get a feel for the lay of the land at this point.
