  1. I don’t blame them either. Nor do I get upset. (Depending on their attitude). Frankly, I don’t like haggling any way either as a buyer or seller. The price I ask is what I need to get for it. Why mark it up just to lower my price. People don’t do it in a restraunt or any established retail business. When I get a whiner that tells me “it isn’t worth that” I ask them to take the item to 7-11 and try and get a carton of milk for it. Now that we have established that it isn’t worth anything to 99% of the world, what is it worth to the buyer or the seller? But this is the collectible business, I get the dance. I have quoted my price. In a poker game it is up to the next player to make a move. I had a guy try and kick me down on some nice PCH on Saturday. These are the hottest books on the planet right now and virtually impossible to replace. I had looked through his boxes and his average PCH was priced literally 4 times what I was asking for similar material. He, of course, picked out two of my best ones and offered half my asking price. I told him I had seen his prices and decided mine were more than fair. He gave me a pitiful look and started whining about something I don’t remember. I just took them back and said I changed my mind and will just keep them. You should have seen the look on his face... I don’t like this guy anyway and obviously no body else did either. He sat over by himself not selling anything and hardly anybody spoke to him. You don’t like my price, make a fair offer or look for the next disperit sucker...
  2. This seller has been stellar with me and we are working out the problem. It really has gotton to be a carp shoot though. I mean really, hardly any of us are "professional graders" If you don't know how or are scared to (which I can understand), Take a few minutes to do a full description of the book, provide enough clear photos and stand behind your auction with a solid return policy. Anything else is a lazy cop out and not worthy of my hard earned money no matter how tempting.
  3. It appears that he did all the Weird Terrors as well...
  4. These Mertons are interesting as none of them seem to share the covers of the originals.
  5. I have had this coverless copy of Flash #104 for probably 40+ years and never been able to find a cover. Probably never will but it is such a great book none the less. Scarce last issue, origin Flash retold, and great Kubert Hawkman!
  6. I get “what is your best price?” a lot. I usually reply “what is your best offer?”. I figure, I’ve already shown my card and now it’s your turn. You are the one who has the problem with my price, not me. I also get the question “can you do better?” My reply is usually “yes”. The real grinder for me is “what is the lowest you will do?”. If I really want to sell it I might reply with my lowest price. Then you get the “OK, will you do...?” That usually shuts my door and I go on ignore. The whiners, REALLY shut me down. Another one is the people who point out the flaws for a deal. I usually tell them the price reflects it. If they are persistent, I might ask them why they would want it if they don’t like the condition? I’ve been doing this a long time. I have probably seen and heard it all...
  7. Boy, the ultimate in cheap. Speedy Rabbit #1 and #14 are the same cover with just different coloring.
  8. Origin of boardie Qua-Brot and his pal Spa-Fon...
  9. If any of you super secret LA boardie lurkers want to know about the next meet up, PM me and I’ll get you on the list. Don’t worry, I won’t out you...
  10. As Superman Tim club members, you were also given cool, super secret, decoder membership cards and buttons!
  11. I know there are several cool 1940's ones that I don't have. If anyone has any not shown here, I'd love to see them!
  12. Last one I've got today is this simple one color 4 pager given in the 1958 Superman Halloween costume. Kind of scarce.
  13. In 1955 Kelloggs offered these 3 as in box premiums to hungry breakfast eaters...
  14. On to the 1950's Kelloggs gave this one out inside cereal boxes in 1954. Has 2 stories from Superman #55
  15. Here is a nice one with a slick cover given out by Gilbert with Erector sets in 1948
  16. Here is a group of Superman Tim giveaways. These were given out by local clothing stores to kids from 1942-1950. You were also able to obtain membership cards and pinback buttons as well. Here is a handfull of the ones I have.
  17. Was going through the junk pile this weekend and found a bunch of old Superman giveaway comics. This one is Overseas Comics distributed to the US Armed forces. Each issue had full pages of the current newspaper characters including Superman. This is #27 a 1944 issue.
  18. At this point, I don’t know that it ever needs to be in “print”. I would be happy to just have it complete and on line. Problem is that the authors are never really going to get much if any financial gain for doing it. Pretty much a labor of love that gets on the way of their day jobs.
  19. That book slabbed is a crime. Lucky for you, you have the great reprint book to enjoy all that Feldstein genius!
  20. Shad, if your pin looks like the one in the lower left corner it is probably the 1939-1940 one. From left to right in bottom row are 1939-1950, 1948, 1955 and 1961. The small one at top was used for a few months in 1942 I believe to save money for the war effort. The one next to it on the right is the British 1960's version. (only one I know of). Hope this helps...
  21. Ah, shucks... Me love you long time Ray. You’re not bitter at all. Is this the ring you are talking about? It originally came with red enamel but sadly, most of mine is gone. Happy to have it anyway...
  22. I have actually had a little better luck finding pulps rather than older comics at antique stores, flea markets and estate sales the past couple of years. Now mostly sci-fi and western but have picked up some crime, Weird Tales and others as well.
