  1. Killer book huh Ray? ‘Ole Robot Man never steers you wrong!
  2. Looks like the 1939-1940 one although the picture is coming out a bit distorted. The button is how you can tell. Got a better pic of it? There were a lot of them issued and are still around. Either way, $200. Although not a steal, is still a very fair price.
  3. Thanks. Although I have no hope of ever finding the covers, I am stoked to have it at all. I had Jerry Robinson sign the Joker splash a number of years ago at SDCC. The story how I got it was amazing. Probably the best comic find I've ever had in the wild...
  4. My LCS does not sell back issues or vintage stuff. Just current stuff, action figures, t-shirts and I guess magic cards. I no longer buy moderns just supplies once in a while. Nice, clean, friendly store but not a place where people congregate. Just in and out. I like the place and it is convenient for my needs but it wouldn't affect me it they went away. There is an area near buy that at one time had probably 20 antique malls, a comic store with some back issues and a vintage record store. Most have been driven out due to high rents and either replaced by little restraunts or remain empty. Bums me out as I used to find lots of stuff in that area. No comic stores in my area (LA) that carry any significant amount of back issues (especially GA or SA). At least there are a decent amount of used record stores around to scratch my vinyl itch.
  5. I didn’t know there was a Bill Elder collection. I have a few from Johnny Craig’s collection as well as a Kurtzman and Feldstein file copy.
  6. Gotta post my pick-up today. Been after the right copy at the right price and today was the day!
  7. ‘Ole Robot Man didn’t leave empty handed either. Two books I’ve wanted bad for quite some time! Very fun day guys. Glad you could all make it. This is a fun way to get to know collectors in your area. More of you out of LA guys should try this in your area.
  8. Remember I said the day started with a bang? Well, it ended with a grand slam! Cosmic #2 that I think the submitter did real well on.
  9. A happy buyer went home with a Joker classic and a “Paul” copy to boot. I had the chance to originally buy this for a price that would make you sick but my good buddy Jim Maley got instead. At the time, I wasn’t too bummed because the stack I took home that day MORE than made up for it. Watch the bay, it is sure to turn up there soon and it could be yours. Wow!
  10. No comic gathering would ever be complete without the king of SA comics...
  11. Remember when you would never have seen a pretty girl any where near comics?
  12. The boards own Dream2Real1 (Pablo) co-organized this affair and brought some cool stuff. Thanks for finally talking me into going Pablo!
  13. Just got home from a little Saturday comic book meet up. Buy, sell, trade. Just local guys and a few gals too. Everything from Moderns on up. A fun time was had by all and pretty much everybody went home with some books and s little extra “folding money”. Day started out with a bang!
  14. There were so many MAD immatiors back in the day. Cracked was probably the top contender. There were other high lights but most paled in comparrison to the real thing...
  15. This is an undercopy. I got it from Ritchie Munchin at a show pretty cheap because it had a little resto. Because of that, I broke all my rules and had Al Feldstein deface it a little further...
  16. I will see your EC fan addict kit (with all the bulletins)... and raise you a set of "ghoulantic" photos in the original mailer! Sorry, I don't do free apprasials. Google is your friend...
  17. I have never been scared to read any of my comics. I have some raw Church books I’ve read several times. You just have to know how to handle them and be real careful. I do like low grade and coverless books though. I feel a lot more comfortable with them.
  18. All 3 are stellar fifties. I do have a sentimental favorite though. I got a small pile of ECs from my uncle as a kid. My first real exposure to them. That Crypt #23 was a real stand out and shook me up. Still at the top of the heap for me today!
  19. Thanks, at first I thought it might turn into an “ego fest” with everyone just trying to one up the next guy. But as it has progressed I can see the real love and passion we all have for this stuff. Nice to see the diversity. Just about every genre represented. High grade, low grade and everything in between. No one should feel their books don’t deserve to be here. Keep ‘em coming!
  20. It’s amazing how great these early Looney Tunes covers really are. Some of the best ever of the funny animal genre!
  21. Glad to see this thread revived. So many awsome and beautiful books being shown. A humble guy like me can only live vicariously through you guys! And kind of funny, I look back on my original post and still see very little I would change. I guess if you really love some books they just stay with you...
