  1. Near as I can tell he started around 1958 or so. Looking at the picture of the characters will give you a good idea. I used to have a couple plastic rack hangers with him on them from late '50's-early '60's but can't find them right now. I do have this cool DC promo glass that I got from famous Superman collector Danny Fuchs many years ago. He said it was an internal DC promo piece given to artists and executives.
  2. I wouldn’t go Epson. I’ve had two that were decent but crapped on me within a couple years. I’d go with the HP 8300. I’ve had it for over 5 years works great and can be had used pretty cheap.
  3. I have found that in LA the best area for picking garage sales in South Central or Mid City. Most folks are a little intimidated to go there and you have very little competition. Lots of old houses from the 1920’s-1960’s. Got a Latin friend who lives there and picks up a lot of great stuff for me there. So that would probably “Old Brown and Black Money”
  4. Fun little haul! Man, I rarely see vintage comics at garage sales any more. Gotta go to the older areas of town I guess.
  5. I doubt that would ever happen. Terry isn't much about talking about the "old daze" or maybe he doesn't remember. He has always been a real quiet guy. I don't get the feeling he cares much about the past. Nor does David T Alexander. But he's got stories when he opens up. Most people don't realize the impact those two along with Carl Macek of the American Comic Book Co. made on fandom. They were brilliant marketeers. They coined the phrase "Good Girl Art" and introduced the concept of bondage covers, decapitation, violence as well as "esoteric" comics to market their wares. I was pretty friendly with them in the day. I would go to the store and go in the back room. There were literally piles and boxes full of SA and GA books all over the place. People were walking in the door daily selling them nice stuff. I remember seeing a pile of maybe 50 Timelys just sitting in a stack un-bagged that had just walked in and they hadn't had time to process. They were the "rock stars" of comic dealing in LA. Great parties with actual attractive women at them. Terry is all over the small shows and flea markets now days. I see him a lot. He is a very unique guy. As are many old timers in this business. I guess it is what makes this such a colorful hobby. Redbeard is also another guy that has stories. He was there at the dawn of the SF and Church collections and hung with Terry and David a lot. I got him to come on the boards finally and he was on here for a while but has slipped back.
  6. Yeah, it sure does. I just around to looking at it. It has interior art by Finlay, Schomburg and Jack Binder as well as an ad for the "Science Fiction League" club. Now I got to find the swag you got when you joined. This one is a winner all the way around!
  7. How ‘bout a little tree spanking? And a “Paul” copy to boot.
  8. Love this cover. A beautiful copy with a perfect spine from 1939.
  9. Here’s what I picked up. Everything, came from the boxes. I always ask every one if they have any “old stuff” even though it isn’t displayed. Lots of stuff comes from under tables, boxes and out of sight. All this stuff was really cheap. Always happy to find unusual stuff for a bargain...
  10. Terry Stroud shows up late, covers up his booth, and disappears to lord only knows where?
  11. This guy was a joke. Most of his stuff was low grade stuff. Very few GA. He was selling them “for half marked guide” prices. My momma didn’t raise no fool. He just priced them at double guide and was asking half off that. I made him a fair offer on these two but he turned me down with a sneer. I left ‘em...
  12. Local guy Brad Sloan always has the best selection of vintage “F-VF” books. Practically all the SA/BA keys and always a decent amount of GA for me.
  13. About every two months we have a small little local LA comic con. Pretty small but a few decent dealers with some vintage stuff. What is also fun for me is there a few guys with cool, non comic book stuff. Pulps, BLB’s, pinbacks, toys and stuff. Got this killer Beatnik Halloween mask from probably the late 1950’s for $5.!!!
  14. Like a little mini local comic con coming up Daddio!
  15. Thanks! One of the nicest ones I’ve ever had and I’ve had a few. The builder painted it with matte paint as opposed to the usual glossy enamel. Makes it look so “desert like”. The shading on the wrappings is especially well done. Hard to see in this quick phone photo. I remarked to the lady who owned the store “too bad it was the only one”. She remarked that it just came in that morning and somebody just bought the “fish guy”. Damn, missed a nice Creature of the Black Lagoon by that much. Can’t for the life of me know why the person before me didn’t just buy them both. It was soooo cheap... Glad to get this one for my shelf anyway!
  16. Thanks Ritchie. Too much hanging around with Halgua, Redbeard and John Knight ruined a lot of my memory cells back in the day.
  17. I can help out a little. I recognize faces but the passage of time has erased some names sadly. Perhaps, some boardies with better memories can fill in the rest. Top photo: 2nd from the left, a legend in his own time and a rather dashing guy even now, Richard (Mr Bedrock) Evans. Don’t remember the other guys. 2nd photo: The guy 3rd from the left is my old buddy Gary Coddington. The two guys to his left are old dealers I believe but can’t remember. Don’t know the kid. 3rd photo: Easy, Ritchie Halgua on the left and Redbeard on the right. Great guys. Still keep in contact with him and John Knight (not pictured). We had a lot of good times and still do when we get together. Look at that piece of art Redbeard is holding. One of my favorite Strange Adventures covers. Man, Ritchie had vision and Great art! 4th photo: The guy on the left has been outed. Guy on the right, not sure. Hopefully, some of these guys will see this and fill in the blanks.
  18. Back in those days, I couldn't have afforded them even at the prices he was asking...
  19. As was said, if these were not witnessed by CGC they will not come back as authentic signatures. They are not rare or high end books. I wouldn't waste your money. Just keep them in Mylar and enjoy them...
