  1. No offense taken, I just have have to point out a few things here my buddy did not take a gamble if the cover was not legit he was covered either by Paypal & Ebay or by his CC. As to his ebay selling practices anyone who knows him will confirm he's one of the best in the biz and a stand up guy & all I can tell you is that when I visit his house I call it stately Wayne Manor & ask if I can move into the garage
  2. My buddy was thrilled with the grade, not the cgc costs lol, still blown away that this shows up for sale raw.....wow!
  3. My buddy knew there was a chance it was not legit, but if that was the case he was covered via Paypal ( yes it's a hassle) but if all go's well its a big hit and really was a case of risk vs reward.
  4. Just a quick update: I saw the cover today & its 1000% legit, Very strong colors, its on its way to CGC and the new owner is stoked. Just a point of reference for anyone saying no way, it can't be real I assure you when I went to see it I approached the cover with the same skepticism. At this point there is not much that I have not seen in this hobby However, Its a big score & it blows me away this is was out there in 2023. She's a Bad Mama Jama!
  5. I know the buyer and I will keep you guys updated :)

  7. I think in this art form or any other there are creative HIGH POINTS. Kirby, Adams, Miller, Byrne, Ditko, Romita, McFarlane or any artist/writer in this hobby have there creative period where everything is just hitting on all cylinders & for me what they have done later on really never detracts from the impact of what they did during that period. I mean lets be honest by the 1980s Kirby and Ditko are pretty FUBAR but both will always be Legends.............................. regardless of Captain Universe or Destroyer Duck.
  8. To each his own but having grown up with Miller in the 1980s, I can say his vision of DD, Batman & even Sin City impacted comics like very few people before or after him, at the time DD hit most comics had become so............predictable ( there are exceptions) I can still remember buying DD # 181 off the rack at 7/11 and didn't make it home to read it, just sat down on the curb with my Laffy Taffy, cold Pepsi and Miller greatness. Throw a few Byrne and Perez books in there and its a real Party!

  10. Just sucks, there was time in the 1970s when Neal was a true rock star, everything he did was mind blowing & really like nothing any of us had ever seen before. But lets not pretend he was always an amazing guy ( Neal didn't like BS). Neal had more talent in his little pinky then most of his peers and he knew it. I met Neal many times over the years and he could be an egotistical @ss sometimes ( a lot of times in those early days) Later on in life when he would see me we joked about it and he would whisper to me " But I am Neal F#cking Adams" I even have a Joker sketch he did for me for free with that on the back. His contribution as an artist and as an advocate for artists rights can not be understated. The comic industry lost a legend and the world is a little less bright. Rest in peace old boy and yes you will always be Neal f#ucking Adams to the generation of fans who grew up with you.

  12. Hey, no blame or hard feelings, I am ok with the final #, but the reality is I knew this sale was off from the get go, everything before it was sold at or below what I expected, just no heat on this Friday. All the best to the new owner!
  13. I am hoping for the best as letting this go was not easy as I know I will never get another chance at having this book in my collection ( it has been a dream owning this), I have no idea where this is going to land but it seems like a lot of people here are underestimating just how rare a complete and by today standards ( affordable) copy of Tec #27 is. The reality is unless your really rich this maybe the last chance to own this book for a long time. IMHO if I was trying to add this to my collection I could not sell off books fast enough ( other then Action 1 or a few others) Nothing I had would not be on the table to add this to my collection. I mean how many GS X men Hulk 181 or ASM 129 would it take to own this and all can be replaced any day of the week. So I guess we will see if any other collectors feel the same way I do? Regardless of where it lands today I hope it go's to a collector who treasures it as much as I have. Again unless money is no object it is by far the highlight of any collection. Thank you everyone for the personal PMS and well wishes!

  15. "but there it languishes" I think all ashcans have a limited market appeal these days, I remember when these started popping up and thinking/feeling these were game changers due to there historic importance. But imho a lot of modern investors/buyer just do not connect with the history of this hobby the same way a lot of first and second generation collectors do/did. If I make the statement " remember spending hours going over the color covers in your Overstreet price guide and dreaming of owning some of those books?" Most collectors that can relate are 50+ years old or older by a few decades. This current generation pops onto YouTube for the "HOT 10 this week" and moves on. The history is not as important as the hype these days. Now that being said sitting at 44k with over a week left feel like this ashcan MIGHT break a record. Most of the real players tend to come in late and I assume with so little data on these nobody wants to jump the gun. Good luck to the seller and to the new owner because....Indiana, we are simply passing through history. This, this is history. Belloq
  16. Today you can virtually buy a 100% reproduction1969 Camaro with no original/vintage parts, If I use 99% repro parts including modern engine & put an original 1969 steering wheel on it is it an original 69 Camaro? Now if I have a 99% all original Camaro and replace the steering wheel are both cars the same?..... Hell no! To me the Frankie books are 1970's DC Treasury books with a few original parts glued on. Shame because some very rare/key books or book parts got f#cked up in the process. The asking price is a joke.
  17. Buy the rare "ORIGINAL/COMPLETE" coverless being sold at Heritage next month re-sub & drop a quality Repo cover on it and its way cooler and way more legit then that Frankenstein thing (ie reprint)........ just my very biased opinion
  18. Tom Derby is a newbie to comics but is a big deal in the toy grading community and while he may or may not have over paid for the Cap #1 it's not some major god awful purchase imho.
  19. From what I understand the owner is AFA guy Tom Derby who also bought the promise Captain America #1, he is not a comic guy and bought them to resell them so I think the listing is legit.
