First off, congrats to the guy. Unbelievable gamble but I’m happy it paid off. As far as Clarkkentdds’ question, a good one for sure. No offense to I Am Not Glenda, but his buddy seems to waayyy over price his books, or atleast super high end stuff. Some examples, he has a Hulk 181 CGC 9.8 at $160K, an AF15 CGC 3.0 at $70K and a TMNT 1 8.5 at $37K, none with a best offer option. So basically he sells stuff WAAAYYYY above current sales without the intent to actually sell I guess. Unless he thinks a 2nd comic book is coming. Anyway, I have no freaking clue what a complete cover of Supes 1 could be worth, but seeing the way he prices other stuff, makes me feel like he’s shooting for the moon at $80K. My gut tells me you throw it in an unreserved auction, it sells for around $30K-$50K. But who knows. It’s such a unique piece now that it’s confirmed, maybe he’ll find a buyer for his ask 🤷.

No offense taken, I just have have to point out a few things here my buddy did not take a gamble if the cover was not legit he was covered either by Paypal & Ebay or by his CC. As to his ebay selling practices anyone who knows him will confirm he's one of the best in the biz and a stand up guy & all I can tell you is that when I visit his house I call it stately Wayne Manor & ask if I can move into the garage :)

Will be interesting to see what happens when it comes back from CGC. That’s nuts if it’s truly real, and if so I guess sometimes too good to be true isn’t. Huge congrats to the owner if it comes back legit that’s for sure! I still personally would never have taken a $2K gamble, forget about the second sale for $12K. But I guess anything is possible.

My buddy knew there was a chance it was not legit, but if that was the case he was covered via Paypal ( yes it's a hassle) but if all go's well its a big hit and really was a case of risk vs reward.

if their careers eventually included average work or even bad work later, that doesn’t diminish their impact in our eyes. A little disappointment maybe but that’s it. But if the lesser work was what you read first it might.

I think in this art form or any other there are creative HIGH POINTS. Kirby, Adams, Miller, Byrne, Ditko, Romita, McFarlane or any artist/writer in this hobby have there creative period where everything is just hitting on all cylinders & for me what they have done later on really never detracts from the impact of what they did during that period. I mean lets be honest by the 1980s Kirby and Ditko are pretty FUBAR but both will always be Legends.............................. regardless of Captain Universe or Destroyer Duck.

Below you will find a collection of 3 very hard to find complete 1930s news paper inserts featuring some very early work by historic Golden Age artists & characters.

These almost never come up for sale anywhere, I looked at multiple auction sites and in all the year only Heritage has only had 3 come up for sale,  1930s News paper inserts....You get to use the word RARE.

My intent was to grade them at some point but I am after another book.  PRICE IS $2000 Firm for all 3 copies Shipped. Which leaves a lot of money on the table if you take the time to grade these.

    Included are.......

Funny Picture Stories Complete Supplement #1 (Comics Magazine, 1937)  This was a weekly supplement to the March 5, 1937 issue of The Charles American Press newspaper from Lake Charles, Louisiana, produced three years before the first Will Eisner Spirit Sections were released. I am hoping for the best as letting this go was not easy as I know I will never get another chance at having this book in my collection ( it has been a dream owning this), I have no idea where this is going to land but it seems like a lot of people here are underestimating just how rare a complete and by today standards ( affordable) copy of  Tec #27 is. The reality is unless your really rich this maybe the last chance to own this book for a long time. IMHO if I was trying to add this to my collection I could not sell off books fast enough ( other then Action 1 or a few others) Nothing I had would not be on the table to add this to my collection. I mean how many GS X men Hulk 181 or ASM 129 would it take to own this and all can be replaced any day of the week. So I guess we will see if any other collectors feel the same way I do? Regardless of where it lands today I hope it go's to a collector who treasures it as much as I have. Again unless money is no object it is by far the highlight of any collection. Thank you everyone for the personal PMS and well wishes!

Don’t think it’ll hit 100k but won’t be too far off. Tec 33 8.0 didn’t do so well and bidding on the Tec 37 8.5 isn’t all that strong so nothing leads me to believe a coverless 27 will stand out

So true. I dislike buying a book that GPA’s last recorded sale was 2005, or some such. Makes pure guesswork out of figuring value. The current Superman ashcan is a perfect example of having zero idea of value. To me it’s historical significance makes it more valuable than the Marvel 1 pay copy, but there it languishes.

"but there it languishes"   I think all ashcans have a limited market appeal these days, I remember when these started popping up and thinking/feeling these were game changers due to there historic importance.  But imho a lot of modern investors/buyer just do not connect with the history of this hobby the same way a lot of first and second generation collectors do/did. If I make the statement " remember spending hours going over the color covers in your Overstreet price guide and dreaming of owning some of those books?" Most collectors that can relate are 50+ years old or older by a few decades. This current generation pops onto YouTube for the "HOT 10 this week" and moves on. The history is not as important as the hype these days. Now that being said sitting at 44k with over a week left  feel like this ashcan MIGHT break a record. Most of the real players tend to come in late and I assume with so little data on these nobody wants to jump the gun. Good luck to the seller and to the new owner because....Indiana, we are simply passing through history. This, this is history. Belloq

I am kind of thinking along the lines of Gotham Kid. What is the difference between a 7.0 restored and a 9.6 extensive restored? Not price-wise, but actual restoration wise.

Couldn't the 7.0 be worked up to look more like a 9.6? Most restorers stop as they approach the line that the book will be more paint than book, but the frankenbook people obviously don't. How much more work would it take to keep painting those 7.0 blemishes away so you have a very very extensive 9.6?

Today you can virtually buy a 100% reproduction1969 Camaro with no original/vintage parts, If I use 99% repro parts including modern engine & put an original 1969 steering wheel on it is it an original 69 Camaro? Now if I have a 99% all original Camaro and replace the steering wheel are both cars the same?..... Hell no! To me the Frankie books are 1970's DC Treasury books with a few original parts glued on. Shame because some very rare/key books or book parts got f#cked up in the process. The asking price is a joke.

    What is AFA?

i already thought the Cap 1 buyer was a newbie, paying that money for a book with rusty staples.  I’d like to know who is advising him

Tom Derby is a newbie to comics but is a big deal in the toy grading community and while he may or may not have over paid for the Cap #1 it's not some major god awful purchase imho.
