  1. Looks as though it is going to be Planet Awesome Collectibles Booth 597, 599
  2. One more that came back recently. Highest Graded SS. Plus I got the bonus Steranko story of how he first came to Marvel and worked with Kirby. Thanks again Mr. Steranko!
  3. Here a couple that came back recently that I bought back in the 80's from the original owner. I have loved the Kraven Cover for a long time! I really wanted to have Trimpe Sign this one at the Amazing AZ Con last year but he did not show on the day I was there. RIP Herb appreciate the talks we had over the years.
  4. Just recently added this one to my collection. For the price I could not resist!
  5. Boba, Leia, and Vader Ok! So I am a pretty huge Star Wars Fanatic in case the Alias 77Vader did not clue you in . My wife would probably say this is an understatement but lets just say I am Excited about the new Film coming out and all of the great books and art over the years. With that being said I Started this new foray into sketch covers completely by accident. I posted recently a Mike Zeck Commission that was my First Sketch cover. That is a technicality because I purchased a Star Wars #1 already completed by Don Ho and no it is not that Don Ho (for those who are old enough). I was on my way out of the Amazing Arizona Con 2015 when I forgot to pick up my free print for buying the tickets on Groupon. While gathering the print the young woman asked if I wanted to buy one of the exclusives they had for sale. All books were $10. There were about 5-6 sketch covers and one happened to be the Star Wars Boba Fett. I asked for the copy, paid my $10 and (luckily for her) since it was too high up on the board to reach she had to call for help. Well the gentleman who came by to pull it down when he realized she had sold me something that was not for sale. He let me know that he could not sell it to me since the Artists provided these as examples. At this I told him Technically they already sold it to me but as a nice guy I would be happy to pay a fair price. He ran off to see if this could be an option. After a Few moments of running around he let me know I could have it for $50 and that this was a bargain according to the dealer. Well, obviously, I snapped it up! The poor girl kept apologizing and even gave me a blank sketch cover for my troubles. Well fast forward to the Phoenix con 2015. I decided that with my Zeck success I would look into commissioning another book or two. Originally Art Adams was supposed to do a Leia sketch for me but he ran out of time. It was unfortunate but Jae Lee was happy to do a quick head sketch for me. It was such a pleasure to see Jae work with brush and ink. I hope to see him around again in the future. What a Pro! Mt last Sketch from the Phoenix con was done by Arizona's own Tony Parker. Tony was a great guy to chit chat with and the Vader was classic. I am sure he will be back at the 2016 con here in Phoenix. Until next time! Please feel free to share some of your sketch covers. I love to see Original art too! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  6. Mike Zeck Sketch Greetings and Salutations Fellow Comic Book Enthusiasts! I finally did it! I commissioned a sketch cover by one of my favorite artists from my early years of collecting Mike Zeck! So when I heard he was coming to the Phoenix Comic Con this last Summer 2015 I started hunting for gems in my collection to send off for Sig Series. The timing of my search happened to co-inside with the Launching of Secret Wars. Now I must tell you that being an old school collector these new-fangled sketch covers were something new and if I must say a bit alien to me. I remember saying to myself a couple of years ago that I just don't get the idea of a sketch cover. Why have someone draw all over a perfectly good comic when there are all sorts of other media that can be used? Now it may have been related to the junky sketches I saw here and there that were not very impressive but that is an entirely different issue. Well I snapped up a copy of the Secret Wars and figured I would give it a try. All I can say was "WOW" when I watched the consummate Professional Zeck at work. He transformed this meager little blank page into a better than I would have ever dreamed Sketch of Wolverine! I could not have been more pleased with the results and when he finally handed it to me I started to well up a bit! Now I fully understand the transformational properties of the Sketch cover. I have a couple of other Sketch covers that have been done since and I hope to share some more in the near future. I know I am new to the boards but collecting Comic Books, Art, Toys, among other things certainly is not. Until Next time! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here.
