I've been looking for a copy of this book for a long time.

I was on vacation at dinner watching the end of the auction.  My bid didn't hold up and I couldn't see paying $1400.  C'est la vie.

Amazingly my early bid of $300 didn't hold up. 

I'm not much of a completionist (at all).  My longest run was Ultimate Spider-Man.  It had just began around the time I started reading and collecting comics.  I had 1-86 before I stopped.  I'm a big Batman Adventures fan so I have that run from 1-36.  I am also a Futurama fan so at one time I had 1-44 before I stopped reading the title and sold them.

My only older comic run is Wrightson's Swamp Thing 1-24.  Love that series.  I read some of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing for the first time last year and enjoyed it.  But I don't own any except for issue #21 (my favorite cover).

I saw Bob Storms has Tales of Terror annuals listed for sale including the hard to find #1.

Way out of my price range.  I've been bidding on some ECs lately (Crypt and Vault) but getting blown out of the water (upwards of double Overstreet guide).

Read my favorite Tintin story The Secret of the Unicorn (1942 - 62 pgs).  What's not to love... mystery, humor, and pirates.

Tintin buys a model of an old ship for his friend Captain Haddock only to find out that the Unicorn was captained by his ancestor Sir Francis Haddock.  Captain Haddock finds a journal and recounts the tale of how they were attacked by pirates and the ship sunk with pirate treasure.

Tintin is kidnapped by the Bird brothers (who are on the quest for the treasure) and taken to Marlinspike Hall.

With help from Thompson and Thomson and their case involving a kleptomaniac pickpocket, the story concludes with Tintin and Haddock going to search for Red Rackham's treasure (the next story).

These storylines were the basis for Spielberg's Tintin movie.

Read The Shooting Star (1941 - 62 pgs).  Somehow I had never read this Tintin story before.  It's a bit strange with an asteroid hitting the earth and a professor portending the end of the world.  Then, it turns into an adventure as Tintin and Captain Haddock lead an expedition to the Arctic to discover the meteorite. 

But they are hampered by a rival expedition backed by an evil financier. But Tintin is triumphant in landing on the meteorite first and claiming it for the scientific society funding the expedition.  The strange properties of meteorite cause everything to enlarge quickly (mushrooms 🍄, an apple core grows into giant apple tree, and a spider).

Tintin is rescued from the sinking meteor with a sample.  And the evil financier of the other expedition about to get his comeuppance.

Strong bids on every golden age comic auction listing I'm interested in.

Read the Crab with the Golden Claws (1940 - 62 pgs).  One of my favorite Tintin stories with the introduction of Captain Haddock.

And the reappearance of Allan as Tintin gets caught up in another opium smuggling ring.

Unfortunately, the copy I have to read is a reprint from the 60s where some of the cars are more modern.  Would like to read the original black and white version from the 30s.  The old cars are one of my favorite elements in the stories along with the settings.

Read King Ottokar's Sceptre (1938 - 62 pgs).  A classic Tintin story full of political intrigue, exotic foreign lands, interesting characters, and even an evil twin.

Love the king's black Packard (or Ottokar's autocar ).

I've been watching the animated series version after reading the stories and the car is prominently featured.

My first visit to a comics shop wasn't until I was an adult in 2001.

Bought these three.

Only have the Action 1 millennium reprint left.

I remember when the cover was listed for sale on eBay back in 2002.  Seemed like a fortune to me at the time.  I don't know if it sold and for how much.  Very cool cover.
