I thought with so many Kirby fans out there i would have gotten more responses by now so thank you for yours. Anybody else like to chime in here. Does anybody here have any pages or know somebody who does. Does anybody know of any recorded private sales. Also told me someone posted a 'mini art guide' that was pinned to the first page was isnt there anymore. It basically had details of the top artists and what you would expect to pay for certain pages depending on the title i.e Avengers,Thor etc and page type i.e splash, battle etc etc. Regardless what do people thing a Thor v Hercules battle page from Thor #126 is likely to command.

Any Kirby fans or knowledgeable Original Art collectors who could answer what i wrote in my post

I was hoping to buy a stellar Kirby battle page and have focused my attention on Thor #126 seeing as that whole issue is practically a battle between Thor and Hercules. However having checked both Heritage and Comicartfans websites it has shown just 2 pages in total. I did hear/read years ago that when Marvel gave over 2000 pages back to Jack Kirby that most of them were JIM/Thor pages and it leaves me wondering if pages for this particular issue are readily available. Is there anybody else who has heard the same thing regarding the former and if these pages are available what sort of prices are they likely to be sold at.

The first one. Is/are there things that when you look at a piece of original art you say to yourself i know thats 100% genuine.

Thats a bit unfair. There have been threads in the past where people have put up pics of original art where collectors have asked the same thing which for all the world looked like an original. Some were genuine and some werent.

To be fair the seller does actually say 'production art' in their listing rather than original art so cant actually see anything wrong in the listing. By the way how come the link still works for something that was sold about a year ago.

I do have a story to tell from about 5 years ago which might take a while which i will go into when i have more time but for now is there anything that collectors look out for that determines for them anyway wether a cover is genuine and not a copy.

Well you certainly make a good case for why this cover should command more money. Just out of interest do you actually own this cover?

No problem but im afraid you will have to get in the queue as i know many others who are looking for Aparo/Batman covers from this period as well.

That really has shocked me as i was thinking $15K tops and then i got a pm telling me that the cover to Brave & Bold #199 sold for $15.5K. However i am not going to question anyone who has been following an artist for 25 years as obviously you will be more of an expert on Aparo than me. I only wanted this cover because its the first comic that i actually bought but dont think its particularly a great cover so why do you think this would sell for $10K more than the B&B #199 cover. I am interested in your opinion about this and Aparo art in general.

What! Was that a complete shot in the dark as that does seem a bit on the high side. What theory do you base that on?

Any Aparo fans like to chip in as to how much the Brave & Bold #200 cover is likely to cost.

Once again i am sure a member put this up once upon a time but i cant find it anywhere. Again if anyone knows who the owner is or of its whereabouts please LMK. Also would anyone like to hazard a guess as to a ballpark figure of what this likely to cost.

Wow $15K! That certainly puts things in perspective. Maybe delekkerste is right and $20K is the absolute floor for the splash page.

I would pay more than that within 10 minutes , but seriously i thought maybe $20K absolute max. Those figures you quoted does seem a bit high although i havent found any sales of those splash pages in recent years.

Page 2 from the same issue showed up on Heritage a couple of years ago and i was surprised it sold for $11K but still no sign of page 1 anywhere. This was discussed a few years back and the former owner put a scan up of it and might have even sold it. Does anyone have any ideas on who the actual owner is now or its whereabouts. Am i to also assume that the ball park figure is likely to be around $15K.

Well im afraid when my printer/scanner packed up a few months ago i did not bother replacing it. I do not have a digital camera either and because im not working these sorts of things are not a priority for me right now. I can borrow things things to put a scan up but its going to be a pain. With all due respect how is that going to help me? I will get people's opinions on how they think the damage may have occurred but then what. The main reason i started this thread was to find out if anybody else had similar experiences and how/if it was resolved.

O.k probably need to step back in here to get this back on topic. Does anyone have any thoughts, insight, opinions, friends who have experienced the same thing and if or how it was resolved. Thanks

I was waiting for somebody to say that before adding to what i have already written so far. When i got the comic back and showed the damage to Dan Scott from Scotts Collectables the first thing he said was 'thats a mylar cut.' When i asked the dealer if he could possibly have snagged it on the mylar by accident he said definitely not as its not his job to take it out the mylar to examine the book because he is not the one grading it he just sends it on, which makes sense. I am of the opinion this happened at CGC and they just havent owned up to it.

That is very very poor. Every professional company should be honest, open and transparent. The policy should be 'we will give you fair market value for the difference of what the book would be worth had we not damaged it.' That might well be the last book i submit to CGC.

Maybe the word 'chip' that i used was incorrect as its giving a false impression. Probably should have used the word 'section' as that is more accurate so i will try and describe it like this. If you were to go to the top right hand corner and mark 2 dots say 8mm horizontally and 8mm vertically and then join those 2 dots up you would end up with a triangle and that is what i have missing. There wasnt a very deep crease there so that the corner was hanging on by a thread no the cover overall was solid. The fact that it was graded 7.5 with this piece missing should kind of tell you that it was a high grade copy to start with. I showed it to some friends who said they have never seen that before and were of the opinion that something sharp has sliced through the cover. As for the denial part its the "we didn't do it, no way it happened here" part that im referring to. Are you telling me CGC have NEVER EVER damaged a book in their possession. Im sorry but i find that extremely hard to believe.

The problem is that is the sort of response i got "we didn't do it, no way it happened here" which i think would still have been the same sort of response if i had sent it in directly. I doubt they could grade thousands upon thousands if not millions(not sure how many books CGC have graded so far) and not cause any damage to any books they are only human after all. Accidents will happen and i can accept that, its just the denial that bothers me.

I trust the dealer who sent them in implicitly. The damage is like someone cut the corner off with a scalpel so not possible to be done by a postman

I havent posted on here for a while due to family issues but now things are getting better i have decided to get back into the comic scene once again. I do have an issue which has i feel has not really been sorted to my satisfaction and i am at a loss as to what to do. Hopefully(or not as the case may be) someone has experienced this and it was resolved in a fair manner and a sensible solution was reached. Basically i had a Vampirella #1 which i gave to a dealer/board member who was sending other comics to CGC . We both had a look and i said i would give it a preliminary grade of 9.0 and he said 8.5 so basically we were in the same ballpark. When the magazine came back the dealer contacted me to come and collect it and when he handed it over and i saw the grade of 7.5 i was quite shocked. I have submitted loads of books to CGC and have never been that far out with my estimated grade so i examined it immediately thinking maybe i forgot to look at the back. Could not find anything obvious so i turned to the front and saw a very noticeable chip in the top right hand corner. I showed it to the dealer and asked if maybe he did it by accident but he swore that he does not take comics out of the mylar before sending them to CGC as there is no reason to and just sends them on. I did email Harshan and he basically said something like this could not have happened on the CGC premises without anybody knowing about it or something along those lines, i.e CGC are not responsible for what happened . Does anybody know what to do or have they had a similar experience. This feels like a real kick in the teeth.
