  1. Fascinating website ive just come across http://www.vampilore.co.uk/models/leigh_barbara.html I love the black and white pics of Barbara Leigh. It sort of captures the moment of that period.
  2. About 6 months ago a very sharp looking Vampirella in CGC 9.9 sold for over 2K and i noticed issue #78 in 9.8 on Comiclink which not only looks just as sharp with the Barbara Leigh cover . It reminds me of a story i was once told to me by my brother. A friend of his use to work at American International Pictures and they were approached by Hammer Films whose owner had cast Barbara Leigh to play Vampirella in a movie. She actuallycame to the meeting as well wearing the vampirella outfit and pursuaded them to come on board. However apart from Leigh there was no other famours actor in the movie and the whole thing fell apart. which is a shame. It still surprises me that with all the vampire and vampire related films made nobody has done a big vampirella movie. Hope its just a matter of time.
  3. Saw a GS Defenders in 9.4 sell for over $300 on ebay a couple of weeks ago which was impressive although this will seem cheap when KORVAC eventually turns up in a Marvel movie.
  4. Does anyone have a link to the thread where various members actually stated what the grades of the various Oakland copies were given by CGC as i just cant find it? .
  5. That would be mine. What do you want to know? Sorry just returned from France. How long have you had it and where did you buy it Bought it around 2002 and it was part of a high grade Vampirella collection that i sold a few years ago. I kept that issue as it was my favorite and was thrilled it got a 9.9. Its a bit of a wrench to let it go mainly because after submitting thousands of omics/magazines mainly from the 65-75 era its the only 9.9 i have ever received, . ive received loads of 9.8's but never a 9.9 . However i have other priorities now so it needs to be sold and hopefully it goes to a collector. So youve had it for 14 years and you didnt think to send it in earlier. I thought it might have been a recent purchase. Just out of curiosity why are you selling it if its your only 9.9 out of thousands submitted. If i owned it there is no way i would be selling it. Well i had it down as a 9.8 with a shot at a 9.9 but then again ive probably had 50 books with the same scenario so i was always going to send it in but had just given up hope of getting a 9.9. Im selling it only because we are expecting another child and that always has to take priority otherwise no i would not be selling it although the price does seem a bit low at the moment so im wondering if i did the right thing. Dont worry i dont think it will finish anywhere near $950 as a Vampirella in 9.9 is very rare. You do realise a lot of activity takes place on the last day, then the last hour, then the last minute and even the last 30 seconds. I sold an item once where all hell broke loose and there was 15 bids in the last 30 seconds. Ive even Iost something with 3 seconds to go so dont get too disheartened.

  8. I'd estimate about $1000 in F, $600 in VG, $300 in G, $200 in Fr and $100 in Pr. Thanks
  9. A friend of mine has The Spider #1 in low grade and was wondering what it was worth. Does anyone have any idea? I dont have any pulps so i havent a clue.
  10. He probably wanted a pseudonym for his airbrush work and thought Xela(Alex backwards) fitted the bill perfectly.
  11. I agree 100% with everything you have said in your post and i couldnt have written it better myself. I would also add that i think Schomburg / XELA airbrush covers are the most undervalued group of books from the golden Age with Exciting Comics being the most undervalued title which is why i use to collect them. The one on Comiclink's auction is the highest graded copy they have had for sale(the highest copy i ever had was a 9.0) and if it finishes at the current price that will be a bargain.
  12. I have the DVD... Talisa Soto is gorgeous and kicks butt, however doesn't really look like Vampirella. The movie is not so good. Roger Daltry stars in the movie which was a surprise and it was terrible! Im loving these reviews. I only watch films if they are terrible or really good so im going to watch this asap. Im surprised someone like Talisa Soto took on the riole though. This "direct to video" movie will be right up your street then! I'm not 100% certain but I think it was Soto's only lead role in a movie... Maybe that had some bearing on her decision to take it. Yep you were right that was terrible lol and Daltry was awful. Talisa Soto certainly has a nice figure. The thing is she is wearing the proper outfit on the DVD case but but something weird looking in the film.

  14. On the topic of Vampirella i was saying to a friend that they should bring out a film and he told me they had several years ago with Talisa Soto playing the part of Vampirella.around the time the first Blade film was made(must have been the Vampire era). Anyone here happen to catch the film and can confirm if it was any good.
  15. Only ordered from them online. They have a good mix of everything especially focusing on UK related comics, pence copies etc. Whats their grading like?
  16. Has anybody here visited 30th Century Comics in Putney. Ive heard its near the Thames not far from Putney Bridge and with the weather being so nice at the moment and im off work this week i might pay a visit. Just wanted to know if anyone has paid a visit and what they think?
  17. I agree there are some great covers.which is why i bought a whole run of high grade NM/NM+ Thor's between 200-220 from Superworld Comics back in 2006. Unfortunately i sold them all off 3 years ago
  18. What! All these Vampirells collectors on the boards and no-one has owned up to owning it. Not sure how much it will go for but i definitely will be keeping a close eye on it as there is so much good stuff in their Summer auction it might not get a lot of attention. Also i have a whole month to save up
  19. Wow........Just WOW http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2Fauctions%2Fpreview%2Easp%3Fcode%3D2016aug%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26pg%3D14%23Item%5F1134124&id=1134124 Does any board member here own the Vampi #19
  20. https://www.atlastales.com/issue/1943 thanks
  21. There's a nice looking Love Romances #82 at auction on the link at the moment and because Overstreet seems to make more errors with Baker art than anybody else by listing work that isnt his and Vice Versa i just wondered if any collectors can confirm wether this book does contain artwork by Baker. Also does anyone know who the cover artist is?
  22. Is DC Horror making a comeback? I remember years ago when they were all the rage and the prices they were fetching were incredible which was when i decided to sell but i still kept an eye on sales as it was a genre i remembered and collected fondly. Prices then started to dip and then flatlined but in the past year they seem to have been on the rise again, especially the issues with classic covers and those in high grade. A House of Secrets #94 that fits both bills and a comic that has always frustratingly eluded me in high grade was sitting at such a reasonable price yesterday that i thought i would bid on it just to say i finally managed to get a copy. The price with about6 hours to go was $229 which was below my maximum bid but I had to go out and do something so I thought I would bid when I came back. So 20 minutes later I came home and when I checked it had more than doubled to $485. I could not believe it as there were still several hours to go. A little over an hour later it then rose up to $555 which was above my max bid so I didn’t bid. Im not sure what the GPA is on this book but it finished above $1200 which seems like a strong price and a lot more than I thought it was going to fetch. Anybody have any thoughts.
  23. I have fond memories of this title and have similar experiences with other posters on here. It was the first title i collected actively but still being at school i could not afford to buy the early issues in high grade and had to settle for low grade copies which became very low grade copies because i read them to death, thats how much i enjoyed reading them. I have finally put a nice high grade run together with the key issues being all slabbed in 9.4 or better with the remainder in raw high grade. I also agree with another poster in that high grade 9.4 and 9.6 slabbed copies are very affordable compared to other well known titles of the same era. In fact there is a 9.4 white paged Conan #24 at auction right now which i would have bidded on myself if i did not already have a copy.
