Anyone got a verdict on Transformers #3 yet? I'm still waiting for mine to arrive.

I got through #3 over the weekend.  The book is still holding my attention although there was a bit with Optimus that felt out of place to me.  I may be a bit of traditionalist when it comes to TF, so maybe I was more surprised than I should have been considering some of the stuff that IDW had put out.  Anyways, I dug the human response to the TF because it felt natural.  And issue 3 had me all the way until the whole climax of the fight, if you want to call it that.

  2. I forgot about this thread as new threads would appear.  Since my last post here, I think I have completed runs of:

Marvel Two In One + annuals

    Solo Avengers/Avengers Spotlight

    West Coast Avengers + annuals

    American Flagg v1 and v2

    Marvel Comics Presents

    What The?!

    NFL Super Pro

    Sen:

I think that may be it for now.  Still working on some other runs and might finish them up In 2024

  3. I read the first issue the other day and was impressed with it.  Definitely a nostalgia vibe but also with a touch of the modern.  So far it feels like Transformers.  IDW lost their way after a while, so it's nice to get a fresh take on an old classic.  I only picked up the A cover of #1 and at some point (maybe while drinking, not sure) I ordered a TFAW variant.  I am going to pick up the group shot covers of #1 and the second prints of #1 with OP and Starscream.  I did the full completist thing with Dreamwave's and IDW's runs, and it was a lot of work, but worth it to me.  I won't do that with this run but I will pick up the covers I think are cool.  I agree that the wraparound of #4 looks sharp.  I'm still getting used to the art, but I was spoiled for years with Alex Milne, EJ Su, Don Figueroa, Andrew Griffith, Andrew Wildman, and others.

Here are covers for Transformers #4. Also, #1 sold a minimum of 150,000 copies! That's just the first print, and doesn't include all of the world, or digital, so real sales are much higher. Let's hope those numbers remain high.

Hopefully it's because people actually enjoyed it and it wasn't just for the quick flip that so many d-bags are in the hobby for.

Ya it's tough to go around the windmill again, after the egregious characters deformation, and I'm sure it will start and stop. I hope they can get a new character going to bring back or retcon old ones, but I'm curious why they think now will be a good time to a new reader. Like I remember when I "first picked up comics" that those characters ended up making a big impact. Are there new readers?

I mean at least this new character may not be mature readers idk. So bigger audience....

I'm curious what advantage to sell the comics and pick up readers they have? They surely are busines minded, but it's hard to tell. :makepoint:

    lol

Every Punisher writer for the last 15-20 years just writes Frank as an emotionless killing machine.  There is no humanity for the character at all.  If that is how the writers are going to craft the character, then the supporting cast or the stories better be worth it.  Ennis could pull that off.  The other cuck writers don't understand that.

Not sure if there are many new readers.  I rarely see any children at the LCS and if they're there, they are looking at Magic, Pops, or something else.

To be fair to the Joe Garrison version, the character looks like he might be more suited for the mainstream Marvel universe.  He can set his phasers to stun.

Now idk if this is considered spoiler, but maybe a welcome transition? Idk. eek!

Heard about it at the LCS yesterday, something mentioned at SDCC, where patron said new skull logo "looked like lights?"

New Punisher is named Joe Garrison.  Former SHIELD agent.  I could have been interested to see where this goes but after this last series (and some of the previous ones as well), it's a hard pass.

Anybody have any thoughts on the latest (2022) Punisher series? 🧐

I wanted to wait until I read the whole thing but I did find it interesting at one point.  I'm all for trying new things to freshen up Frank, but this run felt like a pile of dog spoon.  Part of my problem is that every Punisher writer after Ennis wants to try Ennis' style of making Frank a killing machine with no humanity.  Welcome Back, Frank showed he still had a human side in addition to being the Punisher.  The 1987 and 1995 series both did this well.  When there is no humanity left to the character, then the other characters or plot better make up for it.

There were some interesting concepts like going Beast Mode, but it's hard to actually see Frank join the Hand no matter what they offer.  Each issue was hit and miss for me but the main thing was that it made me not like Frank as a character.  I felt nothing for the character when the plot explores his early life and marriage.  I'm reading it not because I enjoyed the content but that I was already halfway through the series and decided I wanted some level of closure on the story.  I liked Jason Aaron's Star Wars run, but I'm not sure he was the guy to take this title.  Or maybe he was if the cool kids running Marvel said to spoon all over everything.

In any case, we've seen this before with Spooky Avenging Angel Punisher and I guess Frankencastle (which I didn't bother with).  Frank will be back at some point, and maybe done right.

  7. I like them.  I've bought the 28pt boards and Regular and SA bags along with a pack of their Mylar bags.  Good feel to the bags, the slightly thicker boards provide a sturdier support as well.  I haven't noticed any excessive warping yet like I've seen with Ultra Pro or other poly brands.

I'll also note that while the cut of their Mylar bags is listed as the same size as E Gerber, the EG full backs are a bit snug in the Comic Pro mylars.

I've been looking forward to this for years now. I'm suddenly turned off by the big voice cast. That's not what I want from the project. Is that weird?

I'm with you.  It's animated and if I'm hearing Thor when Optimus speaks, that may be a turn off.  I don't see the problem with professional voice actors unless the studios & producers feel they need a "name" to attach so people will come see it.  Transformers has been going on in some fashion since 1984 so I wouldn't think having big names attached would be necessary but I don't get paid to make those decisions.  I am interested in the character designs and how Cybertron will look.  Hell, from the 2018 Bumblebee film, I was all in on those Cybertron scenes.  I'll wait to see how it looks with some promo footage or character/scene designs.

  9. Up until about 2017 or 2018 I ordered from MHC fairly often.  Filling runs of Byrne's FF, Alpha Flight, and other random titles was ok with his codeword sales but I probably won't order again.  They've been running a New Years 60% since January but anything I looked at was way too much with 60% off.  I have good memories of doing mail order from them in the 90s and early 00s.  It's not a good business model but his inventory is impressive for what it is.

Funny name for a dog, isn't it.

I wish I could say it was me cleaning up.  X-Men #6 may have been the last one I purchased.  The cat is out of the proverbial bag, it appears.
