  1. Another great article. Ever consider making these as youtube videos?
  2. Update: looks like it sold. Glad to see creativity worked.
  3. Ok. So i got to admit the title of this listing was a bit misleading, but the description is worth one's time if you like satire. Not sure it will help the seller make a sale, but was fun to see. xforce 1 page Below is a copy of the description: Epic Black Tom Cassidy splash from the second highest selling comic of all time, X-Force #1! Also stars Sunspot, easily the most popular character in all of the X-Men/New Mutants organization. This book sold 5 million copies. Future civilizations will find this book when humanity is in ruins. This and styrofoam and Seinfeld box sets. You may also notice that X-Force #1 represented the first and ONLY time Rob Liefeld drew feet. 30 year career, 1 issue with feet. You'll notice that this splash page has FOUR feet on it, putting it in the top 10% for MFPP(Most Feet Per Page, a Liefeldian metric). Of course what makes this such a wonderful specimen is the fact that there are actually 15 people on this page, meaning a foot:available_feet ratio of only 1:7.5, an epic number on the Liefeld Scale of Feet. I'm not sure a better piece of comic art exists on the planet. Page also has a magic shillelagh on it.* With Cable certain to be in the Deadpool sequel, there is certainly a chance some or none of the characters on this page will also make an appearance! Rare opportunity to buy something Liefeld drew full backgrounds on. * - Seller in no way promises magical shillelagh abilities will be granted from touching the art
  4. Hi Felix, You are in a unique situation with the podcast. Would love for a future podcast to possibly have a panel of new and old collectors giving their points of view. Not a crazy debate, but a demonstration of their collecting philosophies. Showcasing the differences/similarities.
  5. Thats definately a good one in my book. I recall coming across that on Albert Moy's site a few years ago - but it was already sold (not that I could have afforded it at the time). I later asked Albert about it. He said it was $65,000. He thought the price was high and a risky price for someone to pay. I think (feel free to chime in if you got an opinion) that today 65k seems low for this iconic piece.
  6. Price/value was only brought into this to represent he concept of owning the ultimate grail (could be personal) so much so that not only would you give up the other stuff you collected, but that you would be satisfied wih the one piece of art. By making this grail =the value of your collection - it puts it in a more realistic setting for those of us that are not wealthy. If you have more money than you can spend, ( or a collection worth more than even the most valuable grail out there) then, the value part of this question will make less sense to you since there is no sacrifice required to achieve your collecting happiness.
  7. Taking all you said into account and what Brian Peck suggested. earlier. Could you be happy to keep the top piece you have and get rid of the rest? This question goea out to everyone reading this.
  8. the mona lisa is valid as long as you honestly believe that the selling price of it would be equal or less than what your collection is worth. for the sake of these boards however, it might be more appropriate to choose comic/genre art as opposed to fine art in general. but that's not a hard n fast rule.
  9. totally valid. Not sure I could do it either, but it's fun to consider. Perhaps part of the reason I was on this train of thought tonight is a friend was talking about the minimalists (check them out on ted talks - youtube). so the idea was to narrow down art collecting to an 'essence'.
  10. So this question popped in my mind tonight as I was looking at CAF and saw this awesome painting posted by Eric Roberts. He has one of the truly premium collections on CAF. The image he posted is below. Now I Like Elvgren, but after looking a this piece tonight I started to ask myself - would I trade my collection to have one awesome painting like this? And if I did such a thing - could I be happy? For the sake of discussion - would you consider (hypothetically) trading in your collection for one big piece? and if so, what might that piece of art be? To keep the fantasy portion of this what would you do game in check - the art you would get couldn't be worth more than the art you own. so if your collection is worth X, the item couldn't be worth 2x. Certainly some folks on the boards have huge collections (Talking to you Mr. Peck), but the idea is the same. You can imagine you sell everything, buy the one piece to enjoy and if there's left over money -use it for other stuff. Again -basically giving up your collection and finding happiness in one piece of art. The art doesn't have to be available for sale -but conceptually its value would have to be estimated as if it were for sale. In other words, could be the cover to Action #1. See the rest of Eric's amazing collection here.
  11. I think this Secret Wars cover is truly outstanding - but when you say 'second to none', how do you feel about Alex Ross?
  12. Yeah fish police fits that niche, and while I did collect it - never had a crazy fondness for it. Wish I did, as seen a bunch of it over the past year.
  13. Looking to buy some art. if you have anything on this list, please pm me or contact me via CAF. I know what's on ebay, so looking for other options. Please note, only looking for pages or covers -not sketches. 1. Peter Hsu art - interior pages or covers 2. Barry Blair Elflord -interior pages or covers 3. Troll Lords - cover art 4.Cerebus interior page featuring the aardvark (must be from issues 1-20). 5. Adventurers Covers or interior pages 6. Boris the Bear - Cover or splash page thanks for your interest and help
  14. This last article was great as it showed inside the mind of a regular (not big spender) collector.
  15. I think its a camera trick like the 60s batman and robin climbing up walls. It looked so real.
  16. To pile on, thanks Felix for another great podcast. With regards to Gene's comments on nostalgia - I totally agree. The only thing I would say different is that nostalgia in my case doent just come from the earliest comics I bought. As a kid I watched a lot of superhero cartoons. When I find comics art today with some of those characters or cheesy dialogue my nostalgia is also stoked. Not sure if anyone else feels that way.
  17. Not going to defend Coolines for their shady practices, but never had a' problem' with their pricing. That is to say, they can price things any way they want. To buy or not to buy, that's up to individual buyers. Here is a short personal story. One of the first pieces I bought when I got back into collecting several years back was from them. It was crazy expensive but I wanted the art. I had no current market knowledge so while it felt expensive, I was not 100% sure if I overpaid or not. If I knew then what I know today (about value)I most certainly wouldn't have made the purchase. Recently similar pieces have sold at auction for around what I paid back then or slightly more. So knowing more about pricing would have meant the end result would have been not to own that art. But would I have been better off? It's hard to say. Recently another boardie talked about paying a crazy multiple of value for an archie grail. He was happy and who are we to judge? Art is irrational. We are free to buy it or not. Would I buy from them again? probably not - but not for pricing reasons.
  18. Never got into Valiant - but love this cover and some of the others posted to this board in recent months! These artists are really killing it!
  19. Very cool cover. Because thise old wooden coasters arent scary enough.
  20. Added today. Frank Cho does what he does best. Thanks for looking Frank Cho Hulk on CAF
  21. Congrats. Fun page. Love the dialogue. Color image helps flesh it out.
