  1. For a minute, I thought I was in the "I am 50 years old...." topic.
  2. That's a nice note about your perspective on NFTs, technology, monetization, and ultimate disallusionment! As you step back and smell the roses for a while, you may rediscover the "artistic" touches in all the fine man-made work being done around us, from landscape excavating to car restoration; artists exist in all fields of endeavor and can be appreciated. Be sure to check back here once in a while. I always enjoy your messages, David @ESeffinga thanks for writing this. I appreciate this comment and all the other ones where you provide your experience, knowledge and feelings. You're stepping back for the "right" reasons. When we see you again, it'll be for the "right" reasons.
  3. OK, to be fair, there's a good amount of speculation/predictions/etc in this forum ahead of auctions. Maybe Bill Cox can have some of those commenters on CAF Live ??
  4. I think there would be conflict of interest concerns, accusations of shilling, etc.
  5. You mean that great drummer for The Pretenders ??
  6. It looks like HA went back to the previous format with tabs across the top of the screen. I guess HA will revisit the other format later.
  7. Probably because the 48 hours have passed.
  8. I'm surprised noone has mentioned this... The display for My Tracked Lots is messed up (too narrow). When using My Tracked Lots | Auction Previews, also too narrow. And then when trying to order by Opens for Internet Bidding, it goes back to My Tracked Lots | Current Auctions. I noticed it before the weekend and just notified HA.
  9. Going by what Jason described, the NFT and OA... are... paired together... forever. Can you sell the OA separately ?? Yes. Should you ?? In theory, you've agreed not to separate the two. The OA can even be sold by accident. As I mentioned, it's possible that the OA is lost and shows up at a garage sale one day. Maybe it's the old "my mother threw out my OA when I went to college" problem. If the OA is lost, you're technically now allowed any transactions with the NFT.
  10. If "you" is the owner or artist of an NFT, I don't think you have any protection from screenshots. If "you" is the artist, you may have protection re: copyright. I'm basing that on @aqn83's comment with links to a couple Jock NFTs (link below). The NFT's were "limited open editions" (sold only during a certain time period). I wonder if each NFT is sequentially numbered. If so, would #1 be worth more than #2 ?? Getting back to protection from screenshots... I saved 2 of the images and reduced them. One could just blow them up and create crappy t-shirts. I'm calling "fair use". I hope noone sues me,
  11. As described by Jason of Essential Sequential, they are creating NFTs that are forever paired with physical art. He said the pair can never be broken up. He gave the analogy that it would be like taking a Mickey Mantle rookie card and giving half to Bill Cox and half to Felix. Not half shares... but actually tearing the card in half. Not sure if he counts as an SME but he's transacting sales using the model he described. One of the reasons for creating an NFT (any NFT) is to create a chain of title (i.e. provenance). So if the "original" NFT is lost (e.g. forgot the password), a "new" NFT cannot and should not be created. Let's say that later on, the original NFT is recovered... then what ? You have 2 competing NFTs ?? It doesn't seem possible that issuing a new NFT simply voids out the original NFT. Suppose even the new NFT is lost and yet another NFT is created... even worse. So it doesn't seem like you can "replace" a lost NFT. On the flipside, let's say the physical art is lost... well the original NFT (if forever paired with the physical artwork as described Essential Sequential) is worthless. If the NFT cannot "change hands" without the physical art, the NFT is... "essentially" worthless. Now let's say some random person finds the physical art at a garage sale. Well, that has a similar potential to finding an original copy of the Declaration of Independence. Maybe one day you can look up lost art and see if there's a matching NFT ?? There would be a sizable reward.
  12. In theory, you could have an NFT paired with a slabbed comic (there is a unique number and bar code). But you should also assume that the comic was "authenticated" before it was slabbed. Do I really need to know who previously owned the slab via the NFT?? Well, yes... who the heck scratched up my slab !!!
  13. Another thing that was mentioned was that the Adam Kubert Spider-Man piece was drawn on 11 x 17 and is (forever) paired with the NFT. And they have to be kept together. I'm not sure how that would work. In theory if they are broken up, then it can't be sold. If you send/receive in crypto and you have to receive/send a physical piece and NFT, it sounds like there's a need for an escrow service or something. And then let's say the piece gets lost by USPS, UPS or DHL or FedEx or ... If you hold the NFT and the physical piece is lost forever, I guess the NFT is worthless ?? Send it with insurance ??
  14. In the example from last night, a post-purchase NFT is only feasible if Essential Sequential was the rep for artist X and you bought a piece by artist X directly from ES. And then you have to send the art back to ES for authentication (and presumably you still have the original receipt for something). Then you pay for getting the NFT and return shipping. And by having the NFT, you're now obliged to give some percentage of any future sale to artist X. Let's say you bought a piece by artist X before being repped by ES. Or you're the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc owner of the piece. Theoretically, you may not be able to get an NFT. ES and/or artist X may not be able to authenticate. Bill mentioned that you can't get an NFT for Jack Kirby art because he's no longer living, Kirby would be unable to authenticate. This is an important point. Maybe... maybe not. Theoretically, "Kirby experts" can authenticate. But there could/would be a possible conflict of interest.
  15. Just connecting a couple dots https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/story-page-original-art-group-of-2-dc-2020-/p/122108-51011.s?ic2=mytracked-lotspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyTrackedLots-101116 The listing shows 2 COAs for the 2 monoprints. But the current description (bolding by me) is: Story Page Original Art Group of 2 (DC, 2020). Two pages from writer Tom King's epic (and controversial) run on Batman, including from Issue 49 -- it's the Cat vs. the Clown in the aftermath of their exciting showdown, and from Issue 83, Bruce finally learns of Alfred's death, and mourns the loss of his friend. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with image areas of 10" x 15". Soft handling wear and in Excellent condition. Hot take: The lot sold for $71 including the premium. What a steal !!!
  16. Let's face it, the entire world, not just the collectibles world has gone nuts. There may be different price points but collecting comic book art has never been more of a luxury than now.
  17. Now that is an interesting question. And why would a publisher grant such a lucrative right ? My gut says no. But then that begs the question what is the value of such a limited NFT If I take a screenshot of Kubert's Spider-Man, crop it and add a border, can I sell it as a totally new NFT ??
  18. Jason Schachter, as mentioned in the article, Essential Sequential reps the artists in that article. @nexus and Jason will be on on ComicArtLive's youtube channel next Tuesday, 2/23, discussing NFT. Regardless of the artistic merits, price, rarity, etc... some non-comic but pro-finance website has a screenshot. I wonder how the owner feels about that. And how would I feel the same if a scan from one of my CAF galleries was on the same site ? And the image being a "one of a kind", what if the Kubert had the same image but tweaked the palette a little (e.g. turn up the contrast a smidge), well now you have another "one of a kind" NFT. I wonder how long before CAF has "NFT" choice under Media Type ??
  19. Forgeries aside... on top of Bill Finger getting screwed, Bob Kane is just...
  20. -> Ha-ha <- My subscription to the Financial Times must've lapsed !!
  21. Well, technically Time Warner owns DC and AOL. Was it a corporate AOL e-mail address or the standard aol.com ??
  22. Got these... drawn on the back of Chris' 5 x 7 "thank you" cards. I wasn't really planning on selling them but you can purchase them by making a generous donation to the GoFundMe indicated in @Timely's topic
