No more than usual.  A couple a year here and there.

As hard as it is to grade in 9.8 in the first place... probably won't see many more, right?  I also find it odd that this comic barely beat out UF4 variant when you look at the census numbers; however, the content really seems to matter more on UF4.  I never would have thought that UF4 variant would reach the numbers it has (same for the ASM 667 variant).

I must admit browsing through this discourse has been quite educational if not eye opening (:. Despite being immersed in pre-1974 comics for a very long time - I had no idea there was such a fruitful, thriving and profitable side to modern variants:shiftyeyes:  My only question is this IF a benefactor offered you for free either an AF15 blue label CGC 3.0 with say o/w pages (current value could be I don't know say 45K) or a group of those top 5 variants worth perhaps 65K FMV value now - and the catch was you had to hold it for at least 36 months before selling - which would you choose - the 45K AF15 or those 65K modern variants?

I'd buy all the books.  Silly question :P

  3. Comments like, "with that kind of money, I would have purchased <INSERT MY FAVORITE COMIC HERE> instead," offer no value to this conversation.  You're just a back-seat driver who obviously hates freedom of choice.  Accept the bold move and move on.  ASM 667 Dell'Otto may not be your cup of tea, but to MANY others, it is definitely a key they wish to own.

This sale may also be quite an outlier if two people were in the hunt to finish off their collection.  Perhaps $20K-25K is where this comic really sits.  Obviously, that number seems to be 15K+ too high for many who've already commented.  Only time will tell if another copy becomes available again.  I know of at least one collector with THREE CGC 9.8 copies.  I doubt he will sell any of them, but you never know...

  4. People buy what they like and will spend $$$ on what they choose to spend their hard earned cash on.  ASM 667 variant is an interesting book.  A lot of people are going to rag on the sale, and that's fine.  That's why you collect GA books and others collect modern.  Overall, though... the book is quite rare and seems to be very difficult to get in CGC 9.8.  It is still a very speculative book, though.

Well it does get interestinger and interestinger. The curious case of TMNT #1 9.8 with cert # 0950071001.  Now in preview mode on Heritage here:

So, the story goes that back on 4/1/2016 this beauty sold on Comic Connect for $27,222.00, and has been verified with CC. Then on 4/29/16, the ever-present nick_bridger apparently sold the same book on ebay for a final auction value of $24,100.00. To those unfamiliar he has had several 9.8's on ebay that either sell, or kinda-sorta sell or we're not really sure. It is a little odd how the book sells for 27K then he sells the same book for 3K cheaper a month later. Anyhow it's available again this time on HA, bidding starts on 4/20/18. No idea if he's the seller but HA is legit so this should be drama free for the winner.

    Another opportunity for a 9.8 :)

  6. My upper limit bid on that TMNT #1 CGC  9.8 was $28K w/o BP (second highest bid).  Someone went a step higher.  Sadly, it may be a few years before another 9.8 pops up, though you never know. I won the 9.6 and really did not expect it to take off to 20K+. I agree that the OW-W pages shouldn’t account for a $12K price differential; however, it could be possible that someone thought they saw something in the previous auction to merit that price (I.e. a press job that could bump up the grade).  I think the range for 9.6s are in the neighborhood of $12-15K.  The 9.6 I won presents good enough for me.  One day I’ll add a 9.8 ;-)
