Police Comics 1 - a book whose time has finally come
catman76 replied to atomised's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I will never understand why people get excited any comic is selling for insane huge amounts and that it is popular. I want everything I like to be hated and no one to want it so I can actual afford own stuff I want. -
At what point did the Comic Book overtake the Pulps?
catman76 replied to bronze johnny's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
pulps were low trash for adults and comic books were low trash for kids and there really was no crossover or any kind of competition so neither affected the other. Pulps never really went away, they just evolved into other things by the mid 50s and that classic pulpy paper magazine was gone and replaced by just a normal magazine or newsprint magazine format. They became the men's magazines of the 50s and 60s and detective magazines that lasted until the 90s, or early 2000s even and smaller digest magazines. -

The picture is too small. Could be a scratch on the cover that took off the ink -
Promise Whiz #2 has the wrong back cover
catman76 replied to catman76's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Yeah so? All their auction previews always say that and always have. Has nothing to do with cgc making a huge mistake like that. It all makes me not trust cgc even more. Why I do not understand people that buy slabs and then keep them sealed up and never see what the comic looks like inside. I could never own something that I never have seen what the most important part of the comic looks like. If they miss huge things like a wrong back cover, what could they have missed on the insides before? Especially these promise comics that seem to be all a mess grading wise and now them not even noticing a wrong back cover on one. -

Promise Whiz #2 has the wrong back cover
catman76 replied to catman76's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Heck, maybe the insides aren't even a Whiz #2. No way to know with it sealed up. -
Don't they usually point out such things? Kind of a big thing to overlook... https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/whiz-comics-2-1-the-promise-collection-pedigree-fawcett-publications-1940-cgc-fr-10-cream-to-off-white-pages/p/7266-12203.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515#

Newbie Question on Golden Age Marvel Family Comics
catman76 replied to Happy Noodle Boy's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
the more date stamps and names written on them the better to me. part of the reason i love old comics is the history of each issue, who bought it, what happened to it, its individual history. but i am weird i guess, i seek out old comics that look like they were loved and used, like i love when i can tell a comic was folded up and some kid bought it, folded it up and stuck it in their back pocket and rode around on their bike with it in their back pocket, wrote their name on it so their friends didnt try and steal it. there's raw copies of that issue on ebay right now and other marvel families for under 50 bucks, buy one of those and enjoy the great comics inside -
