Ross is the guy for me. Byrne's MTU was brilliant and may be the most alluring, but like those before him, Ross adding to the evolution of Spidey's depiction. That can't be understated. Romita made the characters pretty and put a spit shine on them. Ross added NYC to the cast of characters, with his dedication and detail, as well as drew "maniacal" like nobody else. His JJJ, Green Goblin, etc, left no doubt of ferocity and threat. Ross also tweeked Spidey's physicality a bit. McFarlane went over-the-top with agility and contortions and I adored what he added. The truth is that, taken out of historical context, most of the guys from the past are either underappreciated or one's vision skewed.

I don't make my way around the intranets very often and so was completely unaware of this thread, despite the fact that Ross Andru is my favorite Spidey guy. Thanks to Reggie for making me aware of it. I went to a small art con in NJ, yesterday and saw this page. I wrestled over spending the dough to get it, but caved for two main reasons..... 1) I don't see many Ross Amazing Spidey splashes around (I had actually never seen this original piece, prior to yesterday). 2) That is an example of the PERFECT Spider-Man. From pose, to figure work, to the inks provided (It is either Dave Hunt of Frank Giacoia). When I saw this, I was immediately reminded of the Spidey's physicality, after Superman pulled his punch. I am 7 years old, every time that I look at this original piece of art. I consider myself a lucky guy, for many reasons. This has become one of them. This depends on who is inking. Recently, inks are over bluelines, though I love seeing inks directly applied. Miki's work over his Hulk stuff and Paul's original FF art are great examples of solid inking, directly over pencils.

Paul's a great guy and my favorite working artist. That he isn't at the top of Marvel or DC's artist list is an absolute crime.

Paul sold most of those pages at Baltimore Comic Con a few years back and had them priced at 5 for $100. I believe that someone bought the entire portfolio for a fraction of that. The pages are out there and being sold by whoever picked them up.

Eddy Barrows produced this Superman piece, which sold immediately. He has a bit of time coming up in the next month or so and will be offering 4 spots for some highly detailed, 11x17” commission pieces, comparable to the Superman piece. I have posted both a photo and a scan of the completed Superman piece, since many of the nuances of the piece are lost, when not seeing it with the naked eye. These pieces go far beyond the commissions that Eddy has done in the past. Due to the time, effort and detail put into these pieces, they are $1,000 per piece. The first 4 people who message us and commit to a piece are on this short list.
