I was watching this one since since there doesn't seem to be a lot of inked Turner covers showing up - and not ones of this magnitude:

    https://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fbids.asp&id=1760279

$22,472 - not sure if that's low, high or average, anyone chime in on this one?

it's a memorable, breathtaking piece of art. Turner is on a level not quite Dave Stevens, but he had his own unique way of drawing beautiful heroines. This is Aspen, not Witchblade, but I'm happy to see Michael's work gaining momentum with dollars behind it. I have no stake, and I'll probably have to ride out the rest of my collecting days without getting hold of a piece as good as this by Turner. Well bought. I'm jealous, which is a sin.(tsk)

  2. The COA means zip unless they watched him sign. That being said, it looks legit to me. I can't give you a COA but I can tell you this. The true signature of any art piece is the artist's actual work. The art looks like Todd's. (thumbsu Next is the penned (marker) autograph, and this signature looks legit. I can't tell you what you should pay for it. This is not very detailed, however, Todd is one of those guys who makes quick sketches so representative (of spawn, spidey, etc.) that you walk away pleased. I don't see any pencil lines, all marker. That's a common way he does these. Good luck.

  3. There was a time when eBay was the place to go to buy and sell original comic art. Things have changed of course, but from time to time a surprising listing on eBay pulls our eyes away from HA and the lot. I'll start here with this just closed result. This thread could be a neat place to post gems you think slipped past the major auctions and wound up here.

The seller bought this from Chris 31 years ago. I can't help but wonder if he was pleasantly shocked by the final result. It's a wonderful page of art and content, from a great story.

if you guys come across other results from eBay that standout please share.

  4. I know budgets get waxed from time to time with the burden's of life. Grifter and Midnighter #4 page 7 published by Executive Editor  Jim Lee's Wildstorm Productions August 2007. Penciler: RYAN BENJAMIN

So here's a budget friendly opportunity for someone who wants to have a piece of published original art and not surrender an arm and a leg for it.  The Galaxy is in peril, as untold legions of blood thirsty monsters attack all of civilization. The page below illustrates just a taste of the horrific destruction these alien creatures have unleashed. This page can be yours if you follow these directions:

    Bob Larkin very underrated IMHO.

  6. Not sure I like this idea I'm proposing, but... what if dealers and auction houses had to post coming art work on a legal listing 6 months before selling.

    1. If Art ownership is not contested, the sale/auctions can go forward.

    2. Stops flipping

i see some problems with my proposal, but going through theft horror stories year after year is getting old. I feel sorry for the fellas  losing a life time of blood sweat and ink.

Metropolis Comics just announced it will be up for auction. I wonder if it will come with Grader's Notes?

Edit: Nope, gonna be hard to press it up to a 10.0 I guess.

Press away, but what to about the color break over the staple by Nightcrawlers hip? Its a pretty book, but I can't help feeling that if it was me, or one of you submitting, there's no way we sniff a 9.9. That's it, other than the top right corner, where I've seen a few other copies with sharper corners and lower grades. No h8, just having trouble trusting the professional grading services.

    How much are they? $500 apiece? 500x43 = $21,500

The Vampirella sketch is on the website now for $3500. Who am I to say that's a tad aspirational.

    $3500 ea. x 43 = $150,500 :tieddowngif:

The true loss is the artists time and effort. Poor Neal probably never got over that sick feeling. Unless..... if the vampirella is not reproduced but the original drawing.

Maybe he got them back? I'm not inspired to investigate this, but will gladly read here if anyone had legit info.

The logic flaw in the Biff/Almanac timeline is that, eventually, sports books would adjust their odds to account for the fact that this guy never misses. He would have to get increasingly clever in his bets to disguise who he was in order not to distort the odds.

As a reformed gambler, I will agree with what you say 100%. I had that discussion with a friend of  mine. Even if you knew who was going to win a contest, your large bet would potentially grind your longshot into the "chalk."

Clearly the only solution is to slice the piece in half ( I prefer vertically) and sell half now at the lower seller's fee and then sell the other half in the summer signature auction.

It's called "Solomon's Dollar Cost Averaging"

Thy wisdom in this is almost worse than the mother wanting to settle for half a baby!

    Almost.

You'd need a DeLorean to answer that question today, the auction it's in starts on 5/16

I stole the DeLorean from that nerd Marty McFly. All I need now is an almanac with results for this years NCAA Men's 🏀 tournament winner. That'll put me over the top for the Ditko 6ft poster art! 💰--- Sincerly,

Taking kind of an informal poll.

I have an item listed with Heritage in the upcoming Signature auction and they botched the catalog listing.   It’s a color Romita Sr prelim of the DF Spidey/Goblin poster - listed correctly on the website but with the wrong picture in the auction catalog (which has a Superman pencil page).

Heritage has offered to either lower the seller percentage for the snafu or relist in the Summer Signature auction.

I personally do page through the catalog but by and large depend on the website - but that’s me.

How much traction does the catalog get?   Is it worth losing the 10 bidders and 90+ trackers to pull the item?   This is a Sunday automated auction listing so it’s a small pic in the catalog - not a major player piece.

Pull and relist or stay the course?

Stay the course. Pull and relist later will scream "marked down" and "yesterdays news" to the pool of been there, seen that fickle bidders. Unfortunate error but online exposure is strong enough to promote your item.

IMO the 375 was the one to go for. If you collected comics in that era you probably had or still have this book in a long box being the 30th Anniversary gold foil cover, not to mention it's regarded as one of if not thee best spidey vs venom battle issue of that era and has a direct tie into, or I should say leads into Venom Lethal Protector #1. The 375 pages as mentioned in the description for the auction just never come up and are held close to the chest, only 1 has been offered ever on Heritage, which was another panel page, not a splash, sold last year for $36k. This splash you're talking about was from 374, also coveted and part of the same battle, Heritage has only had 2 pages which both sold between $38-40k, one was returned and resold for $32k after frame was removed and found the page was adhered to a foamcore, which caused the page to ripple throughout.

On a side note, those bottom panels feature Anne Weying's first appearance freeing Peter's parents from Venom, she later becomes She-Venom in the comics and the Venom movies, played by Michelle Williams, not sure it adds value but still pretty cool.

The 379 I think was still a good deal and part of Maximum Carnage arc, great images, but more of a dialogue type of page and no battle, which is what collectors seem to gravitate to. Overall, great deals for both IMO, especially the 375.

Great breakdown. I make note of the higher prices being paid in contrast to five short years ago. In that sense the ask and get for these ASM pages have shot up.

Still, what you say is true. I think the buyers did very well. I'm positive that Bagley/Emberlin ASM pages are ones that will be untouchable in the near future. They don't come up very often publicly or privately.

I really like Bagley on ASM, as he was on the book when I started buying comics again after a 7 year hiatus.

All I'll say is I did my best and really thought I was going to win it. Someone set up a very high proxy bid heading into the final 3 minute clock, which began around 18k if I remember correctly? Every time I bid I was immediately outbid until this amount with the bp, the next bid wou;d've put me over $40k, which in retrospect in my eyes was probably worth it being so historic and Torch's earliest known illustration, but I figured to hold more dry powder for other lots. Still pisses me off but congrats to whoever put in their high bid and won it. Just makes you think how high that max bid was haha.

I wish we could know:-) That's the beauty and horror of online bidding. Good on you for trying. It's an important piece of history.

I bought a Freak Brothers page this past year.  Multiple reasons that I wanted one and why this one was the page I wanted.  What I did not expect was how phenomenal the art is in person.  First it's oversize, but the level of detail really makes you stare at it.

    IMG_8189.jpeg

I've seen them in person also. Agree with you about how much detail is in these pages. Very impressive in person.

I have a lot of respect for this underground art. I had a relative who used to go to a head shop and buy "supplies" during the seventies >:(.....

Not a big fan of that, but I was keen to read through Zot, Freak Brothers, and whatever books he bought from that shop when I was 8-10 years of age.

I have a keen nostalgic care for this type of art, but the dollars I have stay pointed at Marvel material. I hope the interest and value stay strong in this market. It's a part of our history.

  17. I've been tracking Bagley since 2019. Interior pages went from $1k-2k to these results in 2024. Of course it doesn't hurt that Venom is on both pages :) There was a venom splash that went for $40k 😢

These results give me hope that I can find a few more Bagley pages before they really get up there in value.
