  1. 😂 this went for $2000 ? Give or take 😆 jeez. Listen. Back in 1998 I cornered writer Mark Waid and asked him for a sketch. I wouldn't take no for an answer. I thought it would make for a good natured memory. mark was a great sport. And the words he wrote came from him. If interested in art done by a writer I'm your man. 😉 let's talk cheddar. Who's got the moola in the coola?
  2. I watched it. Dave's slow process really got to some publishers, ha ha. You can't argue with his genius though. Sad the way illness slowly took a way the vibrance of a really cool dude. Died way too soon.
  3. It could be you're right. But auctions make some of us do crazy things. I remember back in 2002 a friend called me in a panic. "I went crazy and did something stupid," he said. There was an ebay auction for a Ditko or Romita piece, I can't remember which. My friend looked at the page for days and in a moment of deranged fantastical thinking, he imagined himself a rich man and bid $16,000, which made him the high bidder. This man was responsible, worked hard, and paid his bills on time. That being said, he did not have that money in the bank if he won the auction. He'd only been collecting for a few years, and desire put his finger on the keyboard. I was really upset with him. We had to figure out how to cancel the bid in time. I don't know who won the BB Hawkman. Was it a cash flashing snob who is about to get their comeupance? Maybe. Was it a flipper? Sure jumped in at the wrong time pal. Or was it a huge art loving collector with a desire bigger than his wallet? I'm guessing most of you would say, "good, he deserves to take a bath too." I'm just saying, when you want something, it can tempt you to go beyond your means.
  4. These B&B pages with Hawkman are some of the most beautiful pages drawn. It's difficult to fathom making a financial commitment like this and then slapping it back up for auction so soon. I'm sure it could be of personal necessity, but surely one could not tire of something so beautiful so quickly?
  5. Back? The Weapon X stuff performed quite well. I wouldn't have guessed the trajectory on this one but more power to him.
  6. The drawings good, but you rarely see a Stan Lee signature. Should bring about spirited bidding.
  7. Kirby or Moebius ? https://twitter.com/KirbyKrackleArt/status/1695990420533072054?s=20
  8. Alex thank you for bringing relative, thought provoking info to the board. I love your collection, so much different from me but wonderful. I also am thinking of Lee Benaka and Vodou. Lee with the flip thread and his archives of OA. Vodou with many on point article links. Alex, always to the rescue when a boardie asks a question that can be answered by following Alex's link. This article really triggered a lot of feelings. On the one hand I'm disgusted by the continued links to wealthy families and Nazi purloined art. Than I'm thinking of how skillfully these "estates" hide art and use its perceived wealth to borrow and invest in other wealth building schemes. Can't really say much about the government involvement because I'm not taking the hook. I also don't want to goad some of you in to trouble. Read the article 😠 The most chilling is seeing an unprotected, uninformed wife completely defenseless because the husband never thought he would die. My "wealth" is a drop in their champion horses feed bucket. But I'm making sure my wife knows what to do and how to act if I drop dead. Finally, I loathe the way our collectibles are taxed. 28% + 4% and state taxes give or take? Cost basis can only help so much. I'm glad I don't have the problems some of these wealthy folks have. I don't envy or hate the rich at all. What I'm saying is money is their 24/7 job in the examples given. The families are brutal to each other. It did feel like organized crime in the examples. I'm on the floor playing with my niece and reading books. Life is short. Don't take on the ugly. Embrace the light. This is a hobby for me. I'm not trading in my soul for it.
  9. For the benefit of your heirs: Be your art in frames or in portfolio, attach or place written information explaining all the key elements behind each original art piece. The artist(s) names, published or other, price you paid and current FMV should be updated like insurance policies. If you purchased from an auction house or dealer, print out the description page from the website related to that piece of art. Your heirs can refer to that info God forbid something happens to you. In this way, your heirs don't have to be experts or rely on unsolicited "helpers" like the real estate agents contacting property owners in Hawaii right now.😡 encapsulation of art, respectfully, serves no real value to collectors, only to fee collectors.
  10. Very sad. Dan left his mark as an artist. It feels like we're losing all of our friends.😢
  11. Hey gang I'm taking investors and selling 50,000 shares at $999 each for this 1/1. They won't be available forever. The phone lines are lit and supply is limited. 🍇 + 🦍
