  1. This feels intentional and realistic to me. Cole understood girls like the one in the red suit would always keep at least one dumpy looking friend around. I'm sure this tactic was explained in a Seinfeld or Friends episode at some point.
  2. He did 3 issues. Get them now before the big spike. Lassie 20-22 are especially nice in that you get a great Gollub painted cover, and a back cover that's actually Baker artwork. Not rare at all, but mildly hard to find in grade for whatever reason.
  3. We decided to let the kids have a little extra tv time last night and they wanted to watch the last episode. It was a real slog to get to that last 3-4 minutes. My kids were even asking when something was going to happen. Probably a better show for teens or hardcore fans who can get into all the attempted emotionality and hyperphilosophical near constant 'mutant race' pontificating. I still found it all pretty shallow and unengaging. But I'm clearly in the minority with its 98%critic/93%audience ratings on rotten tomatoes and however many of these reddit commentators are not bots https://www.reddit.com/r/Xmen97/comments/1c0femu/xmen_97_s1e5_remember_it_episode_discussion/
  4. Will it make sense if I haven't seen Dozens of Beavers first?
  5. Decided to watch in on recommendation from a friend at work who's not really into all the comic book and hero stuff. Going to have to have words with this friend after watching the first four episodes. Goofy, contrived, stiff animation, cringe dialogue, and several of the characters are downright annoying. They even made Wolverine seem pretty uncool so far....I mean I guess that's comic books for you. My kids 5-9 are very into it, so I'll keep watching an episode or two a week as long as they bother to ask to watch it. I feel like they're trying to pull some mind trick by calling it X-Men 97 too, because it gives them an excuse for the low budget low quality "throwback" animation. Not digging the style at all tbh. I give the series a 3/10 so far.
  6. Just this one? I dunno, it's all so crazy now, but I can pretty much rationalize any GA price in the context of UF4 9.8s getting 3k. There's like 8 million of them.
  7. That's the beauty of these boards and the hobby in general. Where else can princes and upper middle-class paupers rub elbows together in such a way? Just don't post your latest Garfield OA wins if you want to be taken seriously, Or do post them if you don't care whether you're taken seriously or not. Or just sit back and watch a lot of people take themselves too seriously. I find the OA sub-forum probably the most entertaining section of these boards.
  8. Gone are the days of every single PCH cover that's perceived as even mildly hard to find goes huge no matter how poorly drawn or dopey it looks... but if any of the classics have cooled, they've only gone from like surface of the sun hot to the inside of a volcano hot.
  9. I think I prefer the original for this one...
  10. These'll go to the moon you'd think, although I'm still surprised that the CoC 19 cover went for only 170k, GA OA prices are a hard thing to predict and don't seem to follow the same rules as SA/BA/Modern OA at all in terms of price of the OA relative to the price of the comics. I personally like the CoC23 a lot more but I'm sure its the BC that'll go way bigger. So cool that these still exist anyway, and what a treat to see them come to market. https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/lee-elias-chamber-of-chills-magazine-23-cover-original-art-harvey-1954-/p/7374-14012.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/lee-elias-black-cat-comics-50-cover-original-art-harvey-1954-/p/7374-14014.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515
  11. As cynical as I am about CGC right now...I'm going to wager it doesn't happen. That noticeable tear on the top edge, that's listed in the grader's notes, would knock most GA books down to a 7.5. Can't see a path for upgrade to 9.0+ for this one. I'd also say the staple rust should preclude a higher grade, but CGC has clearly started giving staple rust where there's no migration an almost complete pass in the last few years. I've seen "rusted staple" in the notes on books graded as high as 9.4.

  13. I highly recommend the book 'Art of Glamour', aside from the great selection of Baker's work pictured shown in it (which goes well beyond the covers, and into his work outside comics as well), it has a lot of interviews with his contemporaries, professional and personal, from over the years. Looks like its out of print now but you can probably find it on ebay.
  14. He did. It's discussed a bit in Art of Glamour as I recall. Heart issues. And his work seemed to drop in quality after the death of Archer St. John, and the collapse of the company, and the downturn in the comic industry in general in the late 50s when it wasn't as easy to find work.
