  1. I might be misremembering but wasn't that only at $100 or so last night too? Seem to recall seeing it when I did my standard night before auction search sorted by "lowest bids first" to look for anything cool that might go low. Several of the FH books I was looking at hammered for up 5-10+ times their last night prices too. Lotta serious bidders apparently really hoping they could will the prices lower just by waiting...but to avail as always (the $72, and $62 current winning bids showing from my email this morning going about 20 times higher, such as it always is)
  2. I guess a better argument would be presenting an image of a higher graded book that went for the same or less that doesn't look as nice though. Tough to find images of a suitable comp, especially with all the price volatility in the last few years...anyway, I still suspect the winner of yesterdays 3.0 won't suffer a huge loss on resale for his choice to go big on this one. I dunno if choice 2 breaks 100k right now though.
  3. I guess it's a risk, and I know we hear this more often in reference to CGC overgrading, but 'buy the book not the grade' works both ways IMO. If this book is the centerpiece of your collection that you're going to show off...who's the happier owner right now, yesterdays 156k or November 2023s 144k?
  4. That 3.0 presented exceptionally well for the grade, pretty clean looking with pretty solid colors too. Most of the defects were well obscured spine splits and tape on the interior. I think any other 3.0 goes for way less right now.
  5. More record breaking prices for PL 17... almost 30k for a 3.5. Would a Showcase 22 or Sensation 1 even go for that much in the same grade now? Feel like I must have missed a movie or TV show announcement or something.
  6. .Posted in the wrong thread, too bad you can't hide your own posts anymore.......so guess I gotta say something. Interesting day anyway, lotta highs and lows, pretty volatile action. I didn't get the feeling the underbidder on the action 1 went on any sort of heavy consolation prize buying spree.
  7. Clearly CLink is the superior venue right??? In all seriousness, hats off for brokering that original deal it it was 2 mil cash. Does Josh sell houses? Not that I want to sell mine right now but I may look him up when the time comes.
  8. In light of the 1.2 million dollar (60%) loss on the highest graded ToS 39 CGC I’d like to update my prediction on this book to a more realistic $3.50.
  9. And a bath for the ages on the million dollar plus loss for the ToS 39.
  10. Several other 100k range losses so far too, the cap 1, the sensation 1. They’re still getting great prices, so worse for the consignor’s/flippers than the market overall maybe.
  11. Looks like most of the fight was already done. 6 million, an amazing result, but the ‘morning of/live auction’ run up of only another 15% or so was pretty atypical. Of course the bidding psychology at this level may be different than it is at the six figure or lesser levels.
  12. This series takes the prize for having the most poorly drawn GA comic covers, I think. Thank God I don't own any. Pretty sad, the basket's set to six feet and this guy is still gonna blow the dunk, because I think the ball is wider than the rim.
  13. Dang, I’m not sure any movie is worth that much. Invest in some very loose clothes that let you bring your own food and drinks in. It’s not hard to get away with.
  14. 3 year CGC plan: 2024 - more 9.9s. 2025 - Introduce 9.95s with pre-screen option. 2026 -introduce 9.96s with pre-screen option. ...
  15. Very nice. One of my favorite jungle genre covers and I think sorely underrated. Love the fluid motion and the babe. I like it better than the Baker Wild Boys even. The cover is attributed to George Olesen. I don't know if that's accurate or not. Never was able to find any other covers of his. Anyone know?
  16. History tells us there's probably a lot of bidding that remains, but now that we're just over the 5 million mark....dunno, it wouldn't totally shock me we don't see too many, or any, more bids. Would be anticlimactic for sure, although there'd be no need to shed tears for the consigner. We'll see how well this thought ages after a day!
  17. Perhaps it's time to rearrange a few words and update it to "Are romance comics the rarest?" since this is the defacto GA romance comic thread.
  18. Welcome to the genre! This feels like an invitation to post some of my favorite FH while we wait, although I don't ever really need an excuse. Still my favorite GA publisher and collecting focus on account of their great style, and relative affordability (particularly post ww2 books).
  19. That is one good lookin 4.5, and about as nice as it ever gets for Tec 31, where most blue label copies that come up seem to always look like train wrecks.
  20. I agree with most of the negativity, suspicion, conspiratorial comments etc. that people have posed so far. I'll even take it a step further and say that allowing 9.9 pre-screens would be hugely detrimental to CGC. Whatever short term money they might generate with such a transparent money grab, they would lose multiple times over from all the people they chase out of the hobby. Charging for pre-screening for 9.9s is an implicit promise to award more 9.9s than they do now, and doing so would not just devalue current 9.9s, but it could heavily devalue the 9.8 market as well depending on how much more frequent they become. It'd be a middle finger to everyone who spent money putting together 9.8 runs, or just 9.8s in general. Very short sighted and stupid imo. That said...for this current GSX-1 CGC 9.9 that doesn't really look the part. What price do people see it getting? Hard for me to see it getting less than 500k from the dumb money label chasers who gave us results like this during the pandemic. It's really hard for me to see this book going for less than what the 1 of 5 highest graded MS#5 got. How many of these big money label chasers even follow these boards? I also think GSX-1 has a lot of potential to attract whales from outside the typical comic buyers, although CC in its current state does not seem the best venue to do so.
