  1. A stupid move that would anger all the collectors who’ve spent fortunes amassing large collections of 9.8 runs. Whatever money they might generate making such a transparent money grab they’d lose in the long run I think. I think it would be a catastrophically bad decision that would drive a lot of people, and a lot of money, out of the hobby Theres way more money invested in 9.8s than 9.9s right now, magnitudes more. Can’t see how it pays off to give the middle finger to all the 9.8 owners as you drive down the value of those books by artificial creation of more 9.9s.
  2. No I have not watched that interview ... I had assumed you were just talking out your.....or being sarcastic. Apologies. Doesn't look to be official yet though, and I agree if they are going to pre-screen for 9.9s that's probably going to hurt the value on 9.9s and probably devalue 9.8s in general too. Would be a really dumb move from CGC for a lot of reasons. It would be an implicit guarantee that they'll have to hand out more 9.9s, otherwise why would anyone ever pay the price for the screening. And if there's more 9.9s, they obviously become less scarce, and if 9.9s are more common...9.8s lose their appeal to a lot of people as well maybe. I think it would upset a lot of the collecting base. I wonder if the service would be meant more for the people who send in 100 copies of a freshly printed modern book, vs sending in SA/BA/CA books expecting 9.9s? We'd have to see how its all implemented of course. That all said, even if they did implement the 9.9 screening...I'm still fully confident that as long as another 9.9 GSX-1 didn't come out before this auction closes, there's way more than enough dumb money in this hobby from people who never read these boards to propel this particular copy (that doesn't look much like you'd think a 9.9 would with the defects people have pointed out) well higher than the 264k the highest graded 1 of 5 MS5 got.

  4. Who knows. Would guess it’s owned by metro/CC because who would consign a book like that to them with the sorry state they’re in right now? Pure conjecture of course. I’d send it to HA if it was mine.
  5. I think that was a joke someone made. I’ve never used the ‘service’ but it currently says they don’t do it for 9.9s or 10s.
  6. But even more important to the dudes that'll bid this up of course, lets not forget... Again... just saying what I think'll happen based on observation of ludicrous behavior over the past few years. I do not own a copy, nor would I pay 20-30k for a 9.8, or 2-3k for a 7.0. I'll join everyone in this forum in the collective headshake when it happens...but its gonna happen. 500k+
  7. At least 500, easy. I will be shocked if it does not even get to 200.
  8. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not advocating for the wisdom of 500k plus for this book. I think it would be dumb, but I'm almost certain it will happen. We've come down from the pandemic era highs but did we forget this highest graded 1 of 5 already? It's Ghost Rider...not...the X-Men. Things like 157 vs 249 copies don't matter all when we're talking about fanatic bidding from a few whales looking for a one and only. The risk of another 9.9 is real, but probably not in the minds of these bidders. I can't see this book going for less than the MS 5 9.8. I'm pretty sure the DC comics presents 26 CGC 9.9 went on Comiclink for something like 30-40 times the price of a 9.8 as well.
  9. The IH 181 cgc 9.9 went for 150k at a time when 9.8s were going for less than 10k. I can’t see this going for less than 500. Not in this day and age. Not saying it’s worth that to me, but I’d be floored to see it go for less than 200.
  10. Can get yourselves a much closer look at the book from the magnified scans on the verification page for the book too. It looks a little brighter/better in the CGC scans...but I don't know which is more accurate. https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/4388239006/
  11. Looks sorta unexceptional but does it break a million? My guess would be yes.
  12. exactly Dunno, most action 1 owners probably can't afford to put in protection bids in this range, and there really weren't that many Action 1s that went at super inflated prices in the last few years. Just the rocket copy 6.0 that went for 3 mil, and a few lower graded that went for far less. I think the other 8.5 sold for around 3 mil also a year or two ago again didn't it? So no need to 'protect' that up to 5 mil...protection bids don't go as far as this one has already. I think its pretty possible you just have two very wealthy bidders who don't want to wait till the live session to get it over with. The auction could be done already now that we're over the psychological hurdle of 5 million. (it kind of went that way with the Frazetta Molly Hatchet painting). Of course I want to see it go for 10 mil... but I dunno.
  13. If it's not at a level well above where anyone expected it could possibly finish then I don't see what the worry is, and I don't think it is yet. I have occasionally employed the bid close to my actual max method right off the bat during an auction when there's only 1 or 2 items that I'm interested in at all. And I almost never participate in the live auctions. My thought has been, and of course I don't know if it works, that doing so might nudge people to go after something else instead. I've won some books even on HA where this bid was twice the eventual winning bid, and sometimes it's very close to it, and usually I lose. Don't do it often but could see it pretty easily being the case that you've got two guys here that don't care about money, and don't care about any other books in the auction. I do wonder how closely the bidding psychology of someone with 100-1000 times more money than I have could still match my own in terms of a bidding on a book at the same relative value to our respective wealth. Could it be the same just with 2 or 3 zeros added to it all. Has anyone watched enough of the previous million dollar book sales closely enough to know, does it always come down to two whales duking it out in real time during the live auction, or do proxy bids ever take it? I'm not sure I could do my bomb bid method over a million even if I had that money....but I dunno, these people live in a different world than I do.

  17. As far as I know. The previous high for a 7.0 was 60k, and over the last 2 years a few 4.5 to 5.0s went between 20-30k, Hard to see this latest price level holding, but then that's what I said for the 5.0 that went for 30k too.
