  1. Thanks for displaying these awesome Adams covers. I had all thirteen of these books in CGC, graded 9.0 - 9.6 at one time. I ended up selling 121, 123 - 130 during the pandemic. I've since re-acquired 124 in 9.2 CGC, and am still looking for 121, 123 and 125.

Dale Roberts has a 123 9.4 Mass. copy that I'm eying. I believe there is a 9.8 125 on eBay. That leaves 121, which is probably the hardest  issue to find in high grade after 116.

Speaking of which, I'm glad I held onto my slabbed 9.0 116. Like you said, very difficult to find in high grade.

  2. Quite right about this book being all too common in high grade. On the CGC census, there are 293 graded copies. Out of that, 4 are 9.9, 90 in 9.8 and 97 in 9.6. A slabbed 9.8 you could probably pick up for $100, don't know what a 9.9 would fetch.

  3. Same comment that I made! Ha-Ha! Nice coincidence.

Well at least you now have a source for this info.

I have slabbed copies of Heart Throbs 120 (9.0) and Secret Hearts 134 (9.4). Both have covers done by Adams. There are claims that he also did the cover for Girls' Romances 134 and Young Romance 154. The GR looks much more like Jay Scott Pike while the YR, though looking like Neal's work, may have been done by MR. Giordano.

  4. dover - I'm not sure where it is listed. I got this info from another CGC member years ago who had all the DC romance books with Neal Adams involved. I can't even remember the name of this person.

Like you said, hopefully it's on the inside.

  5. Thanks for the compliments guys!

I was outbid on this book in the current Comic Link auction. Winning bid was $162, a rather high price for that grade. A 9.8 sold at auction at Heritage a year ago for $360, including the 20% buyer's premium. So without the premium the winning bid would have been around $300. I was kicking myself afterwards for not bidding on that copy.

Oh well, another high grade copy will come up eventually on the market.

  6. Congrats on your five wins in the Pedigree auction Professor! I figure the crown jewel in this auction had to be be the ASM 20 (first Scorpion ), CGC 9.8, WP Curator pedigree. Winning bid was 65,500!! Funny thing is, collectors expect the Scorpion  to be appearing in the next Spider-Man movie, but there is no verification of that. It must be nice to have that kind of spending money! Good luck with future attempts at acquiring ASM 101.

  7. Nice acquisition, Professor! I remember buying this issue at my local convenience store off a spinner rack back in 1973 ( that book being long ago discarded). I agree with you about this book appreciating in value. I just might go for a 9.4 copy myself, along with 125, the conclusion of the story. Best of luck with your bidding in the upcoming Pedigree auction!

  8. Professor - Just thought I'd let you know about the upcoming auction at Pedigree Comics featuring a huge selection of ASM, all in either 9.6 or 9.8. You might want to check it out. Happy collecting!

  9. war comics - Not likely. The CGC 6.0 SS on ebay has been sitting there for two years. Which means that nobody is interested and sees no value in it. Now, if it were a 9.0 SS, I'm sure it would have been snatched up very fast. I don't know why more high grade copies turn up slabbed. There are only 6 on the CGC census. I guess I just have to wait for scrape1 to part with his 9.0 copy some day.
