Just got the one @celluloidbuff - he was signing at the Cincinnati Comic Expo.

I highly recommend keeping an eye on https://comiconomicon.com/universe/4/Star_Wars for upcoming appearances - he pops up occasionally. Quite a few people (are you a 'celebrity' if you stood in a an alien costume for 10m 40 years ago?) show up at lower profile shows that it's hard to find a facilitator for.

& thx for the note on the Emperor book - I'm more annoyed that the crease happened while the book was at CGC than the 9.4 - I have pics of the original book and it looks flawless, but there's no recourse now...

Thanks for the link! That'll be handy for sure.

And you're absolutely correct on the creature actors / puppeteers / effects people at smaller shows without facilitators. I've been super lucky with some of those I've been able to add. Have Hargreaves on a few others in my collection, just not this newest iteration of IG-88.

Did the crease on SW #50 break color? Would it be worth a press and re-grade?

    Ian McDiarmid:

Was hoping for at least a 9.6 on this one (no noticeable defects...), but unfortunately, this book picked up a 'very small crease right bottom of front cover' during its time at CGC/CCS....

    Still looks nice tho.

I like the choice of ink color on this one too - matches the figure background and name banner. It really pops against that really dark costume element.

Don't fret the 9.4 - this is a notoriously tough book because of the super thin cover stock that is prone to color rub.

IG-88 by Bill Hargraves - thanks to AlphaOmega for the facilitation and the extra pic of the the book actually being signed!

Did you have more than one signed by chance?

I'd love to pick one up. Where was this signing?

I've been caught up in family stuff (mom just died after an 18-month ordeal) and haven't been paying attention to con appearances.

  4. They've got quite a lineup of guests from Star Wars, mostly creature actors, Ewoks and puppeteers, plus some Star Trek and Land of the Lost cast members you may not have run into before.

I'm interested in getting several of the Star Wars action figure variant comics signed and witnessed for submission to CGC: Amanaman, Tusken Raider, Jawa, Darth Vader, Yoda, Jabba the Hutt, Boba Fett, Barada, Gamorrean Guard, Stormtrooper, Snowtrooper, Klaatu, Nien Nunb, Ree-Yees, Nikto, Yak Face, Max Rebo, Bossk.

  5. Really minor one here, and I truly think it was just a typo.

Could you look at the score for Star Wars (2020) #30 Action Figure Variant Cover? It's currently listed as 12 points when other blue label 9.8 action figure variants from same collection usually are given 32 registry points. Have a small screen shot to show comparisons for comics around that issue.

Yup, that was a typo.  Fixed now, thanks for letting me know.

  6. When I watched the piece, I got the impression that the shipping containers were something the son rented to store the collection more centrally. The safe looks brand new too. I don't think either the containers or the safe are at the family home. I agree with the earlier boardies who said all the graded ones were done after his death and after appraisal of keys.

    Just my 2 cents.

  7. Yep - it's my must-attend midwest show every single year, one of the smoothest run shows I've attended anywhere.

If you haven't already purchased tickets and they're still available, the Fast Pass is worth its weight in gold. Reserved seating at all the panels, allows you jump the line for celebrity autographs (but not creators), discounts on Planet merch, swag bag.

Better yet, if you're planning to get signatures and would like them witnessed for CGC Signature Series, Dan Partouche and his crew from OneStop Comic Shop will be there taking submissions.

  8. In the Star Wars Action Figure Variant Covers registry set, there are three listings for issue #51, two of which I believe are the same book, just labeled differently.

Star Wars (2015) #51 Variant Edition (this is how the majority of graded comics for this Chief Chirpa action figure variant are labeled)

Star Wars (2015) #51 Action Figure Variant Cover B (this is only listed in one registry set - unable to contact owner for a photo for verification purposes as they have that disabled for their profile)

Star Wars (2015) #51 Action Figure Variant Cover is correct (Jabba the Hutt w/ Salacious Crumb) and does not need to be looked at; included here only so all three listings for that issue are stated.

If you find the two top entries are the same book, could you delete one slot and make the other labeled books eligible for the remaining slot?

    Darth Sidious himself... Ian McDiarmid!

I love when you can convince them to add their character name (either in-person or through a facilitator). A great facilitator for this is @Par2ch, as he'll ask for you if that's what you want, and he seems to have great success with it.

Some of the bigger names are charging hundreds extra for that little bit of time scribbling (*cough* McGregor, *cough* Ford).

I loved this whole Galactic Icons variant collection. It's a really attractive set and something I might pursue in the vein of my action figure variant collection trying to get actor sigs.

Need more cons though! I haven't been to one since SWCA in May, mostly due to my mom's health issues. I do have Planet booked, hotel secured. Crossing fingers nothing serious keeps me away in March '23.

  10. So surprised not to see this topic already created, because I know he's helped out quite a few boardies with their collections.

On to the kudos! Bought a Star Wars #2 Action Figure Variant CGC 9.8 SS signed by Harrison Ford. Professional and courteous communication throughout. Was willing to work with me on payment options. Shipped quickly, packaged like a collector so it arrived in gorgeous condition. Chag has been a huge help to me throughout my AFV collection build. This is just the latest (and greatest!) of them.

Oh, and if you're interested in a fantastic graphic novel written by a fellow boardie, check out Chag's Soldiers Unknown : https://www.amazon.com/Soldiers-Chag-Lowry/dp/1942279280

  11. When I collected sports cards, I would use a small foam piece that could be bent to fit however many cards were in a given set, and then it would expand to fill void. A comic box would require a much larger piece of foam obviously, so I don't know how economical a solution like that would be. Like many of the others here, I just use backing boards new in package.

  12. Dan, this is such a nice thing for you to do. His death certainly came as a shocker. JDF always had long lines of adoring fans at various cons. He took lots of extra time with younger children. I don't think I ever saw someone leave his booth or a photo op without a broad smile on their face.

If anybody out there is struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts, you can reach out confidentially to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) any time day or night. We really need to destigmatize mental health issues.

  13. Could we please add a standalone Swamp Thing (2021) set? Some of the issues are in the Swamp Thing (Complete) already.
