I'm in the camp of getting the single higher grade copy. A similar analogy for me is i'm really into high end audio equipment. In the past, especially with more limited budget, I would buy a mid-range DAC or amp and/or multiple mid-tier headphones or speakers, rather than bite the bullet and spend up for what I really wanted (higher end, but a stretch monetarily). In the end, the knowledge that there was something better out there would gnaw at me, and I'd end up upgrading to the higher end one anyways. This resulted in: 1) costing me much more than if I had just bought the higher end one first (friction / transaction costs of selling the mid-range one plus often the higher end one is now even more expensive), 2) All the time I spent with the mid-range one, I could've been enjoying the higher-end one. A bit different of course, but I think some relatable takeaways.

Anyone get sigs on top of blue-label slab? Tried searching for this, but didn't find anything. Does anyone ever get signatures over-top of their universal blue-label slabs? (ie. on the plastic slab itself?) Main reasons I'm thinking about doing so: - Already have a blue-label slab of the book (if books are raw, definitely makes sense to go yellow label from the start) - Just for my personal collection to hang on wall - Don't want to crack it to get yellow label and: 1) pay slabbing / shipping fees again; 2) risk potential downgrade (especially with my 9.8s); 3) deal with arranging for witnesses (even though this is generally painless most of the time); 4) pay a higher autograph fee (as many artists / creators charge a higher fee when getting graded) - Allows me to get the signature personalized to me, which I like for my personal collection (and given it's for my PC, I know it's authentic) - If for some reason I want to sell down the road, I still have the existing blue label, and can just "wipe away" the signature. I also like the energy / exchange with the creator when I ask to get it personalized - even though it's a wrong assumption on their part (as discussed on many threads here, including the Starlin thread and the C2E2 "no-window-bags" thread), they think you're a "real fan" I guess this is more unique to my personal use case (signatures more just for my own PC, I really enjoy meeting the creators myself even though I really appreciate facilitators who help get books signed I couldn't otherwise). Just curious if any one else does this?

Anyone facilitating for signatures at this con? Out of town this weekend, but would otherwise have loved to go and get Whilce Portacio's sig!

In general, how "late" can you submit books for on-site grading and still get them by the end of the con? Does it have to be on Fri or could you feasibly submit books on Sat morning as well? I know this can vary based on how busy CGC is and how many books are submitted for on-site grading, but wondering if anyone has a sense based on past cons with on-site grading? Thanks

Just to be clear, does that mean you no longer have to be a CGC member (with paid subscription, able to submit books yourself) to get CGC SS done at conventions? You can just show up with your books, and pay the CGC fee at the booth? If that's the case, will they figure out return-shipping charges then, and you can pay those as well?

No, comes out in July 11 (final issue #12 comes out on May 31), so guess they need a little over a month to put the TPB together.

Yea, I still have a few reader copies of the X-Men #1 various covers as well. Jim Lee's volume 2 X-Men was one of the first (and the longest) runs I've collected, maybe #1 - well into the #60s (through Age of Apocalypse and Onslaught crossovers). Fun times.

Thanks to this thread, I also bought the first TPB of this last week (a steal at US$10), which includes #1 - #6. Just started it, really enjoying it. I'm sure I'm going to fly through it - question is whether I wait until mid-July for volume 2, or pickup 7-11 (I think 11 came out this week?) at my LCS

Kevin can correct me if I'm getting any of the details wrong, but there were 2 packages, 1 for $99 and 1 for $149. The $99 was supposed to be for unwitnessed sigs (I think up to 3), and the $149 was for witnessed sigs (also up to 3) for SS slabs. I think there was some confusion / disorganization, and so everyone ended up in the same line, and some people who paid the $99 were sneaking in witnesses.

I just read through most of the FanExpo Dallas thread just to see what happened there, and the 2 Jim Lee packages that were offered (and how those went). Looking forward to seeing when these come available and how they'll be structured.

First post! Live in Toronto, and have gotten back into my comic collection as a nostalgic child of the 80's... (rule of 25!). Really pumped for this, will be my first con of any kind! Jim Lee was my hero growing up - hoping to get my first SS of my Uncanny #248 (just for me and the wall on my man-cave!)
