  1. ...and they shall forever remain a mystery.... I guess I'll need to pull out my stereo microscope and start looking for fingerprints on my comic books.
  2. What is a fingerprint? This is a total noob question (and I've searched the forum to try to answer this on my own) but I've read a lot of chatter about fingerprints on covers and the resultant grade deduction. These seem to be fairly common. Does anyone have a good image of what it is I should be looking for? I'm assuming these are light smudges but I've not been able to find a good image/example. Thanks!
  3. PGM Many Ghosts of Doctor Graves #1 Had this one in my collection for a while. Surprisingly very little damage to the spine. The staples look brand new and there is little to no spine roll. Some dings and a small tear on the top edge. I think it's in pretty good shape but will withhold my novice guess until after I see some other comments. Thinking about getting it graded by CGC.
  4. Thanks all. I got a Star Wars #4 35 cent variant out of the bunch also. There was some neat stuff in there just all low grade. Just getting back into comics over the past two years since a 10 year hiatus. Nice having a group to talk to.
  5. That's basically what I'm leaning towards. I batted around the idea of selling it but...gosh...I'm so high on just finding one it would be hard to let go.
  6. Thanks for the feedback! I bought the Overstreet guide to grading and am trying to learn to grade but it all seems so subjective. Do you think a book in this condition would benefit from pressing or is it to far gone? I know little to nothing about CGC's pressing service.
  7. PGM Star Wars #1 35 cent variant So, I have two questions here. A) I found this in a lot I just bought. Guy had SEVERAL key issues from the bronze/copper age but they are all in this condition or slightly better. Would this be a 1.0? I'm new to grading. B) Is this worth trying to have pressed and/or graded and slabbed? On the one hand it's in pretty bad condition and doesn't seem worth it BUT from a preservation standpoint (being a relatively rare issue) I think it should maybe be sealed and preserved.
  8. The declared value thing is messing with me also? I'm VERY new to grading comic books but I have a few I want slabbed. I think they are worth a little (maybe around $800) but they may be worth less...I don't know. I'd hate to rack up a bill for $1000 for grading a handful of comics that are actually worth $200 a piece.
