  1. BTW - I got so caught up in talking about Paris and Texas that I forgot to make a request. Can you contact your friend to see if he's ready to sell that book to a Rawhide Kid fan?
  2. Yes, I have to agree about the meat in Texas - absolutely fantastic. Does "LA" in your post mean Los Angeles or Louisiana? I ask because I was born in Louisiana and most of my relatives are in Louisiana. If it's Louisiana - where did you guys go? I'm assuming New Orleans?
  3. Aahh, yes. I should have caught on to that. However, since you're located in Paris and the wording was "... when I left SA behind ..." I was thinking maybe you were referring to San Antonio (SA). I asked about it just in case it was San Antonio - my wife's from San Antonio. Wow, five years in Paris.... that's a lot of really great meals. My wife and I are "foodies" and we loved the food in Paris (what foodie doesn't), but I never did get over how small the portions were in the restaurants. Of course, that's just the American culture coming out. I'm not a large person... I just love to eat. Thanks again for the information on the comics.
  4. Wow, that's an awesome looking book - just gorgeous. Thanks for sending me the link. Also, that's great that you sold it to a friend - hopefully he lets you see it from time to time. Sorry to ask a newbie question, but what does "SA" stand for? Also, how long have you been in Paris? I was stationed in Belgium a number of years ago and we went to Paris quite a bit during that time - beautiful city. Thanks also for the wwcomics.com link.
  5. Wow, that's awesome. I'd love to see that book become available because I'd love to have a shot at it. I wonder where it is now. Hopefully someone that really appreciates the genre owns it. Sorry you don't still have it. Not that I want to date myself, but I used to read Rawhide Kid comics when I was a kid (the original Marvel version) so I'd like to collect a couple for display. In addition to this book I'm also looking for a Rawhide Kid #17 in an upper level grade to high grade, but those are hard to find.
  6. Apologies, but I don't have a scan of the back, so please grade based on just the front. Pages are OW-W. Thanks, Todd
  7. Thanks Dan. I appreciate the information. As a follow up I have another question, which I asked earlier today on the Silver Age War Comics thread, but thought the SGT Fury crowd might see it here first. What in your opinion is the true market value for SGT Fury #1 in a 7.5, 8.0, and 8.5 grades, respectively? I understand that market value is whatever people are willing to pay, but that doesn't always reflect true value. Do you think it's on par with the current price guide? I guess I'm trying to establish a goal price point for each of the listed grades - a price point that's fair for both the buyer and seller - because I just don't have a good feel for that yet. I'm sure if I'm willing to wait a number of months (to your point about being patient ) then I could find a pretty decent deal, but I'm really hoping to find something before Boston Comic Con because I'd like to get Stan Lee to sign it. Todd
  8. I'm an old collector getting back into collecting after a 25+ year hiatus (although I don't think it really counts as a hiatus for that long ) and I have a question. I'm planning to get a SGT Fury #1 and would prefer to get one with a higher grade (7.5, 8.0, or 8.5), but I see that they've been going for quite a bit lately. Obviously, market value is whatever the market is willing to pay, but my question is: what do you think is the true value range right now of a SGT Fury #1 in the three grades I listed (unsigned, certified by CGC or CBCS)? I imagine there will be a number of differing opinions on this, but I'm just trying to get a sense of whether or not the market is overpriced on the book right now. I've only been researching it for the last couple of weeks so I don't have the pricing history for much other than the listed sales on EBay and Heritage Auction. I told my wife last week that the bug took about ten years too long to bite me. Thanks in advance for any and all thoughts and opinions. I was going to post this on the SGT Fury #1 thread, but thought I'd get more response posting it here. Should I also post the question there? I forgot to mention that I'm asking the above question without looking at the 2016 price guide, which I just received today. I just took quick glance at the prices listed in the guide and it appears the auction prices are pretty close to those listed in the guide; however, the guide is just that - a guide, so I don't know if some of you will have different opinions about the true value. Todd
  9. Just to clarify your comment about EBay. I agree that generally speaking you have to be cautious with EBay purchases, but I would think that any of the CGC or CBCS certified comics would not be a risk (as long as they arrive with the seal untampered). Would you agree with that assumption? Also, do you believe the current pricing at the auctions (like Heritage Auctions) is close to the current true value? I ask because it seems like some of them seem to be much higher than I'd expect - are they inflated or just reflective of their true value? Thanks, Todd
  10. Dan, Thanks for the information. My research efforts have been all over the place the last week or so and I really need to start narrowing my focus so I appreciate any sites provided that helps me narrow that focus. I'll check out the sites you recommended. Thanks also for the insight on the Con pricing. Nice copy you have there BTW. Thanks again, Todd
  11. Apologies in advance if this is answered elsewhere - I searched the forums and didn't find it. Outside of EBay, what sites would you recommend I monitor/track for a nice (6.0 - 8.0 range) #1? I'm returning to collecting after about 25 years... pre-online auctions, pre-mainstream Internet access for research, ... well, pre-everything used today I'd imagine. Anyway, the last week or so, I've been researching this and it seems that most of the mainstream auction sites seem to favor the seller more than the buyer, so are there any sites you'd recommend I check and monitor? Related to that - I'm going to my first Con in August (Boston Comic Con) and I'm planning to have Stan Lee autograph this particular book if I can find it at an acceptable price by then. What are everyone's thoughts on attempting to obtain it prior to the Con vice looking for one at the Con? I'm sure each Con if different as the inventory changes, but is it rare to find it at the Cons or fairly common? Also, thoughts on price for the book at a Con vice online (cheaper? Same?) - I realize it will depend on a lot of factors, but as a general rule I'd think it would be cheaper at the Cons.
