Oliver REED! He haunts me. That guy was in a lot of movies. He was in a knight movie I saw when I was younger (BlackArrow?) and GOR! I once lost a $500 trivia contest LITERALLY due to not knowing 'Name the actor who died during the filming of Gladiator, on location in Italy, drinking at a bar.' But seriously, sharp framing job.

"Flipper's Regret" would have made a nice title. My first thought when I read that; I might've waited another 10 years to tell that story. In the distant past I moved art I bought within 3/4 months of owning, simply because I didn't like it in hand, didn't read the same, etc... I shall be more cautious now. Thanks for the multiple shipment's angle, I'd honestly not given that obvious concern any thought. I'm certain it's more prevalent when encasing an item in a plastic vault. Grades seem to matter quite a bit more there (to most) as well. I understand grades/preservation matter more to some; but with art I believe a lot more leeway is given due to it's singular nature, when obviously it should have the maximum care and preservation. And 'consider the source' does mean something to many as well. There are some lines to cool (and bold) for even I to cross...

Is the term 'serial flipper' allowed in this conversation? The Subby incident seems like a singular event, recounted with joy/melancholy/nostalgia at the eventual outcome. Buying something every 2 days, and bumping every single piece for sale is either 'serial flipping' or simply someone running a business using their own pricing model. I'm assuming you're not considering EE (sorry out for 10+ years) as a dealer, but as often as I see him listing items for sale... Is there a difference? I'd hate to see a single art dealer that didn't start as a collector... How can you possibly do this and not be passionate about it is beyond me. I am not a dealer, but I can honestly state I never sold a piece for under what I paid for it; primarily because I love what I buy and therefore don't part with them for long periods. I don't know the parties, I have no network, I Just have my 2.5 cents (inflation)

(I believe)...They raise the price because they genuinely don't want to sell it, only provide the illusion that it is for sale (even if at multiples of market value). Money isn't important to them it would seem, merely control of the art. If someone shows interest and they raise the price a common sense buyer leaves. The fool with too much money pays it immediately, justifying their prices further and they laugh their asses off waiting for the next fool. They then use the fools money to buy things at real prices, jack up 500% and repeat....and repeat. They sell to those with a NEED for a piece of art and no concern for it's price, or those whom money truly isn't an object. I wouldn't even imagine entering into a trade with them either...

Little did I know that every single auction I was outbid on from around '98-03 was them. Always, as in almost exclusively for YEARS. And as soon as it's in their hands... it's gone. Just consider anything in their hands to be in a museum. It is not for us to reason why, only to lament that others with more money will ALWAYS control this market once a piece is in their hands. Ownership is 9/10 of the law, and 10/10 of the price control. Their reasoning is theirs, and I am not going to judge, I don't know what I'd do if I had that kind of money...except, what they're doing, without the 'crazy' markups and a lot more focused....My greatest fear is that this will someday, somehow??, be an insurance claim from hell.... just an evil, scary thought from someone who may have read too many crime novels as a kid. At least it's worth nothing there is a dealer who pisses off the dealers who occasionally me off... As in my greatest piece I was (health) forced to sell at 2k 6 years ago is now 9k on a major dealer's site and gone forever... A dealer no one ever mentions in these terms and never will. Saw a cover on ebay I wanted, spent 6 days talking the wife into letting me bid on it, then it's gone with 26 hours to go...traded off ebay to this dealer, next on that site at a 150% markup in one week. But that's just business as far as I'm concerned, and I leanred my lesson to use back channels to get what you want...these cool guys have a plan/vision/plot/scheme yet to be determined...just my 3c (150% markup, see what I did there?)

Another of my favorite features are the instructional, step by step videos that are preloaded onto the touch / view screen. I am fairly certain I've gotten the best deal I'll get all year already, unless some guy tries to sell an Alex Russ painting again. Sigh.

There was a delay in my order, but it arrived Thursday. It was indeed a little larger than I had thought (delekkerste those paintings are HUGE)! I had the crop issue as well, even when specifying 11 x 17, but a quick full function upload and selecting 'entire glass' solved that. I saved those setting for everyday scan and now it's auto. This things scanning is fast, 3 times faster for same dpi than my old HP scanner. My previous all in one is currently in the corner, rocking back and forth, leaking what I can only hope is yellow (with a hint of cyan) ink, repeatedly printing something along the lines of 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy'...hmmm...think I'll be getting rid of that one. THANKS again for the heads up, and I sincerely hope this is a sign of things to come for the year!

I shopped new A3 stand alone scanners and simply decided I'd rather have a nice page of art instead. The all in one, though bulky, doesn't take up anymore desk space for a fraction of the cost. Buying a stand alone for oversize art (13x18 I'm assuming) is going to cost a cover.

Somewhere, right now in America...some guy just spent $500 on a pair of 'Big Baller' Sneakers. You may charge what you wish for anything, especially if you create it. We don't have to buy at ANY price, I certainly would never as I deem it to be absurdity (in both sneakers and art). Salesmen sell, its what they do, questioning their methods only leads to more publicity. If seeing something just released at a LARGE price, it would have to be perfect for you and in that event, price nor common sense matter. IF it has a big tag, it needs to be skilled and styled not just one or the other in my eyes. I know when I saw the Bianchi variant to Defenders 2, I didn't care about anything except it being on my wall. So, to each his own, but I am certainly glad mine isn't SGM...

This was released the same week as ASM 252 I believe and technically ties as the first appearance. There were 3/4 Spidey titles - MTU and ASM came out together, Spectacular and Web 2 weeks later...I think. I owned the MTU 141 pencil prelim (the one you mention currently at Romitaman site) until 200x. I remember inquiring as to the finished version when I bought the piece (mid/late 90's) and was told it was in a private collection and probably wouldn't see the light of day, but nothing else was disclosed or offered. I can't recall as to exactly whom I spoke with when I purchased, they were in the SF area, and seemed to know the Adams/Chin/etc crew rather well (they had a studio name I think).... Sigh...those were the days you could scoop something like this off of ebay due to Black Spidey as the item title for $305 with a last second bid...

Once looooong ago, a commission took place. I got it, I thought something was henky (aka...our hat/beard). I CONTACTED the artist, SPOKE to the artist, explained that I loved 99.9% of anything I'd ever seen done by him and that it was a tragedy the commission wasn't one of them and explained our hat/beard, he agreed he could have done more to fix/disappear our hat/beard. He sent another PERFECTLY executed and I returned the first. Done,hugs,happiness. Communicate with the artist directly and you will get a better outcome. Its okay to be critical, not okay to look for things to be critical about, my 2.5c (inflation).

I thought that as well, but didn't think it would solve the issue I was trying to address. If art changes hands it could simply be in the mix owner by owner. Rather...I guess I'm thinking of something along the lines of best 'new' art of 2017. I'm not harshing, just got me to thinking it would be cool to see a group of THIS years best somewhere, on a year by year basis. To be able to see the contents of that from the past would be fun I believe.

Any thought or merit to doing this on a newly published basis...As in, best of 2017...created/published in 2017?

Wow, that FF 58 recreation is ridiculously good. How backed up is Bruce? Time frames? Is this price range a special price for friends and artists? Just wow. Sorry, I gush, but that is incredibly well done. And the giclees are...to quote a friend..."I say thee NAY!"....
