  1. Attached was a gift to me from Darick Robertson. Here's the story.... So, back in 2001, I started chatting with Darick on AIM. It was good, typical BS about comics and Transmet. Around that time, I saw an incredible gift that he gave Garth Ennis, a birthday (I think) card featuring Jesse and Spider Jerusalem drinking. My wish was to have a similar drawing of Spider and Cassidy. I asked him for it, and he said that I'd have to wait until commission time came around. So, I waited and waited (for what seemed like years, but it was really weeks--I was only 21). Finally, he mentioned at one point that he wanted to see Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker unedited. There was a big deal about it being pulled / recut because of violence. I had a screener and offered to make him a copy. He told me that he'd do my sketch for a trade. Well, I sent my book off to him in August 2001--to NYC. Then, the unthinkable happened on Sept 11. I realized that New Yorkers' lives were turned upside down, so I really didn't want to contact him. It took months, but my book made it back to me. Complete with the attached drawing and about six other pieces from friends of his (Amanda Conner is the coolest, I think).... I used to have two Preacher pages that I sold a long time ago. I'm sad that this is my only Dillon left, but I'll always cherish it. Anyhow. Enjoy!
  2. Here are a few of mine. I'm a school librarian (middle school), and I like to get commissions for the library. These are just from the past year or so--there are others, too. I'll post what I can find online right now... More later and my other collection, focused on Prez, the First Teen President (yeah, I actually sunk a lot of money into that theme, too--for whatever reason).
  3. Wow! That's a ton to think about in here. It's made this decision infinitely harder than I initially thought that it would be. Regarding page quality: my copy is rated off-white to white. I've included a few photos. Like I said--I have held on to it more than anything as a sentimental thing. I wanted to sell it to flip for a IH 181, and I still may do so--at the same time, I'm thinking that I may hold until November to see if Justice League changes anything on this playing field. Here are a few photos. In other news: a year ago, my doctor mentioned a friend of his that inherited a large comic collection from his brother. The dude knew nothing about comics and asked me to take a look. Today, the guy finally got around to having me over. Among other things, he had a GL #1, Batman Adventures #12, Incredible Hulk 181...... I only looked a bit! He was going to sell the entire collection for $1000! I could have taken it off his hands, but that would've been karma coming back at me. As things stand, he told me that I can keep the Batman Adventures (likely a 9.0 - 9.2) if I spend 5 hours at his house, pulling the books that shouldn't be sold in bulk. Not bad! Thanks so much to all of you! This has been educational!
  4. Good morning, all! Hope I'm posting this in an appropriate place... I've come looking for some advice. When I was 16 (over half my life ago), I was given a copy of Showcase 22 for Christmas. GL was my favorite character for years, and it was a huge gift. Since getting it, it has--literally--sat in a drawer. Last year, I got it graded, and it came to a 3.0. I'm 37 now, and I view the book as an investment for my daughter going to college (in about 10 years). I know that the book is roughly worth 1500-1600. I've been thinking about selling it now and turning the profit into a copy of Incredible Hulk 181 (probably looking to spend a bit to get an 8.0). In your opinion, 10 years from now, which would be better piece to have (Showcase 22 or Hulk 181). I understand that there are far more of the Hulk out there, but Wolverine is more popular than GL.... Thoughts?
  5. Hi, My name's Tom. I've been collecting comics since I can remember (first trip to a shop was when I was five days old, apparently). At 37 now, comics overrun my house, but I have them mostly under control. Trying to shed the collection down a bit, as I got a bad lesson in what happens if they're left (someone looking after my grandma stole about a quarter of my dad's old collection from his family home). More than anything now, I collect commissions--it's my thing. I'm a school librarian, and my theme is characters reading books. I'll post some sometime!
  6. This page makes me both sad and sick. Once upon a time, back in the year of 2000 or so, I owned a few Preacher pages. Sold them at a con to get money for--whatever. Don't have the books in front of me, but one of them was the page in which Cassidy gets his first stuck in Freddy Allen's mouth (the actual punch page; panel was the bottom quarter of the page). I also had the splash page (final page of an issue) in which Cassidy goes to make a proposition to God. It's basically a silhouette of Cassidy's back in a church with him looking at the crucifix. Sigh.
