  1. ?????? Okay. Yes, all three women, Carol Kamala and Monica, will be strong women. As I've said in previous posts, I think gone are the days where side characters exist to only serve the mission and emotions of the main character. In this way, Kamala and Monica will be more important to the emotional story than Sam Wilson and James Rhodes in older MCU films. We already know there is emotional tension between Carol and Monica as evidenced from WandaVision. But make no mistake, this is Carol Danver's movie. Kamala Khan will have just had her Disney+ show. We'll see more of what Monica can do in Secret Invasion. What in anything makes you think the story of this film is about the firing/demotion of Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau or Kamala Khan taking her title? Other than your obvious dislike of Carol Danvers' Captain Marvel? Maybe Marvel Studios should just rename themselves Rogue Studios. Yeah, Marvel! Let's screw over Carol Danvers again! She didn't have enough of a hard time in the comics with the rape thing and having her powers sapped away! Sorry, but I'm afraid Carol Danvers will still be Captain Marvel at the end of The Marvels, will soon be the next leader of the new Avengers team, and that the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive... There are spotty similarities between the MCU Captain Marvel and Green Lantern. The similarities actually go back to 1968. In the first MCU film, Vers is part of an alien special forces corps. Carol is an Air Force pilot like Hal Jordan. But that's about it. Hal Jordan isn't the most powerful superhero in his universe the way Captain Marvel is. Green Lantern just makes stuff up with his little ring. Captain Marvel's powers are more similar to Superman or Wonder Woman, more raw power. Green Lantern is part of a larger Green Lantern Corps dedicated to truth and justice in the galaxy. Captain Marvel is not. So no, Carol Danvers is not the equivalent of Green Lantern in the MCU. In the Marvel Comics, Stan Lee charged the Conways in 1977 to turn Carol Danvers into a superhero so that Marvel could have their own Wonder Woman, who was taking the world by storm on TV, because Marvel did not have a solo female heroine major enough to have her own comics series. Carol Danvers is Marvel's Wonder Woman. Probably a little more like Superman. And the The Marvels title reminds me of Shazam's own Marvel Family. But Green Lantern? No. Sorry.
  2. Do you seriously think that, as progressive and fair minded as Kevin Feige Victoria Alonso and the rest at Marvel Studios are, that they are going to just diss their one alive solo major female super-hero as you're suggesting? You haters really will turn any news whether positive or not into the end of the world for this character that you guys hate for no good reason other than it's trendy. Wait, maybe there is good reason, fear that a woman will take the forefront of a Cinema Universe that's been fronted by white dudes for the past 10 years. Can't have that, can we? First, as I said above, all MCU films have become "buddy" films. The first Captain Marvel was a "buddy" film with Nick Fury, Maria Rambeau, and Talos. Multiverse of Madness will be a "buddy" film featuring Dr Strange, Wanda Maximoff, Jerico Drumm, Clea, and whoever else they want to throw in, I hear America Chavez even. The title The Marvels doesn't mean Carol Danvers is no longer the lead of this film. I mean, "Marvel" is half of her superhero moniker. It really shows the influence that Captain Marvel has on Kamala Khan who has called herself Ms Marvel to honor her hero, Captain Marvel, and on her best friend's daughter, Monica Rambeau, who will become Spectrum, Photon, or might even take the name Blue Marvel. Captain America had his buddies in Falcon and Winter Soldier, now Captain Marvel has hers. Carol Danvers will still be the emotional lead of her sequel movie. Nobody said "anchor of the MCU." Kevin Feige said Captain Marvel "will take the lead and be at the forefront of the entire MCU." His words. I just repeat it. You guys should really get over your hate of Captain Marvel. First, get over the fear of her becoming a leader in the MCU. It's okay. Because fear then leads to hate. Hate leads to the Dark Side. Many of you are there already. Try coming back to the light. You'll enjoy life more.
  3. Well if any theater decides they want to do shoulder to shoulder seating (as in strangers not family), I won't be going to that theater. I'll only go to a theater that's practicing some kind of social distance seating. But I believe all of the major theaters are doing that as corporate policy and will continue that for a while.
  4. We're five months into vaccines being available to the public. This week, the vaccine will be available to everyone including teenagers nationwide. By July the percent of Americans fully vaccinated should significantly rise. For the people who refuse to wear masks or get their vaccine by then, they can choke on the virus for all I care.
  5. I believe in the new ventilation systems the movie theaters have installed. Social distancing and mask wearing is still theater policy at all of them. I'm fully vaccinated as well as a lot of friends/family. There have been no significant COVID19 outbreaks from folks going to see Kong Godzilla, which gave the industry a shot of life support. When I go see Black Widow in July with my mask on, I will feel perfectly safe.
  6. I'm not even thinking about Disney's profitability or bottom line. I'm completely 100% talking about the movie theater industry, AMC, Cinemark, Loews, etc. It's not even about a specific number. It's about breaking the habit of staying home out of fear you can catch COVID19 by going to the movies. I think Black Widow will get enough Americans in movie theaters this July to finally break the habit of a significant amount of American moviegoers. There are a lot of people like me who have their calendars marked that the weekend Black Widow comes marks the day they go back to the movies.
  7. It must get enough people in US theater seats over multiple weekends to break America’s pandemic habit of not going to the movies and feel it really is okay to come back and create a chain reaction that keeps moviegoers permanently coming back to theaters at levels about 60-70% what they were before pandemic which should be enough to save the movie theater industry this summer. The box office take is just the obvious result of this. I said 550 million worldwide total would be enough.
  8. I'm not hinting that it's not Carol Danvers official Marvel superhero name. Obviously it is. But at the time of her first movie, it seemed TO ME to be more for official copyright purposes, because in the movie's story, Captain Marvel is actually Annette Bening's Mar Vell. It's only at the end does Nick Fury call the deceased Kree scientist Marvel instead of Mar Vell. As you said, Carol never takes the name of her Kree mentor in the movie. And In the MCU's continuing story, we don't know when Carol takes on the name. Obviously she does as Peter Parker and Agent Woo refer to her as that. But yes, I know Carol's superhero name is supposed to be Captain Marvel. I would like to finally see in this sequel where she acknowledges the name, though, because she hasn't yet. Even in Endgame, she's only referred to as Carol or Danvers.
  9. Captain Marvel and the Marvelettes would be kinda nice if not a little disrespectul to Carol's co-stars. I've seen some articles call the movie Captain Marvel 2: The Marvels, but that has too many Marvels in it, not to mention the Marvel Studios logo that will be above it. I like The Marvels. I wasn't expecting it, but I like it.
  10. Actually more like calling an Iron Man film "Iron." Kind of like Ironheart is to Iron Man as Ms. Marvel is to Captain Marvel. "Marvel" and "Iron" are the key words in both titles. And really if you want to get technical, Carol Danvers has never once called herself Captain Marvel in the movies. It wasn't like Tony Stark calling himself Iron Man in his first movie or the US government creating Captain America for Steve Rogers. The first and only time we heard it before WandaVision was when Peter utters it once in Far From Home. Carol Danvers is just getting started in the MCU. Really it was in WandaVision where a government official, James Woo, referred to her as Captain Marvel. Yes, I like her, love her really, but my saying she's going to be at the forefront of the MCU isn't just my wishful thinking. Keven Feige said that specifically. And if you look at the overall direction of MCU heroes and who's left and their relations to one another and the different Phase Four MCU projects, the signs point to Captain Marvel being the leader of the next Avengers team, which is what is part of "being at the forefront." In the future, when kids buy the new Avengers backpacks and lunchboxes, Captain Marvel will most likely be at the forefront of that image.
  11. To folks who think the new name of Captain Marvel's sequel, The Marvels, is somehow disrespectful to Brie Larson's superhero, here's my answer to that. Carol Danvers' superhero name, Marvel, is still in the title. And the new title, The Marvels, is great and honors the Captain Marvel legacy(both in the MCU and the comics). In the MCU, it immediately shows the inspiration/effect that not only Carol Danvers has on the other two budding heroes in the film, Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau, but also I think acknowledges the inspiration of Anette Bening's Mar Vell. Putting an immediate superhero family around Carol Danvers also really gives her the supporting cast the character really needs and which hasn't been that established in the comics. Captain America had Falcon and Winter Soldier. Iron Man had War Machine and will have Ironheart. Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel now has her own little superhero family. I am sure, though, that Kamala and Monica will be more autonomous and less reliant on their matriarch hero in comparison to Falcon or War Machine whose characters served only to serve the adventures of Cap or Iron Man.But make no mistake, Carol Danvers will still be the figure head of Marvel's Marvel Family, much like Shazam was the head of his own Marvel Family over in Fawcett/DC.
  12. The CDC has said that the reason mutations are forming is because people aren't getting vaccinated. When the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID19) is allowed to exist and spread over time, that's when it starts to mutate. If you stop its spread by wearing a mask and getting the vaccine, then it doesn't have time to mutate. Also, the CDC has stated that the many vaccines have proven effective against the mutations of the original 2019 coronavirus. The common cold is really just a name for symptoms caused by many different virus types. The most common virus type that causes cold symptoms is the rhinovirus. Coronaviruses were only first discovered and observed in the 60's.
  13. ???? 300 million is a lot for a movie even before the pandemic. Infinity War only opened with like 250 million.
  14. But Carol Danvers' superhero name, Marvel, is still in the title. And I think the new title The Marvels is great. It immediately shows the inspiration/effect that not only Carol Danvers has on the other two budding heroes in the film, Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau, but also I think acknowledges the inspiration of Anette Bening's Mar Vell.
  15. What I've argued is that Carol Danvers will be the next leader of the Avengers and at the forefront of the MCU of the future. Most of Phase Four seems to be about the building blocks of the next era of heroes or established heroes in their next phase of powering up, like Wanda or Sam Wilson.
  16. How can I be incorrect if it hasn’t happened yet? I’m not sure if I said anything about the face of the MCU as I’m not sure what that means, but I still say Carol Danvers will be at the forefront of the MCU. The facts: Carol Danvers was referenced in almost every episode of WandaVision which guest starred one of her supporting characters. Carol Danvers’ best friend is the founder of the MCU’s new SHIELD, SWORD. Carol Danvers has two major Disney+ shows, Ms Marvel and Secret Invasion, which are tying in directly with her sequel film. No other major MCU character has as much current tie-in around her character. Spider-Man has no tie-ins. And, oh yeah, Kevin Feige himself said Carol Danvers will be at the forefront of the MCU. How is The Marvels film and the Sony streaming deal indicative that Carol Danvers won’t be at the forefront of the MCU of the future? Her sequel will be a team-up movie, but all the MCU films are team-up movies. That’s the model. Multiverse of Madness will be a team-up of Strange, Wanda, Jericho Drumm, Clea and whoever else. And as for rumors, a major rumor is that the next big Avengers villain Korvac may debut in The Marvels. Seems like a lot of stuff is centered around Captain The Name of Our Studio and Comic Book Company.
  17. Ah. I see. Black Widow will blow that 160m estimate out of the water.
  18. Well if the very large segment of our population that still think the pandemic is a hoax would do their friggin part and get the vaccine and wear a mask we’d have been done with this pandemic last month.
  19. A news article just said July 28, 2023 is the confirmed date of an unknown MCU film and is most likely the release date of Fantastic Four, as it's the next after GOTG 3's May 5th release.
  20. Agree. Jack Kirby wasn't the best storyteller. Sometimes I could tell Kirby was being intentionally tongue-in-cheek with his 70's Marvel stories but other times it seemed unintentionally comical. And sometimes a bit too far out there for the more realistic direction comics started taking in the 70's.
