A real gut punch, that is. Hope it's located for you!

Thanks. Yes it is. I've had this comic since the 80's and had it signed by Stan in the early 90's, and it's been one of the main crown jewels in my collection, so to have this happen has been distressing to say the least. And to add insult to injury CBCS is trying to lowball me on reimbursement by offering me only $1000. I asked the guy (a guy named "Chase") how they arrived at that amount, and he told me "fair market value". I was in front of my computer so when he said that I looked up ended listings of FF 48 on Ebay, and even low-grade unsigned copies were selling for more than that. When I quoted the prices to him Chase says "well yeah but those are CGC graded, CGC graded books sell for more" LOL. I could not F'ing believe it. But turns out they "lost" a bunch of books, not just mine, and they're doing this lowball offer thing to everyone. And they're wanting us to sign a waiver agreeing to relinquish our ownership of our books. So basically if you sign the waiver and except the meager payment, and they suddenly "find" your book(s), they are now legally the owners and can do whatever they want with them, i.e; sell them with a big profit margin. The whole affair reeks of a scam. So yeah, as if losing a valued item that means a lot to you isn't bad enough....

  2. Couple things up front...I'm posting a CBCS related topic here because I'm posting this in as many comics related forums as I can as it involves a lost/stolen book that I'm hoping to recover. And, the reason I sent it to CBCS for grading instead of CGC is because it was a signed book and I wanted the autograph authentication CBCS offers. If it weren't a signed book I would have submitted it to CGC :)

I submitted a VF Fantastic Four 48 signed by Stan Lee to CBCS last month in person at SDCC. Yesterday I got a call from someone named "Chance" at CBCS informing me it was "lost". He only offered vague details on how it became "lost". Something about how a box of SDCC submissions went missing in shipping, but was vague when I asked for details.

Anyway, I'd like to ask for help here. I'm attaching a picture of Stan's signature on the book. It's on page 1 (not the cover) and it's a very distinctive signature. I had this book signed personally and asked Stan to sign it "Stan 'The Man' Lee" which he did. This is something you rarely (if ever) see and makes this particular book unique and easy to spot. If anyone should happen to see this book up for sale anywhere, or if you're a dealer and someone contacts you wanting to sell it, would you mind emailing me at: oatwilly@gmail.com Thank you!

  3. Yeah, I hate to begrudge these creators for trying to make $ and as much of it as they can, but it's just so ridiculous with the pricing. Way worse than the 90's with the gimicky chase covers. Then there's the whole store variant covers thing where you have to buy the trade dress version if you want the virgin version because they're only selling them in sets priced at $50-70. But that's a whole other topic

  4. The most curious thing is happening now with publishers that sell their comics mainly on Kickstarter. They price the 'standard' version of the comic at around $30, which is crazy enough. $30 for a $4 or $5 comic. But then they have a bajillion alternates selling anywhere from $50 to over $100 for a 'metal' or foil cover variant. Or a 'nude' cover, which you can't even just buy normally if you want it...it comes in a set of 2 with the non-nude version, for like $75-$100 lol. Or you have to buy the 'mega-lot' of like 7 books to get the one 'mega-lot' exclusive limited to just that lot.

How long will the market sustain this BS? It has to collapse at some point right?

  5. I'm selling a "4-Day + Preview Night Pass" if anyone's interested. I wasn't able to score a pass this year through the regular sale, so I had to buy through one of their official Ebay auctions. Thing is, they're not selling singles on Ebay this year, just sets of two, and I only needed one, so I have one extra. I'm asking $1200 which is a little less than half what I paid for the pair. With tax the pair came to a little over $2400.

I know that's pricey, but I'm not looking to make $ on the sale, just to recoup what I paid for that 2nd ticket. If you feel the $1200 is too much, feel free to make an offer. I'm looking to sell it by Monday 6/26 which is apparently the deadline to redeem the code, so I will take offers until then and the highest offer gets it. Of course, if anyone wants to pay the $1200, that will end the offer taking and it's yours on the spot.

Here's how it will work: SDCC sent me 2 codes which are redeemable for the passes on their website. I've already redeemed 1 for myself. The 2nd has not yet been redeemed. Once I've received your payment I will send you the un-redeemed code. You will then use the code at the SDCC website to redeem your pass. The pass will be in YOUR name. Also, they will not be mailing your pass, you must pick it up onsite. After going through the checkout procedure on their site they will be emailing you a badge confirmation which you will need to bring along with your ID to the badge pickup located in the flag pavilion at the convention center. I will also provide you with my phone number and will be available to you in any way I can to help you in the event that your obtaining of the pass doesn't go as smoothly as it should.

PM me if interested. Payment will be expected via Paypal.

Thanks, and feel free to PM me with any questions!

  7. People are saying the Cyblade/Shi Preview book is the 1st Witchblade appearance. Can anyone tell me if she appears in the 'story pages' of that book, or just in pin-ups? The CGC label says pin-ups but just wanted to confirm. She is in the story pages of the regular Cyblade/Shi issue. Wondering if the preview features those pages

It's double bagged so it's really not a big deal to cut the tape and discard the bag. I actually prefer this to having the books bang around freely.

it's the tape at the spine that bothers me. Too easy to cause a crink there, and you have to be super-careful cutting it loose. You pretty much need a razor or exacto and the deft of a surgeon lol. Scissors are too dicey. Just don't do it. Sellers...if you must tape it down, do it anywhere BUT the spine side please. Overpackaging to the point where it's hard not to damage an item trying to remove it can be as or almost as bad as under-packaging

ASM800's from SDCC came back, a little Christmas present to me, from me.  :roflmao:

I think time has dulled the sting of the "CGC Tax", and the grades don't hurt either (four 9.6's and five 9.8's).  I'm not as bothered by the 9.6's as some other collectors might be simply because I was expecting 9.4's because the issue was so thick that the cover stock was so poor on a lot of the regular copies found on store shelves.  Still, these are likely the last (and only) JSC books I'll buy signed and subbed to CGC.  That said, I do love his MJ and Gwen.  Say what you will about how his female faces all look the same, these two particular covers capture the differences between the two main loves in Peter's life so well.  MJ the fashionable and playful one.  Gwen always the more book warmish one.

How are these 9.8 or even 9.6 with those torn corners??

There is a level of insanity, (of which I will not be participating), when the hype over the appearance of a characters 'schlong', causes some sort collectible fervor.

I disagree. I feel this is an important event, and am looking forward to this issue being knocked down a peg with first appearance of Batman's 'erect' johnson
