  1. I did notice the whiter whites on the 9.0...so the cleaning helped.
  2. I've heard a book with a subscription crease (and I've got a mess of them in my collection) can be no higher than a 6.0. Also, IMO a subscription crease is a clean fold dead centre of the comic. A pocket crease not so much. Also, if the comic was creased to put in a pocket, it's quite possible the crease could be crooked and for sure, the rest of the comic would/should have a lot more damage from being placed in a pocket. So the difference should be quite noticeable.
  3. Okay, so to be clear if the ticks are minor, it's possible for CGC to grade it a 9.6 and all is based on severity. Sure, I can live with that. If anyone else has anything further, I'd be very interested in hearing from you.
  4. Because I'm rebagging and grading my collection, I'm having a real issue with grading my near perfect 9.8's with a single spine tick as a 9.4. Why? Apparently in the overstreet grading guide, ticks are not allowed in a 9.6. To those of you who know and have experienced this with CGC, do I have a legitimate concern here or...would CGC grade an other wise near perfect 9.8 with a single spine tick as a 9.6? And the 2nd reason I don't like it....I have on occasion seen (like many of you have) CGC 9.8's with a spine tick. Any information would be most welcome as I'm worried, I may have been mis-grading some of my 9.4's/9.6's.
  5. Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. It's got a lot going for it as very little in over-all wear and tear...just kind of dull because of the accumulation of "stuff" on the surface. (Sorry, didn't want to say dirt) The potential is there for a very nice copy,.
  6. IMO remove the extra staples. I'm thinking the 4 holes that remain may not effect the grade of whatever you have left after you do it. It would also make the comic readable.
  7. ...I find out I have a perfect key buried in a pile of books worth uber dollars in 9.8, and after closer inspection what I thought was my perfect book with absolutely no ticks on the spine, has a 1/8" tear along the bottom edge. Sentry #1... purchased at a great price on the forum...before it got hot. i know we've all got gripes and frustrations...and here's your chance to share your bad experiences. Care to vent?
  8. Admittedly, if I do have a hot comic to report, I often have to look up the years to try and figure out if it's modern, copper or covid. Even after I look it up, I still get it wrong. It's embarrassing because we're all supposed to know better.
  9. I was thinking about a Turok movie the other day as well and thought well maybe, it might be kind of tricky to do. Are the masses ready for dinosaurs that can be killed with an arrow and also dinosaurs existing with the various different tribes Turok encounters. Now, they got away with it in 1,000,000 years BC 45 odd years ago, but it was a simpler time and well, there was Raquel Welch in that prehistoric Baywatch uniform.
  10. Not everyone here concerns themselves with the FMV (Fare Market Value) Go Collect offers on their sight, but I did take the time to look it up. Currently, the #5 issue is worth $825.00 and the #14 sits at $2250.00. So based on that and that alone, to me anyway, it's not a good deal. But, hey...it's just an opinion. Weigh that against what the others say if they want to chime in.
  11. Because I most recently learned how to do this...here's my copy. Restored goodness.
  12. Let's pretend you asked me this back in 1979. Based on my own personal experience, I would advise to buy new off the shelf only before any of the comics go up in value. Concentrate on comics that introduce new characters...especially on comics that don't sell a lot of copies. Buy multiples. Buy Marvel only and stay away from DC. If they start printing comics based on a movie like Star Wars, something that looks like it might have staying power over several decades, buy lots. After you buy them. bag and board them right away and store them horizontally. Also, ignore anyone that says the hobby is on it's last legs as they've been saying that for over 40 years. Then see what you have in 40 years. If history repeats itself again, and you bought enough copies, you will have a $1,000,000.00 collection. But remember, that last sentence started with "If".
  13. Still here as well. Anyone remember Bugaboo? Hilarious stuff if you didn't take him too seriously. Then there was the time when we had an actual writer, do a story with all us members in it.
  14. When I read your description of what was available, it reminded me of a bunch of books I constantly see on e-bay selling for way under guide...many would have to be grouped just to justify the shipping charges tacked onto the sell price. Good collection if you want fillers for runs you may want to complete down the road.
  15. I regret selling: 2 Hulk 181's 1 Hulk 180 1 (9.6) Giant Size X-men 1 1 (9.4) Captain America 100 I regret not buying: 10 copies of Star Wars 107 off the shelf at 20% off cover price 1 copy of Amazing Spiderman 298 on a Seven Eleven spinner wrack after being attracted by the cover But, you have to happy with your winners. No matter how well you do/did...you will always have some regrets.
  16. I am happy with what I've got. Been collecting since the late 70's/early 80's and have accumulated over 18,000 comics happily investing in runs and also multiples of a lot of 80's stuff when new like Star Wars, Moon Knight, X-Men and Micronauts (the first issue #1 a lot of people consider a Whitman variant) etc. etc. I have always been a "run" collector for the most part and from what I've heard, there's not a lot of these types of collections out there anymore. (Just something I read in an Overstreet market report by one of the contributors...have no idea if that's true or not). I have no desire to add to the collection and currently take a lot of joy when one of the issues I purchased decades ago all of a sudden get hot. Most recently, New Titans Annual #2. I have too often suffered from seller's remorse when selling, so am happy just sitting with what I have.
  17. Yeah, and that hole at the top would be something a normal person wouldn't notice without an electron microscope.
  18. I'm suspecting grades are going to be all over the place on this one. I'll go in at 9.2.
  19. Me too...I hate handling perfect books. Leave them alone on the shelf and they don't get damaged...but they sure look great.
  20. Boy would I like to read about everything this comic's gone through in the last 70 odd years. There's a story here and I think I have a great idea for the next Marvel movie. Also not sure if it would be a good press candidate. A lot of what's wrong won't be fixed with a press. But, it is complete and I'm also thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of .5 Thanks for posting it. Are you able to let us know where you got it? I'd settle for that.
