Giant Size X-Men #1 and/or X-Men 94 Club
davebo357 replied to HeroX's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
I guess I'm still relatively of new to grading, but what's the incentive to crack open the XMen94? Is it the negative association of anything with the Restored color tag despite the high rating, or a general preference for unslabbed comics? I mean once it's restored it can never be re-graded as not restored, but it'd still have more value with the grading than being unslabbed unless you just didn't disclose the restoration when selling it, right? -

As someone with a bunch of Kenner Star Wars figs but none on the cards, that's very much my jam. Not so much the box labelled spiders though, my wife would hate that.

I'd love to get that Jim Lee X-Men box, but I only see it on ebay for $180, so that's a no. The place I normally get my boxes hasn't had anything new or old in stock since covid came along, but here's my rack as it is now.

I got nothing for you. Once we fell hard into Lego last year my comic room just got mobbed. I got all new camera gear for work and wanted to take new photos for the thread but it's been a mess for ages now. Shameful. Edit: oh I just meant boxes in general. If you meant comic boxes just keep getting more shelving.

... buy more comics?

I'd really love to know more about how you made this. I can't tell from this photos, is this actually hanging on the drywall, sticking out, or did you cut a hole and it's recessed into the wall? Is there a front cover I'm just not seeing a reflection on, or is it open? If there's a cover, is the border on the cover and the whole thing swings open to access the interior? I used to like the acrylic case I got for my Kenner SW's in addition to all my scenes on shelves, but now I realize it's cramped and unoriginal and I need to tear my walls up to make something like this!

I hope there's a Samurai Santa #1 on display here in December.

Yeah I'm totally here for the Groo love, he's what got me into comics as a kid and I still love them. Also the fact that you're swapping them out so often means even with limited space you're probably enjoying your comic collection more than 99% of us. Kudos grendelbo, from one bo to another.

Giant Size X-Men #1 and/or X-Men 94 Club

Is that "3-25" actually written on the cover? How much of the score deduction does that account for? -

I really can't say whether CGC would get you a higher grade with a pressing or without, but personally I'd have it regraded just for the consistency with the rest of my collection. Only CBCS I have is a Wolverine #1 witnessed sign by Claremont and Rubinstein. If only witnessed signings were transferable between the companies I'd love to regrade it with that CGC Wolverine graphic. -

Thanks for mentioning slab-pro. Seems like an interesting product although I'm not interested in that one myself, but I found they do invisible hard plastic backing boards so you can see the rear cover of bagged comics, kind of just like a top-loader but fits in a bag so doesn't take any more space than everything else in your comic boxes. A neat idea but the amazon store page lists all their products then the product pages seem empty. They ought to look into that.

Looks a lot like the Ikea MOSSLANDA shelving. https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/mosslanda-picture-ledge-white-40291766/

Aside from the centering this looks pretty decent. Is the back cover hugely deformed or do you have any way of knowing what's wrong with the inside to warrant a 2.5? -

I'd agree that the safe deposit box is the most secure option, but I'd still want a low grade copy with a nice presenting cover to keep around the house to look at. Of course, the only comic I have that's approaching being worth putting in a bank would be X-Men #1, and that's already low enough that I wouldn't want to look at anything lower. At that point I'd have to just display the Marvel Milestone Edition reprint. -

I regret buying two copies of X94... but only at 7.0, because Wolverine isn't on the cover. Shoulda sprung for a 9, ah well.
